- Footage shot in 1991 at the Amerasian Center in Saigon. Some footage was used in the soon to be rereleased "from Hollywood to HAnoi" by Tiana Alexandra. Watching this honestly breaks my heart, especially since my mom’s been in the same situation. I’m so blessed and fortunate and just thankful for the life I have right now due to my mom’s struggle being mixed during that time and making a living in America and meeting my dad. My heart goes out to these other Amerasians 😢❤️
I felt so bad of this lady’s interviewer attacking verbally to the poor Amerasian kids that I have a need to find out who’s the horrible rude person is? ruclips.net/video/UcQUiSHUGAk/видео.html @2:51 I saw Tiana Alexandra interviews another Amerasian kid, from the tone, the way of using sentences, the rude manner and the vocal made me believed that was the same person of interviewer in this video, also in search of her work I found that she also had interviewed almost all of the high seated of power communist leaders in Vietnam including Ngo Duc Tho , Pham Van Dong, Vo Nguyen Giap…used to be the enemy of U.S.A. according Wikipedia and Tiana recently made a film a/b General Giap:” General & Me”, with those actions showed Tiana’s clearly a communist sympathizer a real commie, I can see HATE in her voice, her tone, and discrimination in her expression, so sad. Base on her Vietnamese speaking without the accent I believe she’s an immigrant to the U.S.A. and that she’s being hypocrites and discriminates toward the poor Amerisan kids who were borne by not the fault of themselves or being orphanage by choices. I would like to hear all of your comments a/b this rude and terrible manner which not usually found in traditional Vietnamese family non-communist.
The interviewer lady is heartless. She is so rude and thoughtless for asking questions that makes no sense. These are human beings who are looking to find a better life and because they are Amerasian, they are considered middle class. I remembered how the mixed kids are treated and made fun of when I was in Vietnam 38 years ago. I hope they find happiness in America. God bless them all.
They're definitely not considered middle-class. I think you meant second-class. As in, discarded from mainstream Vietnamese society.

I'm speechless with the reporter, she is horrible. The way she conducts the interview with the children just like she is questioning criminals. Very unprofessional.
exactly, The interviewer needs to go back to school to learn to be professional journalist. What kind of attitudes is that??? Her job is to conduct an useful interview so these kids could get help. She's rude & unprofessional toward these unfortunate kids. She asking all the rude, & unnecessary questions...

Định mệnh đã quá tàn nhẫn với dân tộc Việt này. Chiến tranh đã trôi qua nhưng tại sao lòng thù ghét lại còn mãi. Dân tộc này cần nhiều hơn nữa sự bao dung và yêu thương lẫn nhau. Hôm nay xem clip này mà mình ứa nước mắt, phải buồn bã và cô đơn nhường nào họ mới quyết định rời bỏ khỏi nơi sinh thành nên mình.
Yến Đặng Phi nếu là thời bh thì lại chuộng tây thích ngoại . Lai tây thì lại càng tốt , nhưng thời kỳ đó , những người này bị phân biệt đối xử . Nhưng cũng phải hiểu là nguyên nhân cũng bởi vừa chiến tranh với mỹ xong . Vốn dĩ dân quân ta đã ghét sẵn Mỹ . Lại thêm bị nó cấm vận nữa . I was in the army in vietnam 1967 got out went back as a contractor 1968 met me wife in 1969 I brought her and my four children back to california my wife children and grandkids are beautiful I feel so bad for these amerasian kids it's obvious they all should come here no questions asked
To chuck cuttress: You are one of the few that actually cared. A lot of military men don't give a damn what would happen if they left children there. And maybe most had wives in the U.S.A. already. But still not an excuse to abandon their own flesh & blood.
When I was young, I looked like Amerasian, I had white skin, blond hair and straight nose. I also was bullied by other children. I felt hurt and ashamed. Now I wish I were a real Amerasian because most of Amerasians are good-looking and smart. They are so lucky to live in the US, their father's wonderful land.
Those kids are only victims of war. We should love and embrace them. They all deserve a better future.

The female interviewer is heartless. Poor the kids and definately they are having a much better life now.
Having been born and raised in Vietnam and having an AmerAsian cousin, I can tell you that they weren't treated the same by many (not all, but many). They were often treated like a 2nd class citizen (and that is a bit of an understatement). They all should have the right to come to the US to find their fathers and families because they were left behind and have no opportunities there.
For those who don't understand Vietnamese, the interviewer (lady) was extremely rude and disrespectful. Note to the director, do not hire that lady in any of your work because nobody should be treated that way (especially when your work focuses on AmerAsian and she treated them like dirt).
Not American's problem to solve. That's for Vietnamese to accept them.

Why don't you give their fathers citizenship and allow them to live in Vietnam? Or better yet let the AmerAsians choose? Why does Vietnam have to be some weird ethnostate, why can't they accept their fellow citizens?
I identified with the kid@ 5:50. My birth mother also left with her American's husband/boyfriend/Whatever and I was left behind with her family. Unfortunately, the boy in the video didn't have a grandmother to care for him like I did. Beside the people who loved me, I faced a similar fate as all of those Ameriasian. We were mistreated, discriminated, and was not allowed to get an education. My grandmother shaved my hair, made me look almost like other kids, and no matter what she did...my skin, my appearance couldn't hide who I really am...a half white kid...a reminder of their energy.
Vietnamese people often called themselves kind, generous, blah, blah, blah...they forgot that we were also part of them too. Its really interesting to see how the conversation changed now since some of us Amerasian kids actually turned out all right.
As for the interviewer, I hope she is ashamed of herself for being unprofessional and just ignorant . She said, [translation from Vietnamese] "...but Amerasian is known for lying...are you sure you are an orphanage?" Really!!!! Look at these kids, they were trying to get out of the country because they have no place to live, no one to care for them...where is your compassion? During the time of the ODP program, many of these kids became a commodity overnight. They were being sold and kidnapped so that people can have a free ticket to America.
My mom's family didn't want to leave Vietnam with me. I was accompanied by a 17 year old aunt. We left, I was united with my birthmother in this beautiful land, and California of course! I didn't care to find my real dad. For all I knew he could be one of those sad Veterans standing at the street lights with a sign...This part of history is not forgotten, many of us Amerasian are working toward an awareness, a sense of forgiveness must have to occur so we can move on to do better things. I don't hate the Vietnamese but I don't like them much. I'm an American. I live here, not Vietnam. I hope and pray for all of those Ameriasian brothers and sisters who are still struggling to survive and to get out of Viet nam.

I remember that when I was in The Australian Regular Army from 1987 - 1995. I recall that when I was In 1RAR in Townsville we heard alot about various military victories , but nothing at all was mentioned about babies being left behind.

As a child of war, she emigrated to the USA with her family as a consequence of the Vietnam War. Her father was director of press for South Viet Nam. I think the goverments should come up with a DNA program so these kids which are grown now can have a DNA test done and try to match with the the men who want to try and find out if they have a child over there. I think all kids should know who their parents are.

Can someone translate what the interviewer was asking them? Unfortunetely I don't know much vietnamese.
She mostly asked them about why they want to move to America and if they could speak English, to which all of them replied no. Some of them mentioned about discrimination, how everyday people would just stop them out of nowhere and beat them up, they said they want to move to America because they don't want to live another day having listen to racial insults and violence.
People here seem to be talking about how much of a "bitch" she is in the video. There weren't one specific thing that she asked them that seems blatantly offensive but her overall tone seems very condescending to the poor childrens
The interviewer ask some stupid question like what wrong with Vietnam why do you want to go to America? Have you been to America know what is like? It cold over there with many poor people and homeless people begging in the street. I was like what the hell? That bitch must of work for the government. I hope those mixed people able to come here in the US

She keeps asking whether the kids are lying or telling the truth, whether they are really orphans or not. That is a disturbing thing to ask considering all of them have been through a lot, suffering from mental/physical illnesses and discrimination.

Clip đăng lâu rồi mà bây giờ mới vô tình xem được. Xem mà muốn nghẹn ngào. Thật tội cho các anh chị này hồi đó. 1991 thì bây giờ chắc đã bốn mấy 50 hết rồi. Mà không ngờ bậc cha mẹ ngày xưa lại không dạy con cái tôn trọng người khác dù họ có là ai. Để cho những thanh thiếu niên này phải mong đi Mỹ cho được vì thấy bị xã hội ruồng bỏ. Mồ côi đã khổ mà không được những người xung quanh thương quý nữa thì chịu sao nổi. Còn về bà phỏng vấn này thì quá vô văn hóa. Dùng ngôn ngữ đả kích và thiếu tôn trọng người khác. Dù bây giờ không biết các anh chị này ra sao rồi, đã đi được theo ước nguyện hay vẫn còn ở Việt Nam nhưng cầu mong sao họ tìm được cha mẹ hoặc ít ra cũng có cuộc sống yên bình và hạnh phúc như những người khác.
This was a problem in every war, there are people in Germany, Japan, Vietnam, etc... not claimed by anyone, which is sad. But, watch a movie called "Green Eyes" (1977) starring Paul Winfield, it takes you deep into the aftermath of war regarding this issue.

Mình mới tìm hiểu người phỏng vấn là cô Tiana Thanh Nga, đi định cư hồi 5 tuổi nên tiếng Việt của cô ấy thời bấy giờ ngôn từ dùng chưa đúng nhưng cô ấy tốt đấy không như cách cô ấy nói. Cô ấy là nhà làm phim tài liệu, đoạn phim này cũng do cô ấy quay bằng phim nhựa 16mm.
Ra là vậy mà thiệt nghe cô phỏng vấn thấy ứa máu kkk.Bởi phong ba bảo táp không bằng ngữ pháp Việt Nam,nói sai một li là đi một dặm.😂

Bà nào nói chuyện vô duyên dể sợ. Cái tính ăn nói và suy nghỉ của máy người Việt này tháy chướng ghê. Bên Mỹ thì cực, nhưng vấn gấp chăm lần tốt hơn Việt Nam.

This was 1991. I don’t think she knew how to treat people better. Especially her generation was affected by the war directly. There was very little resource invested in her generation.
