Back in the day when spring would come, some of us locals would hike up to the top of Lone Peak and wait for the spring sun to corn up the snow, then telemark the corn. Truly great skiing! That was long before the tram was put in. In fact,, many of us thought the tram was a really bad idea. Snow conditions could be wicked gnarly, along with hellacious wind/weather. Big Sky was truly epic back then, you just needed to know how to access the hidden terrain. Since then, I've moved to Bozeman. My wife and I backcountry ski and rock climb these days. Seeing your video footage brought back long forgotten memories. Cheers!
@@MathersOnTheMap I enjoyed that video. My wife and I climb near by where you stayed over. The Gallatin Canyon will always be home. By the way, there are several boondocking areas in the canyon once the weather breaks.
Just came across this video. Loved seeing Big Sky. I skied for 30 years until my knees gave out & I really miss being on the mountain now. I skied Aspen 4 times(2 weeks at a time) & I have agree that Snowmass is my all time favorite. You guys are "liivin' the dream."
Guys I cannot tell you how much I am enjoying this mountain hopping trip. From an Aussie snowboarder thanks so much for showing me around so many U.S resorts. Cant think of a better way to do a snow tour than in a sick van like yours. We have sunshine & beaches forever in Australia but only a handful of ski resorts. I hope this tour never ends! Cheers :)
Hey Andy, thank you!!!! We have two more mountains to share with you so stay tuned!!!! Thanks for watching we appreciate it! Enjoy the beaches down south!
Lovely blog as always. Editing gets better and better, loved the bit when Kevin went through the trees and Taylor was ‘driving’ the heated lift. Have fun and stay safe 😊
Been out of service for a bit. Playing catch-up with you guys. Diggin the snow! Felt like I was piggybacking Kevin on that last run. Good video. 😎✌️🤙🤘😎
Breath-taking scenic drive at the beginning!!! Can't believe the super deluxe chair lift.... "That's not SNOW, that's Just a Dusting" ( Mercifully ) - don't know if you get the reference, but it fits. Hope you liked the uh, "doughnut test" link I sent you, probably beats a snow-mobile but idk.... LOVE Big Sky, putting it on my list!!
Hey Lillian you don’t need a special drivers license to drive this, I’m not exactly sure what the dimensions are I’d say 22 feet and 9 feet high? Could probably google sprinter van 170” 2500 dimensions for exact measurements. Thanks for watching !!
I have no idea how you guys can snow board!?? You make it look easy. I am a skier and tried to snow board but I couldn't get used to being strapped into the board. I skate boarded for many years and thought that would help......but it didn't!
I love your videos! You are living my dream. I am going to build my van next year (hopefully) and then i hit the slopes like you in winter 22/23 here in europe.
Great video. I wish I had met you while you were in town so I could show you the secret parking spots on the mountain with cell service. Safe travels. 😃
I definitely see Big Sky’s camping policy on the website but as of last week there are people camping for the whole season in the Levinski parking lot. They just have to move every so many days for the plow.
Hi Guys, awesome snow trip, love to do the same with my wife. Lol. I like to ask you guys since I notice that your girlfriend ware a simple shirt in the van while I’m sure that the weather is probably 15 degrees there. How is the dieselHeater workings? Is it worth it?
@@MathersOnTheMap also some of the parking lots like levinsky let you stay for 72 hours then you have to go off property for 24 hours. Glad u found a place to park the van though
You can camp in Lavinsky lot for up to 72 hours since last summer. It is the lowest level lot. Security monitors you, but will not bother you for 3 days.

I'm not a skier (or a snow person) but love watching you guys snowboard and show me the towns you visit!
Thank you Stanzie!!! These towns are winter wonderlands!

As soon as my MOTM T-shirt arrives I’m gonna wear it in our next adventure!
Love this, thank you so much for the support!!! is this John? (looking at our recent T-shirt orders)
@@MathersOnTheMap Yes! It is. I’m stoked :)
Never thought I'd see a chair lift like that lol!

Great video guys, Kevin you going down that mountain looked awesome.
Thanks Dirk it was sweet definitely got the heat rate up! Haha
Glad to see at least one of you are doing tree runs!
Love the glades!

Thank you Diane!! We’re almost on to our Baja videos
Glad you had a good time! We got a foot of fresh snow over the last two days 😜
thanks enjoy it!
Not only is the chair heated but the seats are memory foam ,nice video.👍
Thank you!
Lol, nothing out west is icy for eastern riders. Dakota Bowl, the trees under Iron Horse, Lone Tree & Six Shooters are my favourite areas at Big Sky
Camped 2 nights at Levinsky lot in February, apparently is allowed this season.
Do you ever feel like you need 4wd? Do you have chains or cables ?
we did fine with chains check out the episode before big sky! 😉
Looks awesome, guys! Hope that snow doesn't get too crazy for you two😂
Haha we were good!!! No issues!

Hopefully we will when borders open up again!

@@MathersOnTheMap ok...good to know. It’s a lovely van. Thank you so much for the info👍
How often do you have to refill your watertank?
I can’t really answer that accurately, Depends if we shower a lot and if I or taylor does the dishes. 3 days to a week I guess?!
I have no idea how you guys can snow board!?? You make it look easy. I am a skier and tried to snow board but I couldn't get used to being strapped into the board. I skate boarded for many years and thought that would help......but it didn't!
Haha takes a couple days to get the hang of it! I feel like surfing is closer to snowboarding than skating in my opinion, do ya surf?
Poor Taylor at (6:41). “Oh yeah- OW!!”
Hahahaa
Doom the spot
not going to be able to make it up there for winter but definitely for summer mtb looks sick
It’s beautiful!! Your gonna have so much fun!
Have been enjoying your videos. Love your large “Always take the Scenic Route” mug. Can you link the source?
We don’t have a link unfortunately! Taylors mom got it for her as a gift from a local store
Is your van a 4x4??
2x4 👌🏻

Really? Oh well our spot wasn’t too bad!
Yeah, policy v enforcement is pretty lax. There are very few places you couldn't park overnight in "town".
Jackson hole is way more up your alley. Don't come back to big sky, we have worm's in the snow
Haha coming back soon, for the worms actually!

Absolutely required if you’re taking the van into cold temperatures it’s great

Thank you Joanne! Welcome to the tribe!
We’re heading there for spring break
Enjoy!
Seriously better stop at the Blue moon bakery in town
I loved living there
BTW...what are those...Converse Muck boots?
I wish we did! We missed it. Xtra tuff boots!
A dozen of your viewers likely own 2nd or 3rd homes in BS, I'm surprised there were no offers for parking.
Do you all not have jobs?
Beautiful mountain absolutely terrible company
Thanks for coming to enjoy the mountain. I work here as a lift operator. Hope you guys enjoyed ur time

Wow that’s interesting we read that you couldn’t sleep there anymore on Big Sky’s website! 🤷♀️
