This video does a great job highlighting what made him so special. Beneath the recklessness lied arguably of the most skilled fighters ever. Shame we never got to see his ceiling.

I don’t like how many times you said the word “true” and also I don’t like how you get to define what a “true martial artist” is.
I think it’s pretty clear that a true martial artist are guys like GSP, DJ, Anderson Silva. Champions of there sport and arguably masters at there crafts. They all got to where they were from discipline and hard work.
Why would you think a “true martial artist” would ever quit fighting because they “don’t feel like doing it anymore” that’s literally most journeymen in any profession or sport…
he's a true martial artist. He didn't do it for a championship, or fans. He did it to do it and when he didn't feel like doing it, he just left out of pure acceptance and contentment. I think people forget what a true martial artist is truly about.

He literally got a disease, which he had to get a surgery for. And this surgery has 50/50 in retire you from sports. Which is the reason he stopped.
He had a lung disease to be more specific.
Its not like he just quit because he didnt wanna do it anymore.
The reason he wanted to become a doctor was because he was influenced by the doctors helping him out, so he wanted to help others out.
But there is a chance he comes back now, because he said recently that he feels better now after the surgery. We just dont know if he will be able to perform like he did before he got the surgery.
This is why, one should not talk about subjects you are uneducated in. You make it seem like he just quit out of the blue, which is not TRUE

Spot on he retired as a true martial artist. Yes it was partly due to illness however he did sau in a recent interview that UFC promised him a title fight over years and they didn't deliver so he leftunder his own free will he even said he may come back in a few years time, I hope so!
Man, it is very sad that he stopped fighting. Zabit is one of the greatest talents I had ever seen. Watching him fighting is amazing.

One of the fighters who could do it all, and my favorite of all time. Will never forget watching his debut against Santiago in Rotterdam, it was spectacular. Great clip and breakdown.

Zabit and Anklaev has similar personality, respectful. Zabit got out from UFC becuase he realized that its becoming WWE! Anklaev just realized that too.
He retired because he couldn't get a fight, noone wanted to fight him. His flashy style is perfect for this new wwe UFC, he would have got hella promotion.

Man, Zabit is such a beautiful human being. His performances were works of art but I'm happy for him that he stopped competing professionally. The business of fighting is a dirty one and can't really wish it on anyone.

He looks gassed bc he gives it his all, utiliizes like 100 different moves a fight, from spinning heel kicks to suplexes takedowns and straight brawling on the feet . If he wanted to preserve the tank he could but he CHOOSES to empty it, for the art, for the fans...dudes is a legend and khabib will soon sign him hopefully

He had a lung disease which is essentially why he retired, because the surgery he had to go under is a 50/50 retirement chance.

What promise was that you were talking about (that UFC did not follow through with)?

The diaphragm spasms forced him to hold his breath while striking, this is the reason he would gas quite quickly.
He might come back now also as he is feeling better after the surgery. He posted some videos of him hitting pads and saying he was feeling better so..

Noone wanted to fight him so he retired. It's a shame if he would have been patient he would have fit in perfectly with the Dagestan takeover happening in the UFC right now.

I don't know it's true or not but after Khabib tried to persuade him to come back Zabit's brother posted about his come back so it could be true that we will see him in octagon again.
Some people talk about MMA fighters not being able to street fight which is totally true because it's completely different but I feel like Zabit would beat the absolute shit out of just about anyone in a street fight

I really want to agree, but he fought at around 65kg, that is very low. I think weight makes such a big factor when fighing that he would have trouble with any 90+kg man with minimal wrestling training.

Legend? He barely got to do anything, made wild excuses, retired before he could make top 10, now he wants to return. He has potential to be great, anyone can see he has skill, but he needs to train more and hone his skills, be more disciplined, and work his accuracy. Maybe train on the ground as well. Hope his return is grand and dominant, but as of right now he doesn't deserve a legend status.

Quit because of medical issues and the UFC not giving him a title shot (apparently they said they would). He's now becoming a doctor
