Wow. No surprise I cried. I used to cry to that song since I've first heard it - live at Pittsburgh 1974 - but this time the whole thing was just surreal. Third eye opening tears depending on who you ask. Thank you Robert and thank you Ian, Michael, Greg, Peter, Peter, Mel, Gordon, Andy, Ian, Boz, John, David, Jamie, Bill, Richard, Adrian, Tony, Pat, Trey, Gavin, Bill, Jakko and Jeremy. Thanks for existing in this existence of mine, King Crimson.
My absolute favorite KC song. Just a spellbinding journey that goes to so many places, coherently, brilliantly. Amazing performance. Thank you Mr. Fripp for your vision and for bringing me years of enjoyment.
From what I remember, they are currently working on a studio album, no new songs to my knowledge, but rather recording songs from their tours like The Errors (for example)
Song Meaning; " This song is simply about the futility of living. It closed one of the most powerful chapters in progressive rock history and with it closed the most intriguing chapter of King Crimson. The first verse refers to the brightness of adolescent life, of the demure touch of a beautiful sunny day to spark one's imagination, but the verse reveals that a bright and enthusiastic world does not export its beauty to you. All things that world promised you fade to black and you are lifeless in a sunny world. The second verse confirms that sadness will extrapolate over all of your desires and dreams, that your life will retain the emptiness and the lack of meaning over time, the bright disingenuity of younger days will never shine on you again The third verse is the most interesting as it hauntingly describes the poisoning of the soul by which no helping hand or smile could rescind the damage that has been done to you by the world and by time, true hopelessness has ensued. The chorus of the song is a very interesting metaphor. In the most unequivocal sense it means that your skies have become starless for nothing you will see will ever compel you again - and so it entails that you are stained bible black. Whatever spirituality or happy hopes in the world exist that could have placated you are dead and black, but held habitually by time and empty hope. Finally the most important verse of all - the one spoken by Robert Fripp. The monotone squeal of his guitar piece that occupies the next 5 or so minutes after the third verse is like the progression of time from months, to years, to decades. The child who acknowledged the dying of his world has lived a zombie all his life and finally sees the inexorability of his own death in his final hour after an age of emptiness. The last 3 minutes of the song are powerful but the last minute postulated absolute death. It is the most powerful minute in Rock history and probably a contributor to such events like Kurt Cobain committing suicide, Cobain regarded this album 'Red' as the greatest rock album of all time... ...When that last minute hits you, you finally taste the pathos of the character described in the song, because you see that character to be you. You see your own death, and the worthlessness of your own life, it is beautiful, terrifying, and on an implicit level - why most people love this song to death. This song ended a golden age Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this " (i took this songmeaning from the internet, it's not mine ,author unknown ;) )
Just Wow. What a beautiful and powerful performance of one of my very favorite songs. RIP John Wetton, I could almost hear him in that. - Long Live King Crimson!
Que grande Roberto tirando la melodia hipnotica por ultima vez de los pergaminos sagrados sonoros de Crimson, Pat y Tony haciendo el aguante en todo de lujo :) gracias por esta cancion Inmortal hermosa !
Absolutely absolute. Blessed to have bared witness to such greatness in my time. Thank you, thank you, to Robert and all who were King Crimson - a touchstone in music for generations to come.
Спасибо, что делаете записи. На концерт никогда не попасть большинству людей на планете. Но хотя бы так красоту послушать. TOOL не делают концертных записей, а зря.
Absolutely stunning. I am so disappointed that I missed out on seeing them. I am hoping that there is another uk tour in the future but I think I may have missed my chance.
Certainly one of the greatest, if not the greatest, live band of all. Love them or hate them, they are NEVER "boring". Every time I hear a live recording of theirs, I find something new and interesting to listen to. Thanks, guys. You are already missed a whole lot.
Who said Crimson is over? When Robert feels like playing this stuff again, I suspect he'll gang up again. Or not - as he prefers. This is how the band has always been. Certainly he remains in form for music making.
Apply a Neil Peart ethos to RF, and ask if maybe he’s questioning his ability to perform, not at a level expected by his fans, but at a level expected by himself. And season that question with the knowledge that he’s a staunch perfectionist, and will be to his dying day.
Amazing (as usual). My only complaint is that I really wish that Pat would either stop or cut down the length of his "ratchet" solo ! It's so distracting.
I think they all knew that this probably was the last performance as King Crimson. You could see that in the performance. Everyone wanted to leave their mark in some ways, like Pat with his ratchet solo. It sounded a tad longer than his usual ones.
Imho, only Bill Brufford can play this as it should be on the drums. Other drummers fill the place with extravaganza in order to sound twisted but Bill did it with musicality and serving the song without the need to find twisted bars : his mind was spot on for the job.
BEAT it. The vocalist is just bad. Weak voice, no grit. No match for Wetton's OG vocal. This performance sounds like the 'easy listening' version of a once great tune. IMO Belew's absence left a huge hole in KC's sound AND performance energy. This line-up was the zombie version of KC - the band are even dressed like undertakers on their lunch break. A whimper before the silence. Levin looks bored and unanimated - quite unlike his energetic stage presence at the recent BEAT shows. I would have loved to have seen Allan Holdsworth replace Fripp after the RED LP and KC continue through the 70s and take what Bruford and UK achieved to higher places; as I have often felt Fripp was just too staid, angluar, robotic and naturally unmusical to be left holding the reins of such a great foundation of work. He did go on to marry that raging nut job actress 'Toyah' after all.
You could argue the same re Gabriel and Collins but in this instance the singer is dead so why not just enjoy this fabulous music that they so wonderfully keep alive?
The last note of Starless: "The very moment when King Crimson moved from music to silence"
“Moved to silence” a fraction too quickly- possibly deliberately I’m sure… 😉
Everything good ends before we are ready to move on, of course
Its so hard to accept that it is over, as a young fan not having the opportunity to experience KC live is heartbreaking
Oh, man. They played a venue near my house several times, but it was a 21 and over venue. When I turned 21, they retired.
That was a gut punch.
A grand finale for the greatest band of all time
Starless from the Red album has held a very deep place in my heart and mind for 50 years now!

It's great to know that KC is posting more concert videos, especially songs like Starless
My absolute favorite KC song. Just a spellbinding journey that goes to so many places, coherently, brilliantly. Amazing performance. Thank you Mr. Fripp for your vision and for bringing me years of enjoyment.
Music spanning generations. Thank you King Crimson for the trip.
Long live the Seven-Headed Beast! Really wish this lineup could've had a studio album, but alas, this is a perfect way to wrap things up.
