Meaning of mantra - All praise to Lord Ganesh, the Divine Son of Goddess Girija, who embodies all auspiciousness and wisdom. Ayodha Dass, the author of these verses, earnestly prays that everyone may receive the blessing of fearlessness.
O Resplendent Lord, companion of Parvati, You are the epitome of compassion. You consistently bestow Your grace upon the humble and devout followers. Your exquisite form is graced by the moon upon Your forehead, and Your ears are adorned with earrings shaped like serpents.
The sacred Ganges flows from Your matted locks, captivating the saints and sages with Your magnificent presence. A garland of skulls encircles Your neck, while white ash enhances Your Divine form, complemented by garments made of lion's skin.
O Lord, the cherished daughter of Maina by Your side further elevates Your majestic appearance. O Bearer of the lion's skin, the trident in Your hand vanquishes all adversaries.
Nandi and Shri Ganesh, alongside Lord Shiva, appear as two exquisite lotuses amidst an ocean. The extraordinary form of Lord Kartikeya and the dark-hued Ganas (attendants) elude the descriptions of poets and philosophers.
O Lord, whenever the Deities humbly sought Your aid, You graciously alleviated their troubles. You generously assisted the Deities when the demon Tarak tormented them, leading to his destruction.
O Lord, Purari, You safeguarded all Deities and humanity by conquering the demons Tripurasura. You blessed Your devotee Bhagirath, enabling him to fulfill his vow after enduring rigorous penance.
O Gracious One, Your devotees continually extol Your virtues. The Vedas themselves fall short in capturing the essence of Your magnificence. No being possesses generosity comparable to Yours.
Lord, during the churning of the ocean, when the lethal poison surfaced, Your profound compassion led You to consume it, thereby safeguarding the world from annihilation. This act turned Your throat blue, earning You the name Nilakantha.
When Lord Rama sought to worship You, he triumphed over the demon king, Ravan. In a test of devotion, the Divine Mother concealed a thousand lotus flowers at Your behest, as Lord Rama intended to offer them to You.
O Lord, You gazed upon Shri Ram, who longed to present his lotus-like eyes in worship. Witnessing such profound devotion, You were filled with joy and bestowed upon him Your blessings, fulfilling his innermost desire.
All glory to You, O Gracious, Infinite, Immortal, and All-pervading Lord. I am tormented by malevolent thoughts and wander aimlessly in this transient world. Relief appears elusive.
O Lord! I implore Your assistance and seek Your divine blessing at this moment. Protect me and vanquish my adversaries with Your Trishul. Liberate me from the torment of evil thoughts.
O Lord, in my moments of distress, neither my parents, siblings, nor loved ones can alleviate my suffering. My reliance is solely on You. You are my hope. Eradicate the source of this immense anguish and bestow upon me Your compassion.
O Lord, You bestow prosperity upon the downtrodden and impart wisdom to the ignorant. Due to my limited understanding, I have neglected to worship You. Please forgive my oversight and shower Your grace upon me.
O Lord Shankar, You are the annihilator of all sorrows. You eliminate the roots of all obstacles and grant eternal bliss to Your devotees. Saints and sages meditate upon Your most resplendent form, and even celestial beings like Sharad and Narad bow in reverence before You.
O Lord, I bow in humility before You. Even Brahma cannot fully articulate Your greatness. Those who recite these verses with faith and devotion shall receive Your boundless blessings.
Individuals who recite these verses with profound devotion are blessed with prosperity through the grace of Lord Shiva. Those who are childless and yearn for offspring find their wishes fulfilled after receiving Shiva-prasad with sincere faith and dedication.
On Trayodashi, which occurs on the 13th day of both the waning and waxing phases of the moon, it is customary to invite a priest and make offerings to Lord Shiva with reverence. Those who observe fasting and engage in prayer to Lord Shiva on this day are assured of good health and prosperity.
Anyone who presents incense, prasad, and performs arti for Lord Shiva with genuine love and devotion experiences both material joy and spiritual fulfillment in this life, and ultimately ascends to the realm of Lord Shiva in the afterlife. The poet beseeches Lord Shiva to alleviate the suffering of all and bestow upon them eternal bliss.
O Universal Lord, I faithfully recite this Chalisa every morning. I humbly request your blessings so that I may fulfill both my material and spiritual aspirations.
