Currently, my books are on the floor (just moved), and as I unpacked them, I did notice that many of them are non-fiction, which I like collection, but not reading, apparently. So, my goal is to participate in the "read it or unhaul it" challenge next year. 😅
I read mostly sff and the odd romance, but I do love me a good niche non-fic, so it should be fun. 😊

In early 2020 when the pandemic started I counted my unread books for something to do. Ended up with 562 unread vs 200 read so just about what you have. I decided to try and read them and I’m down to 52 today. Some I read, some I read and listened to the audio from Libby, and some I DNFed because they didn’t work for me. I was ruthless because I also wanted to keep reading new releases and my TBR was stressing me out. I’m hoping to keep my TBR to 30ish. I think if it doesn’t stress you out having unread books is great (especially when there’s an unexpected pandemic and you’re trapped inside 😂) but if you decide to tackle the pile I can tell you it’s doable 👍. You got this!

I love a book stats video😊. I definitely own more read books than unread since I usually read books from the library first then buy them if I really like them, so I'm probably around 90% read, 10% unread. I do want to work on actually reading that 10%, since I tend to prioritize the library books (since they have due dates) and never get around to the unread books I own😅. I highly recommend both Ancillary Justice and Ninefox Gambit, which I spotted you had unread. Those series are two of my all-time favorites.

I’m not really acquiring books any more. I needed the shelf space for my daughter’s growing library, so I donated almost everything & now I mostly use Libby, and occasionally buy a book I’ve read that I rated 5 stars!

Loved this!! I personally own somewhere between 1000 and 1100 books, and obviously absolutely love it haha. It's 6 billy bookshelves stuffed to the brim, with various other little stacks throughout my tiny studio appartment (don't ask how it fits, and yes, moving is an absolute nightmare). I have read about 50% and I'm quite happy with that, though I would like it to be more like 60% read. But tbh I buy too many books for that to ever happen and quite frankly I'm fine with that hahaha. Genre wise, I would say we're quite similar except I have more literary fiction and I own more non-fiction, but we do read on the exact same non-fiction subjects haha.

Great video. I used to have a lot of books but I moved apartments a few times and decluttered a lot. I now have one bookshelf and I still try to frequently declutter before I run out of space. I could get a second bookshelf but I think if my one bookshelf is not enough than I have too many books, when the majority I won't read again even if I really loved them. I also got a kindle to try and save space, and I have bought less physical books. The problem is that I have even more unread books on my kindle than on my physical bookshelf because of deals, and because they don't take up space, it's easy to accumulate them. After decluttering, I have about 60 unread kindle books and 20 physical books and it really stresses me out.

Never knew what it was until I came back to the States. It is a life saver for sure! My current most read genre has been YA, only because of the amount of series I began and finished this year. My second is Fiction. I have to do year calculations, but just quickly glancing, it is accurate. I've mainly read ebooks this year, so I just started buying books again. I mainly owned informational books, like astrology, herbology, and magic. I do have some unread books, but not many. Doable to read next year for sure! ✨️🖤📚 I love your library btw!

I get rid of books I didn't enjoy or wouldn't reread. I give them away to family and friends, donate them, or put them in little free libraries. I currently have a very small library because a few years ago I moved to work overseas. As I settle back down (in Canada), I know my library will grow again, but all the books I love I always put in storage back home in Ontario :) I have less than 100 books in total. I mostly own literary fiction but also have a lot of plays and short story collections. My brother-in-law works for Chapters Indigo, so it's always tough to control my book buying. But most often I use my library (which is connected to Hamilton, Burlington, Mississauga & Ottawa's libraries), get books from little free libraries, or buy them from thrift stores/secondhand.

  • @erinh7450

I think watching you sort and expand your library is helping inspire me to finally tackle mine. I only buy books my library doesn't have, and fortunately have free access to two different library consortiums (so, like 20-30 libraries), and even more for audio and ebooks - so it's mostly books not in English and books from independent publishers - which is helpful in keeping the sheer number down, but I've also been reading over 100 books a year for the past 5 years, so it's still crept up quite a bit! I think I'd also like to have my shelves reflect my tastes more, and even buy some favorites I'd read as library books, but also get rid of the stacks around everywhere... I also need to purge even more kids' books and craft supplies from the bookshelves, since there are no more kids here! I have a super-hard time getting rid of books.

I also have 2 “read it or unhaul it”s. I have 52 physical TBRs total but the gifted ones are this year’s priority.

I've been keeping track of my bookcases for 7 years now, and I find that I'm still learning about myself as a reader. For instance, I read and KEEP only about 1/3 of the books I buy. A third!
With that realization, I instituted a system where I try to read it on Kindle Unlimited or borrow from my library first (as much as possible). I'll only "blindly" buy a book if it's free (gift card or store credit) or if it's a special edition (which I can make my money back in resale). This will help slow down the book count. I do allow myself to buy books that I've approved (ebooks/library books) or are continuations of a series. But even then... I try to limit myself to doing that only when I can get them heavily discounted or free.
With that said, I own 623 books in physical form (that aren't reference books, religion/mythology books, or classic literature). I refer to it as my "general reading" versus "reference". Of my 623 general reading books, I still need to read 436 of them. I do feel alright with my numbers though, because in October and November I unhauled around 100 books from my physical collection and then removed about 150 books from my TBR lists for KU and the library.
As you can tell, I'm a big numbers gal, so I LOVE when Booktubers do this! Thank you for the video

I have a couple shelves on Goodreads that I use to track some of this, although I haven't truly updated it since I moved this past summer. But at last count, I have 445 physical books and I've read 64% of them. HOWEVER, this doesn't include duplicate or special edition copies, some books from childhood, or the majority of school textbooks I've hung onto, so I would actually predict I own closer to 500 books and maybe read/studied closer to 70%. I'm sure fantasy is the biggest genre, but I really want to figure out the difference between my YA and adult books (since I've hung on to so much). I actually have a big organization project in January, and I'm hoping to do a big overhaul of my books (in terms of tracking and unhauling).

I've been reading a lot more ebooks in recent years because they're much cheaper than physical books when they're on sale (I usually only buy them when they cost up to $2). Trying to buy less books in general though and focus on my unread books but I've also been thinking about getting a library card and reading more from there to save money and space. 😂 I have to check how many books I own in different genres. My predictions:
    1. 35% read books total (this is loosely based on the fact my bookshelves are my TBR hahaha. LOOL if I’m way off 😅😂)
    2. Sci-fi, the most physical books owned (I was back and forth w/ fantasy here. But I think that SF Masterworks collection gives you more sci-fi books)
    3. Fantasy, highest genre of unread books (they’re so big and take a while to finish!)

OMG I now feel better hahaha ;D ...To be honest I own 850-ish books which around 30% of them are read (I'm surprised I thought that the % were less, now I'm so proud of myself), and since two years ago (2020) I stopped about getting worried or anxious about my physical not read tbr because lets be honest, it will never end (there's a lot of books!!) and with the pandemic I had time to read a ton.
Now my NYE resolution is to be more critical with the new releases because OMG I've been very disappointed specially with Good Reads and ther'e not cheap!! and after read them I ended up giving them to someone else or just donating to libraries (which I don't mind but I expect to like them right?). My worst genre is definitely classics I own 130 and read only 40 so I have to do something about it, but the editions are so pretty that it's difficult for me to get ride of them but I need to declutter them. Anyway thank you for this amazing video It's a great idea to realize how many do we like, and to see how our reader tastes evolve :).

It's been a while since I've counted, but I think I have maybe around 200 physical books. (no idea how many on my kindle)
And I think I've read just under half of them. If I kept all the books I've read I would have closer to 400 but I frequently unhaul as well if I don't plan on re-reading or if I didn't like it.

I don't know how much I own but I expect it to be something like 400 books. I have approximately 100 unread give or take (aka most of one Brusali bookcase from Ikea) and that's a happy number for me. So long as all my unread books fit on one bookcase, I consider it manageable. I would like to read some of my older unread books next year though, since I'm much better at reading the new ones coming in.

I definitely have more read than unread books on my shelves, simply because I rarely buy books I haven't read. That had changed, however, this year. You inspired me to read non-fiction and now I'm a bit obsessed and my country's bookstores have such interesting books to choose from. Anyway, my book-buying got a little out of hand (more books bought this year than the previous 5 years) so that even my reader friend is concerned for my wallet

I also unhaul books after I read them if I think I won't read them again. So I mostly only keep 5-star reads. This means my bookshelves are filled with mostly unread. I also read a lot from the library and I like the idea of going back and purchasing 5-star reads that I originally borrowed -- because my bookshelves don't currently reflect my taste -- they reflect the books I'm interested to read.

I used to have hundreds and hundreds of physical books. I don't know the exact number but it is close to what you have (maybe a bit less)... then I moved across the country and didn't think to protect my books. They got infected with booklice. I tried everything to save them but in the end I ended up getting rid of more than half my collection, then vacuum sealing the rest and put them in storage. Now I have about 7 physical books. I get all my books through my kobo/kindle now. I only have 300. I'm trying to get as many of my books back as possible digitally. Gotta say, the whole thing was a nightmare and broke my heart. My book collection was my pride and joy.

I usually get the pocket editions you have to wait a bit but most things will eventually get a pocket edition in France. The differences in prices are quite high, for the premiere edition in big format you get price range between 21 to almost 30€, the pocket edition go from 7€ up to 13€ for the really long ones. We also have the exchange places where you can leave your read books and take some in exchange. For the English ones I usually go for ebooks, easier access and for Polish ones I have monthly abonament on some applications, also easier and quicker acces.
I try to support the temathic and independent libraries here. I love the ones runed by people who have acctual passion, and we have book shops only consacreted to selling "imaginaire" in all it forms. There are also ones for crime novels onyly.

I don't wanna talk about Classics... I have a whole list I'm dedicating 2 months to (to finally read all the classics I've ever been interested in) and it's not going well at all (lots of DNFs).
I don't own a lot of books at all, just purely because I moved countries and my visa still isn't stable and I refuse to settle down properly (i.e build my library) until I have a perminant visa, so most of my read books from the decade are ebooks from the library. I own maybe 80 books max (most are still at my parents' house) with maybe 60% of them read? I buy like 5 new books every two years when I fly back home (an english speaking country with english bookstores).
