i'm also a recovering addict...and many songs strike a chord with me and the people i've lost , including family, all to drugs. People don't just set out to use heroin.....there's always a reason. I was abused as a youngster and i'm not in any way shape or form using that as an excuse, more of an explanation. As i said no-one forces you to take heroin. It's in your brain at a particular moment that gives in....particularly if you're holding something in. So please don't be ignorant to addicts recovering or still using. Heroin was my only friend for so long. Educate yourself about the subject before you comment. Oh and everybody has some sort of addiction....it may be football....it may be the gym, it may be food. So if you want to "press the language" those are all addictions too. Einstein said.....doing the same thing over and over is the first sign of madness. Make of that what you want. Have a great 2019 guys and remember....there is ALWAYS someone willing to help, listen etc but you have to want it.

Now this comment isn't goin to get noticed by that many people but I would just like to tell everyone the story about my dad who sadly passed away on the 28th of april
2018. He was lead to believe he had nothing wrong with his lungs for a solid year until it came out on the 5th of February 2018 that he had stage 4 cancer and tumors that spread to his brain. Me and my family tried with all our might to keep him but it wasn't enough and this is the song my brother listens to every night because our dad would sing this to him. All the stuff I've been through in the last 2 years and I'm still here. I want everyone who reads this to know that I am here for u and if ur struggling with anything....... I will leave the light on❤️❤️

I feel you. For some reason today I listened to this song and for the first time I put myself through my dad's shoes. He passed away in 2018 and I could imagine how he must have felt leaving us behind. To me it definitely feels like the lights to his house turned off forever. Some days god knows I could use the guidance. :(
About a month ago, I tried to overdose. Luckily, It didn't work but my family found me on the floor of the bathroom with the pills in my hand. I just wanna say no matter what you think, someone out there wants you to be alive.

Its not suicide because hes wondering where he is, and hes saying keep a hold, its a song about saving a friend thats literally in the sewers and life is in a mess due to drugs.. he sings, i refuse to lose another friend to drugs. Meaning its happened before so this persons hes singing about still can be helped.
Maybe his friend heard this song and that was the cause of his attempting suicide....had the same effect on me.

You're probably talking about Depression or/and suicidal thoughts, aren't you? And if that's the case... Know one thing, you are not alone no matter what your brain tells you. Go talk about it with some extremly close friends or a stranger if you dont feel comfortable talking to friends/family because you feel embarrassed. This stranger can be someone on the street or the suicide hotline. As soon as you take a step into this direction you'll only get better.
Now you might wonder why is he telling me all of this. Well I am right now battling my Depression that I've got since 9 years. Talking with friends and other people about it really helped me to cope with it. Also I'm on antidepressant and also a tip about them, better try them now because you might be around later to try them.

It’s so sad yet heartwarming to see all these comments about losing people they love, because even though you guys are going through loss it’s nice to know We’re not alone going through the pain off losing someone they love. I lost my dad just over 3 months ago to a car accident and listening to songs like these helps a lot to remember him and mourn him, reading the comments helps me realise it will get better and the pain will slowly fade and help me know I’m not alone and I have people to help me get through this.
I am so sorry for those experiencing loss, like myself, but it will slowly get better, there is always someone or something that can help you get through the pain, it will always be there but it can be helped and reduced, you may feel like giving up or you may feel trapped and alone but eventually you’ll heal overtime.

I dunno why, but this song makes me think of all the positives and all the cons in my life.
My positives make me think of all my supportive friends who have been there for me. The ones that make me laugh, feel important and feel wanted. I am always alone during the summer with no friends in the neighborhood. Only the ones miles away. I have connected to the ones in the virtual worlds of Discord and ROBLOX. But, they know me. They are like family- and I love them.
The cons are reminding me of my last school class. The only year in my school time to feel happy and excited about school. I never wanted to miss it. And now that it is over. I cry every time- and none of the classmates I talk to feel the same. I am aching just wanting to do it all again, do the adventure just one more time. In fact, I'm crying right now just thinking of the memories, the fun times. The laughter, the sense of coming to a place with support from kids your age, that get what you're feeling. They just don't ignore you to fend for yourself. And, as stupid and babyish for some people, I feel genuinely upset about it being over. I'm starting a new school so I will know no one. It'll be hard, but I'm ready, ready to let go a bit. To wait for someone to help me and leave a light on for me.
All I just want to say is your light shall always be on, to guide you, and to make sure you are safe and okay.

My best friend loved this song! He was such a joyful person too! I always thought it was odd that he liked this song so much. It didn't seem like him. He changed over the years. I asked him what was wrong but he refused to tell me. A week later he attempted suicide. He survived though, which I was so happy about. I promised to never leave his side after that day. A year later, he got sick. He ended up passing away. It makes me feel a little better knowing that it wasn't his fault he died. I miss him so much. This song is the only thing I have left of him.

I enjoy this song, because I was an addict. I feel like this is a strong message. Even though i gave up my addictions I feel an urge. But i now have a family that needs me. So I work my butt off to provide for them. Truthfully we need each other so I wake up stronger than I was yesterday. I'll never give in to the thing that made me the most vulnerable ever again.

This hit me hard. I'm bi and this girl I like has been have issues. I have been there for her through everything. I told her that if she ever needed to get away, she could camp out in my room and no one would know. Today she ran away from her home and made her whole family and me panic. I was hoping maybe she would remember my offer... she has been doing drugs.... a friend of mine did drugs. She got mad at me when I tried to talk to her. We aren't friends anymore and I don't know if she is ok or not. My friend that ran away finally came home. I haven't talked to her or seen her yet... I can feel that something is still off.... Update: I was the guy who commented about my dad dying just gone 3 years ago, and we have just surpassed my stepdads funeral now too. It's beginning to get a lot harder without them, but I will keep my light on for all you guys who read this, thank you ❤️
