However, Everyone else’s comments and the police giving chase assumed this driver to be privileged with the task of taking down the carjackers and, really, the truck driver was one of the cops themselves. That’s pretty ironic. An outcome nearly opposite of what people expected.

And most of those accidents probably happen because other drivers don't know that a truck can't just come to a stop after a few meters. I really don't want to know how many drivers cut off a truck without even knowing they did something very stupid.

Truckers help the police more than people know. When I drove long haul, I had the pleasure of seeing a "rolling road block" as 3 truckers coordinated to box in a drunk driver. They just took up positions, one in front of the car and one on each side and boxed him in. Then they gradually slowed down until they had him stopped. The state trooper took it from there.
There have also been instances where truckers have stopped kidnappings and disrupted human trafficking. Truckers also serve as the eyes and ears when an Amber Alert goes out.

@@Gs35379 No shit the suspect made it dangerous for civilians. Asking a random trucker to erratically swerve his 80,000 pound truck all over the highway makes it even more dangerous. Cops should be relying on other cops to do their job, not civilians. This is not a difficult concept. Also, there are plenty of other ways to catch a suspect that don't involve escalating to high-speed chases, which often cause unnecessary collateral damage and loss of life.
