- Ashwatthama executes his deadly plan to attack Pandavas while they are asleep in their barracks. It is a dark night and Ashwatthama sneaks into their barrack and beheads all the sons of Pandavas. He happily returns back to Duryodhan to inform him that he took his revenge by beheading the five Pandavas. At least Duryodhan's repentance was true.He said he had no enimity with the Upapandavas he only wanted to kill the Pandavas but due to Ashwathama's mistake the Kuru dynasty was destroyed.
arjun singh nahi in reality he repented the death of the Upapandavas..He only hated the Pandavas not their children.There are many versions of this story in some versions Ashwathama knows that he killed the Upapandvas by mistake but he lies to Duryodhan so that he could die in peace in some versions when he reaches Duryodhan he is already dead..This part is not made up b the director.The Brahmashira astra and not the Brahmastra saga actually goes on in Vyasa's ashram where Ashwathama pretends to be an ascetic.

Ashwattama strangled Dhrishtidyumna. He denied him death with a weapon so that Dhrishtidyumna won't gain heaven. Ashwattama was not afraid of anyone. He had taken an oath to exterminate Pandavas along with their decendents. The only reason Pandavas were safe is because they occupied and stayed the night in Kaurawa camp.
