@@jjbud3124 Agreed. Elvis just turned this song completely around and made it his own totally. To me Elvis owns this one. It's his song. I might be biased though because I say that about a few classics if different genres that Elvis covered. "My Way" being a prime example of how Elvis completely changed my mind. I always thought of it as Frank's song. After I listened to Elvis's version there's really no comparison. Elvis- by the end of the song- had comvinced me it was no longer Frank's. He completely owns it in my humble opinion.

My all time favorite country song is Eddy Arnold singing this song.. I remember being a little girl and listening to it with my Pop-Pop. Elvis was the King on his own but also the King of doing cover songs.. The man could sing anything.

The famous cry heard around the world. It was ever present, whether, it was from relationship, the lost of his twin brother, his mother, whatever, he just wanted to shut everything out. He was easy to read, he was complex, but not always. In his later years he became almost a recluse. As we all know it's lonely at the top. And the interesting part is he always confided in women, even the guys around him didn't hear a lot of personal information. Loved it Seph.

I love this song. Best version. Elvis was really straining and struggling on this night. He turned in one of his best ever performances the night before and he was a bit shot on this night. You can hear his voice is strained during some of the chorus. It’s discussed on Leon’s ultimate Elvis channel. I admire that he gave it his best and really belted it out. The Colonel beat him down and these are the first glimpses of Elvis getting worn down. Still the greatest of all time. Top 150 song.
@@Barbara-lb5yt It can't be seen. It can be heard. All of the orchestration and backup singers cover it pretty well. I think it's the first noticeable glimpses of fatigue. He could only take so much vocal strain with that ridiculous schedule and, of course, drug abuse took its toll.

It was the performance where he went into the audience a 2nd time & some of the chains & tabs of his Chain jumpsuit were ripped -- it's at ruclips.net/video/9lm5m0H0LQk/видео.html. A woman yelled something up to him & he said "Honey, I wouldn't go back down there again for love nor money." There's a few second piece of footage (I don't recall which video it was on) of him being hoisted up in the air by some audience members. There are also a few photos from some '70's concerts in other cities of how he looked after performing -- wiped out. And one from the mid- '50's in Minneapolis & St. Paul --- totally exhausted.

I've been listening to his voice both on 45''s since 1954 until now on stage, & I know about Parker (who I have never referred to as Colonel), where he came from, the drugs, etc., etc. I just happen to pick up on something a little different this time. It's more a matter, I believe, of some people seeing or hearing things others may not, or hearing & seeing something a little differently. Sometimes it could be a matter of perspective also.

His improvising is so good because it adds emphasis and personalises songs to his natural musical expression. I think the maximum is when he sings New Orleans. No one expects this beginning. It is the only time, I believe, that he has ever begun a song on high power & loud. Yes, it's all those little lyric changes that you don't expect which made him, once again, so unique. Another singer would just sing it "flat out" -- but not Elvis.
@@kathifielder1110 I believe I understand why you're asking & yes, I heard a few different versions -- a studio version, one from '76 & another one but no idea when exactly it was. This was the only time I experienced his voice sounding a little strained, very slightly off--key in a couple of spots -- particularly on the word "door" when he sang "...and you'll open the door." Maybe it's just my particular feeling about this song here that to me comes as close to perfection as possible -- sounding impeccable.

And while I've heard all the other songs 100's of x's, it was re-hearing the opening that caused me to say what I did. Now that I think of it, his ending of "Tomorrow Never Comes" is glass shattering -- a song that doesn't get enough play.

Hi Seph! It’s Wednesday, my day off work and I’m getting nothing done because I’m too busy playing catchup but I’ll forgo progress for you and Elvis. So much to say here. The high collars were always a thing for Elvis. I have read that he was teased about his long neck as a child. They called him “chicken neck”, haha but whenever he shows us his neck all I see is a long, graceful neck that attaches his beautiful head to his beautiful shoulders (I got it bad:)! His designer, Bill Belew, commented on his use of high collars for Elvis because he had a face worth framing. Also, Mr. Belew was quoted after putting Elvis in the 68 Special, black leather that he was dumbfounded that the biggest star on the planet simply accepted every outfit without interjecting his own desires. Moving on, his upper torso rolls toward the band are an involuntary reaction to the music. Frequently, he smiles to himself for having found himself in that position which makes him so polarizing to watch such as when he actually shivers when James begins his solo. Last, the big beginning belt says you’re not going anywhere. To my knowledge the only other time he does this is…(spoiler alert Seph)…I Can’t Stop Loving You…shivers myself, every time! My all time favorite country song is Eddy Arnold singing this song.. I remember being a little girl and listening to it with my Pop-Pop. Elvis was the King on his own but also the King of doing cover songs.. The man could sing anything.

The famous cry heard around the world. It was ever present, whether, it was from relationship, the lost of his twin brother, his mother, whatever, he just wanted to shut everything out. He was easy to read, he was complex, but not always. In his later years he became almost a recluse. As we all know it's lonely at the top. And the interesting part is he always confided in women, even the guys around him didn't hear a lot of personal information. Loved it Seph.
And the women he chose were not always in a "relationship" with him, just friends.

I love this song. Best version. Elvis was really straining and struggling on this night. He turned in one of his best ever performances the night before and he was a bit shot on this night. You can hear his voice is strained during some of the chorus. It’s discussed on Leon’s ultimate Elvis channel. I admire that he gave it his best and really belted it out. The Colonel beat him down and these are the first glimpses of Elvis getting worn down. Still the greatest of all time. Top 150 song.
@@Barbara-lb5yt It can't be seen. It can be heard. All of the orchestration and backup singers cover it pretty well. I think it's the first noticeable glimpses of fatigue. He could only take so much vocal strain with that ridiculous schedule and, of course, drug abuse took its toll.
@@Barbara-lb5yt You can see fatigue on "the Sit down outtake" where he asked for his little stool & sat down to do 4 songs. His hair was wet & he was wiped out but his voice was wonderful. It was the performance where he went into the audience a 2nd time & some of the chains & tabs of his Chain jumpsuit were ripped -- it's at ruclips.net/video/9lm5m0H0LQk/видео.html. A woman yelled something up to him & he said "Honey, I wouldn't go back down there again for love nor money." There's a few second piece of footage (I don't recall which video it was on) of him being hoisted up in the air by some audience members. There are also a few photos from some '70's concerts in other cities of how he looked after performing -- wiped out. And one from the mid- '50's in Minneapolis & St. Paul --- totally exhausted.

@@Barbara-lb5yt Elvis always gave everything -- be it on stage or in rehearsals or in the recording studio. I've been listening to his voice both on 45''s since 1954 until now on stage, & I know about Parker (who I have never referred to as Colonel), where he came from, the drugs, etc., etc. I just happen to pick up on something a little different this time. It's more a matter, I believe, of some people seeing or hearing things others may not, or hearing & seeing something a little differently. Sometimes it could be a matter of perspective also.

His improvising is so good because it adds emphasis and personalises songs to his natural musical expression. I think the maximum is when he sings New Orleans. No one expects this beginning. It is the only time, I believe, that he has ever begun a song on high power & loud. Yes, it's all those little lyric changes that you don't expect which made him, once again, so unique. Another singer would just sing it "flat out" -- but not Elvis.

@@kathifielder1110 I believe I understand why you're asking & yes, I heard a few different versions -- a studio version, one from '76 & another one but no idea when exactly it was. This was the only time I experienced his voice sounding a little strained, very slightly off--key in a couple of spots -- particularly on the word "door" when he sang "...and you'll open the door." Maybe it's just my particular feeling about this song here that to me comes as close to perfection as possible -- sounding impeccable.
@@Barbara-lb5yt Yes, andI think what prompted me to say what I did was because of the surprise opening line -- totally unexpected, which surprises everyone. And while I've heard all the other songs 100's of x's, it was re-hearing the opening that caused me to say what I did. Now that I think of it, his ending of "Tomorrow Never Comes" is glass shattering -- a song that doesn't get enough play.

Hi Seph! It’s Wednesday, my day off work and I’m getting nothing done because I’m too busy playing catchup but I’ll forgo progress for you and Elvis. So much to say here. The high collars were always a thing for Elvis. I have read that he was teased about his long neck as a child. They called him “chicken neck”, haha but whenever he shows us his neck all I see is a long, graceful neck that attaches his beautiful head to his beautiful shoulders (I got it bad:)! His designer, Bill Belew, commented on his use of high collars for Elvis because he had a face worth framing. Also, Mr. Belew was quoted after putting Elvis in the 68 Special, black leather that he was dumbfounded that the biggest star on the planet simply accepted every outfit without interjecting his own desires.
Moving on, his upper torso rolls toward the band are an involuntary reaction to the music. Frequently, he smiles to himself for having found himself in that position which makes him so polarizing to watch such as when he actually shivers when James begins his solo.
Last, the big beginning belt says you’re not going anywhere. To my knowledge the only other time he does this is…(spoiler alert Seph)…I Can’t Stop Loving You…shivers myself, every time!
