Humpback Whale Plays in the Surf with Surfers and Dolphins!

- A juvenile humpback whale graced the line up in Western Australia playing in the waves with dolphins and surfers.
On this day the dolphins were playing around in the waves for a while so I decided to throw my drone up and capture the dolphins from the sky. To my surprise a large shadow appeared, which turned out to be a humpback whale. At this spot along the coast we often see humpbacks breaching out to see but rarely in this close to the surfers and waves.
The whale and dolphins seemed to have a connection and were happy interacting with each other inside the break. This allowed a few surfers to experience some magical moments with the large mammal.
After about 4 minuets a large set came through breaking on the whale. This seemed to spook it, unfortunately causing the whale to dive off back into the depths of the Indian Ocean. This can be seen in the last clip of the video.
This was a memorable encounter for me and one where I was just in the right place at the right time with my drone.

I wonder how much we miss somthing wonderful things happening every day in nature. Unless someone took this scene nobody would knew this beauty. Tiny men and huge gentle whale and playful dolphins and majestic waves, all in one ground. Awesome.♡♡

So beautiful to see like this I love Whales and Dolphins...
Big enough and old enough to have left mum especially if it is a male. People ask why whales breech and slap with tail and flippers, because they can! Once had a pod of dolphins join us at a South West surf break, rubbing their backs along our dangling feet, coming up alongside and eyeballing us and sharing waves. Unforgettable! Also had 3 dolphins follow me and a mate when we got caught out in rough weather in a small tinny at Coberg Peninsula NT. The moment we beached the boat at camp they turned away and left. Makes you think !

Not only the whale was big and impressive. Also the waves! They seem to be very powerful, fast and massive to me. Only for experienced Surfers to ride i guess. Since i can remember i am in love with the Ocean and with all the creatures in it. Hang loose and avoid plastic when possible. always. Greetings from Bavaria germany

You captured amazing footage👍 I too am fortunately blessed. Our boardwalk is literally 1 long block away from my house and we can see Humpbacks and pods of Dolphins along our shoreline. I had a wonderful time watching dolphins this summer💓🐬🐳

Unusual to see such a young whale without it's mother/pod. Maybe the dolphin pod are fostering it.
its most likely a sub adult (teenager) that split away from mum this migration season. they tend to still have the playful behaviour of a calf for a while

Please let scenes like this continue forever. I have my own part to play in helping the environment and this has just made me think that I don't do enough. I need to be more thoughtful and aware.
Heaven would be for such a creature to have such choices as to bask close to shore when they wish too in the waves and peacefully do this whenever...day after day

Beautiful footage! I surfed all around Australia 2 years ago and was lucky enough to meet the amazing wildlife of the ocean. I spent quite a long time in Exmouth WA. Where was this video recorded? Thanks for sharing

...I wish I had the words for that amazing footage...I don't nor do I think words can convey the power and majesty of that moment in time...Im speechless and missing the ocean more than ever....for the 52 dislikes, hopefully one day one of you will see and be able to recognize something as beautiful and powerful in life...even if you have no god...

Alasdair Evans there are just too many resources for people to access to learn about any of the whales, dolphins etc. without having to see them in an enclosure of any kind and your video I consider to be one of those valuable resources for others to learn from. 😊🙏🏼
Where I lived was across from the beach. Would go for an early morning swim and most days, I had a small pod of Dolphins that would body surf the waves with me. Tucked up close to my sides, lifting me guiding me also... it was amazing feeling..... having a whale join in would of been mind blowing...

I wish the whale stayed around for longer. Only a total of 4 to 5 minuets before it saw off into the deep blue! I was very lucky to have the drone up at that time

This makes me wonder if beached whales are ones trapped in shallow water when playing like this. It seems like it would be pretty easy for this guy to get swept back into the shallow water and get trapped. Awesome to watch, I would love to be one of those surfers.

Just surfed with dolphins for the first time this morning. Such a surreal experience. Terrifying at first. Saw a fin pop out of nowhere and immediately blurted out in panic, " That better be a fucking dolphin!"
