    Our review of this DrinkWell360 Pet Fountain. We review its features, what we like and dislike and what the cats think. The cats enjoy using it and it holds 1 gallon of water. The adjustable flow is great and there isn’t any splashing when the water falls from the spout. We also like how quiet the unit is and it’s very study for our cats. There are no hard water stains or rust marks when using this product. We don’t like the fact that there is so much plastic making it harder to clean. The cost of replacement filters is also high but we have a solution for this. There is also a tendency for dirt to build up at the base of the bowl. Finally, we are going to create another video demonstrating the effort required to cleaning this fountain. All in all, it’s a good product but we are still on the lookout for something better.

    We bought one of these for our cats in 2011. They love it and it's still going strong. We finally had to replace the pump about 5 years in, but that's it.
    Every Sunday morning, we disassemble the whole thing. The stainless bowl and cone go into the dishwasher for a good scalding cleaning. The plastic parts are dumped into a saucepan filled with a 10% bleach solution and soaked for half an hour, then dumped in soapy water, rinse and set to drain.
    We occasionally see the accumulation of food bits, hair, etc. in the bowl after about 4 days, so, every Thursday, we dump the water out, thoroughly rinse and refill, which takes us through with clean water until Sunday.
    We don't use the foam filters around the pump as we were told they are very hard on the pump. We do use the charcoal filters inside the plastic spout mechanism and change those periodically.
    We've never had any build up of dirt or mess around the plastic parts at all. We've also never had a problem with sores or chin acne, which are caused by bacteria. Maybe because of the bleach treatments weekly. ?
    At any rate, I would say we've gotten our money's worth out of this fountain!

    We have had this fountain for about four years now and absolutely love it. There have never been any issues and the pump is still going strong. My husband is extremely attached to our cats and cleans the fountain every Wednesday and Saturday like clockwork. It does take him approximately 15 minutes each time, but it is not really a lot of time when we consider how much of it we waste in other areas. The cats love their fresh water and in the end, that is what it is all about... keeping them safe, healthy and happy. Thank you for the great review!

      Glad to hear and thanks for watching! I clean mine every Saturday morning and it's 15 minutes well spent. After a week of cats dropping in cat food, it gets pretty gross.

    Thanks for this review I was going back and forth on this water fountain and the Pioneer Pet Stainless Steel Big Max Drinking Fountain. Now that you mention the acne I think I will go for the other one. I like love my old raindrop fountain but it only hold 60 oz which was fine for one cat but now I have three. Thanks for your review.

    Thanks. I just purchased this for the same reason, my cats like flowing water from the sink. I do change my water daily as it always ends up getting close to the Min line, plus I want them to have fresh water. I have yet to try and clean the filter. I didn't know what to do with the foam filter, b/c my instructions did not say anything about putting it around the pump. However, I'm assuming that is where it goes. I like how you said your pump has been running for two years....that is good news!

    Thanks for your review. My cat will only drink from a fountain, and the S bend in her old one was impossible to clean thoroughly and I believe was causing her acne. Just set this up and she used it, cautiously, within a few minutes. Hoping it will last as long as yours has.

    Hey, there! Just wanted to thank you for you review, I still think I am going to go with a ceramic model, the smooth surface and fewer angles in the construction appeal more to my desire for less surface area to harbour bacterial growth. We all know that we can clean our pets' dishes, but you can't clean the source of most of the bacteria that come from your pet himself.
    Anyhow, wanted to save you a bit of fuss over the scrubbing. If you have a difficult time with pet hair getting stuck to the moving parts and getting lodged by the "pet slime", have you tried using a vinegar wash or adding baking soda to your dish water to loosen up the gunk at all? I have found that cleaning the plastic parts with a vinegar or bleach wash clears the slime until the next clean and makes it easier to wash. If you have a spray wand, that would help to hose off the loosened saliva.

    I have a very early model DrinkWell, all plastic, that's now about 10 years old. Major complaints - it's a pain in the neck to clean and the charcoal filters are far too expensive. Major complaints remedied - To clean the DrinkWell I keep on hand a plastic waste basket filled with bleach and water 50/50. Every time the fountain's water reservoir needs refilling (maybe every 10 - 14 days) I just disassemble the fountain and immerse the parts in the bleach solution for an hour or two. The impeller motor - I don't immerse that in the bleach, but just pour a little into the opening (where the impeller is inserted) and swab the sides and bottom with a cotton swab. The filters - I alternate the filters so they get a chance to dry out and don't grow algae, using them over and over to catch cat hair and other bits of debris. The charcoal - the charcoal in the filters long ago lost effectiveness, so I made some little pouches out of the toe ends my wife's nylons. I periodically fill them with fresh granules of activated charcoal, tie them off with a length of string, and place them midstream, inside the DrinkWell, in the compartment where the filter is located.

    The one thing i don't like is i find it can be a bit hard to get those 3 black clips on and off when its cleaning time and there is no easy way to make sure the tube from the pump is properly connected to the rest of the unit

    • @CatPause
      @CatPause  7 лет назад

      I'm not sure how to avoid this fountain getting dirty. Most of my dirt is now cat food getting dropped in there. I will try moving it further away from their food bowls to see if that helps.

    • @xSTARR999
      @xSTARR999 5 лет назад

      @@CatPause ...I have read to always keep the food bowl away from the water bowl. I guess this prevents much of the food getting in the water.

    Hello! I don't know if you still use the Drinkwell, or if you use a water fountain at all, but I was wondering if you've tried or heard about the Pioneer Pet Raindrop stainless & ceramic fountains. I'm considering purchasing one and you do such detailed and honest reviews, I figured if you have tried one, I'd love to know your thoughts on it! Thanks!

    Great review, thank you. I actually watched your cleaning video first and then found a few more. I went a similar route as you, 1st the plastic Drinkwell 128oz system and then decided on the stainless steal but have found very similar issues for my cats. They all like it and use it, but the bacteria issues have left all my cats on 2 separate times adding on to a server upper respiratory illnesses (when 1 is sick they all get sick) which was horrendous on many levels ... so have concerns now on what to do (each cat has age/health related issues of one sort or another). Any way, left you a note on the other video also. Any advice would be gladly appreciated. Again, great review.

    WARNING! If you plan on buying this thing - think again. I bought one recently. When I went to change the filter, the plastic thing that holds it in wouldn't come off. I tried everything for about 20 minutes. Finally, the plast piece snapped off and now it's in the garbage where it belongs !

    Thanks for your review, I love this fountain but yes, I also have the issue of how the bacteria issue build up on where the water comes out from the plastic parts. I just discover my cat has really bad feline acne are getting worse and spread very quickly in the past 3 weeks, I got this fountain middle of last year. I am wondering if you have any advice on how you deal with feline acne? (I stop using this fountain yesterday just to see if it might help in the next couple week... )

    • @CatPause
      @CatPause  9 лет назад

      +Jenny Lee On the feline acne topic. You can buy kitty acne pads and rub them on the affected areas. My cats actually will let me squeeze the blue headed pimples. With weekly washing of their glass food bowls and fountain, and a scattered acne kitty wipe, their acne is under control.

    • @SirReptitious
      @SirReptitious 7 лет назад +1

      The cure for feline acne is so simple- get rid of ALL plastic food and water bowls, and any plastic toys they are going to chew or rub against. My previous cat had a lot of chin acne before I was told it was from plastic dishes. I switched to glass feeding bowls and a stainless steel water bowel and the acne went away. And the cat I have now has never had acne because I know now what causes it.

    When my cats used the Stainless Steel 360 the finish started peeling off and fell into the bowl/well, that they drank from. They became sick shortly afterwards. It had nothing to do with our water, and the filters and fountain were clean prior to. I returned it, at full refund. I'm assuming Amazon didn’t want to be held responsible for our cats health. Horrible fountain.

      Any type of activated carbon will work (amzn.to/2hRxSSH)
      And for the carbon bags, I found some cheap ones at my local pet store. I don't see anything online that's a good price.

    I just got this fountain and I don’t like it. It’s just as bad as the plastic one in terms of how quickly it gets slimy and gross. But at least the plastic one I have doesn’t reduce water flow when dirty. The metal one seems to have water flow issues within a few days of being cleaned. I went back to the plastic one since at least I can see when it’s dirty and it’s easier to assemble/cleaan

      Karen Grainger-Allen I was concerned about things like this. I was using a mild vinegar and water and Dawn solution to clean the hard water marks that began building up on the Petmate plastic fountain, and would take the casing of the pump apart every week to find pink mold buildup INSIDE and under the magnetic rotator (looks like a fan). I'm hoping that by switching to the Big Max (WITHOUT the plastic body, though the pump and internal housing for the filter IS plastic) that's stainless steel, it might be healthier. Thanks for the 'heads up'.

    15 Minutes to clean this, is not bad at all. You can break up cleaning into less intensive and more intensive cleaning sessions, per month. Just keep up, and you'll be fine.
    Compare time cleaning to how long it takes to walk a dog every day, keeping your cat's watering device clean takes no time worth commenting on at all.
