I lived in Nashville for many years and was very fortunate to play the Opry several times with Dale Ann Bradley. We got to share a dressing room with The Osbourne Brothers. We also got to playy The Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree. What an honor! The place to be on Opry nights was Acuff's dressing room....what a place of honor!
I met Mr. Tubb in Sep - 1968. He invited me on his bus. I told him he was my second-favorite singer. He asked who #1 was. I told him he probably wasn't old enough to have heard of Jimmie Rodgers. He smiled big and told me Jimmie was his favorite, too. He told me about Mrs. Rodgers helping him get his start.
When the park was still open we were getting ready for one of the CMA award shows at the Opry. Me & my friend Linda were working on our task in front of the Grand Ole Opry. Mr Acuff came out and talked to us then said it sure is hot out here. I think I have something that might help you ladies. Ill be right back. He went into his house & came back out about 5 minutes or so later with 2 paper sacks. Inside was a RC Cola and a moonpie! He even offered to sign our sacks. I still have my piece of the sack with his autograph.
I’m glad your enjoyed yourself in my hometown. I love this city. I used to work at Opryland when I was younger. I got to meet all these wonderful people that you were talking about. They were truly treasure’s of our history. They each had hearts of gold. Kids today will never know nor appreciate true musicians like this that carved the pathway for others. They were truly LEGENDS and I’m proud we have places to go to honor them.
I went to the Grand Ol Opry after first opening in the 60/70’s. That’s how long ago it was. Wasn’t much there then but WOW!!! Greatly advanced with memories.
Thank You, Jordan ! Huge Country Music Fan here ! Really Enjoyed seeing all of this. SILVER EAGLE TOUR BUSES were Great. They were the preffered buses for the Stars and the Bands. They were originally made for the TRAILWAYS BUS Lines. So Nice to see all of this ! 😊
My dad loved Roy Acuff & Ernest Tubb. He also loved the Wabash Cannonball so much that my siblings & I had to learn it first. No problem for my sisters & I but my brothers couldn't do it-they played drums!😂🎵🎵🎵😅
We can confirm the Roy Acuff house is under renovation for a new experience, but we're not quite ready to unwrap it just yet. Come back in a few weeks! (Also, the house was nearly destroyed in the flood of 2010, including almost all of the original furnishings and features. The house was extensively remediated after the flood and has served as offices with a small museum space for special Opry exhibits since then, until its current renovation, which will give it a new, permanent use.)
Mr. Acuffs life was so interesting and to hear about what he had done for country music was really special. To see the home they built for him says so much about him. Loved seeing the bus too. Such a piece of history. The artists, the music, the dedication to their craft is something to admire & cherish. Thanks Jordan for reminding us about the free things to stop & see.
Thank you for doing this I went to this opry house several years ago and it was great. The night I went it was my birthday and you could walk up to the stage Grandpa Jones was on the stage and I told him I wanted his picture he stopped said Happy Birthday and I got his picture also Roy Acuff and Dottie West all the people you are talking about they were all still living.and there.but not Ernest Tubb
Oh man, Jordan. This is absolutely incredible!! I am a huuuuuge ET fan. My dad used to sing Waltz Across Texas to me as a kid. Can't believe I got to look at his tour bus, thanks to you. *Chills* Thank you so very much for sharing this. Love love love. Happy travels, hope you're having a great weekend
Loved this vlog, Jordan! The Opry is a very special place. I was privileged to see Roy Acuff and Loretta Lynn together on that stage and get a wonderful picture of them that I treasure today! Thank you, Jordan ❤
I loved Hee Haw my favorite gift was Hee haw overall shorts until I grew out of them. Thank you for doing this amazing vlog! My family were country fans and I grew up listening to it. Michelle from Omaha
Oh! One more thing. That's not the Stringbean tree. Unfortunately, the Stringbean memorial tree died a couple of years ago, so it was removed along with the plaque commemorating its planting.
Its funny because everytime I pass thru Nashville I always stop at the Parthenon and forget about the Opry! But whenever I go to Lynchburg I stop at the Opry🤦🏾♀️🤣
Hey Jordan first time to comment. Long time subscriber and I love you videos. I need to correct you on something. You said the Grand Ole Opry had Saturday night performances. The Grand Ole Opry also has Sunday night shows. They were gospel. I performed there in June of 1974. I met Roy Acuff.
Everyone please checkout the guy in the background come out of the opry at about the 2:05 mark. Get a good zoom in on that. The dude shoots the moon. Not kidding lol I’m dying here lmao😂
I went to Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry after I had graduated from high school in 1997 it was a gift from mom and her best friend who did a lot bus trips my mom and her best and her nephew we went it was a lot fun touring Nashville I just wish I went by myself my mom embarrassed me especially when Vince Gill came out and sang she was like a teenager i wanted to for the way she acted i have a picture of bronzed minnie pearl and the toosie bar i was amazed with all the pictures and autographs in Tootsie's bar but had a lot of i would love to back Nashville
Great information!!! Thanks Jordan! Next time you go through Nashville, go to Dino’s on Galatin Ave. oldest dive bar in Nashville. Also repeatedly voted Best burger and fries in Nashville! Go grab a burger from my son Taylor Varnell! AKA Dip!! Help him pay student loans! He is paying his off!! 🤗🤗🤗
Thanks for making a GREAT video on Nashville and the Opry. It's been raining for days so not sure when you were in town. PLEASE let us know next time you visit so we can meet do a meet up and go eat so BBQ. Best to you and your family on this Memorial Day!! 🙏
I have been in that store. The lady that run it also dresses the country stars (some of them) At Acuff's house, it was closed when we got there too but a man came out and was talking with us. I mentioned Gram Parsons and he said there is a picture of Gram right inside the door . I really wanted to see if that was true
Nice video! Love Old Nashville and the county legends. Did you notice the guy mooning everyone near the entrance of the Opry? Right at about 2:05 in the video.
I recall a story it was eaither jack greene or cal smith got on ernest about his drinkn. Ernest stop the bus and kicked them out and made them walk. He did pick then back up. Im 47 and that era 40 to 90s i think had the best music
P.,S. If you'll notice the tackle box on Tubbs' bus it contained very few lures and tackle. It was for pills, etc. When you work like the king of dates those guys did you needed all the help you could get.....trust me on this.
I grew up close to where Roy Acuff lived in Inglewood before the house was built at Opryland for him. I remember seeing him outside the Inglewood Pharmacy as I was walking home from school…I was 10-12 years old at the time. I got to talk with him for a few minutes before we parted ways. I still live very close by. Since you mentioned Stringbean and Grandpa…I drive past their houses going to/from work in Greenbrier. If you are coming from Greenbrier/Ridgetop, Grandpa’s house is just inside the county line on the right. Drive slowly and look at the driveway in your right…you won’t be disappointed. Grandpa is buried a short distance away off that highway. Let me know if you want me to show you these sites.

On my bucket list! One day I WILL go here! I'm 38, and give me Johnny and June, Dolly and Kenny, Roy Acuff, George and Tammy.... all the GOOD country!
Thanks Jordan! I got to meet Roy Acuff in 1977 when I was 11 yrs old.
I'll never forget it 😃

Really enjoyed this. Maybe it's our similar roots but not many I know are GBV, country music and a Reds fan.
I'm moving to Nashville Tennessee soon
Native Nashvillian here! Are you still on Nashville? Wish you would do a meet N greet…It would be awesome?

Hope everyone has a good Memorial Day.
I went to the Grand Ole Opry a very long time ago and I was bored out of my skull

I'm happy to say I know who Roy Acuff is, and none of the so called modern stars.
👍
you should do a vid on layne staley like you've done on kurt cobain
I'm not a fan of layne's.
@@DazewithJordantheLion don't like the music?

Country music is dead today no talent all auto tune
Agree
All down hill after Randy Travis and George Strait. "Arena" country-rock made it a spectacle.
