Very good video! You sing Great. I like that double neck but would kill my back. You look like your in great shape so you would be fine. Thanks for keeping the video's coming as they must take up a lot of your time. Good stuff.
This was really excellent Mark .Of course your Guitar playing was superb. However you vocals were also very well done. Plants range in the high range is like a woman singer. You got up there pretty high . I saw your comment about a few takes on the solo. Hey unless you wrote the song and played it 1000 times like Page . Nobody is going to remember and play a solo exactly like the recording. Hell Keith Richards says a song is a living breathing thing and he does different stuff all the time live. I do that myself . Stay in the spirit of the solo and everything is good. FYI with Summer weather now here probably won't see your video's live. I will watch them at some point I was your 94th thumbs up today
I do want to clarify that the version you're hearing is my 1st take of the main guitar, 1.5th take of the solo (the first take broke down about 10 notes in), and my third pass of the vocals. I did use one complete take for the vox though. I played the first one for a couple of people and they said it was uninspiring. The second one broke down after I missed too many notes early on. I relaxed into the third take and just did my best. The final vox are the first and third take combined.
@@8MinuteAxe & Movies N' Stuff, All my recordings that I let others hear are one take, but with possibly added reverb and doubling post recording, that is why I have only made 2 half decent ones in the last 10 years, Mark has already heard my version of High Noon, I may send him my other one when I feel brave enough for it to be critiqued 😟

Well done, Mark. And congratulations on hitting those high notes. A high D is about all I can sing anymore and that's only if I don't have to linger there too long.
Hey Ross. Long time no talk. I hope you're well. A high D! Wow. You have serious range. Are you talking falsetto or chest voice? The only male I've ever heard hit the D is Rob Halford. I hit the B in this one but it was just a push and a split second. I used to sing A comfortably. These days A is a strain. Please take care and be well and thanks so much for being so supportive. Superb playing Mark. I cranked up the volume on the phone to listen, and got told off by the nurses. (Am in hospital atm). So it's apparently also forbidden in hospitals as well as guitar stores. Probabbly also forbidden in Police Stations, Courthouses and cake shops. What tuning/s are you using on the HB? Are both necks tuned the same? I would really like to see you do Kashmir. If memory serves me right it's in DADGAD. Lying here cooped up I've really missed being able to explore the vortex, so seeing that HB and not having the means for an EDS (I have but I can't really justify the expense, a bit like a Rick 12, or anything made by Bozo Padunavac), you've given me an idea!! Now where did I put that credit card?? btw My son is still beating the blazes out of that Strat, daily, for hours, and sends his greetings. He's really struck up a great relationship with that axe. With any luck I'll be out of here soon and be able to drop you a longer message.

@@8MinuteAxe Unfortunately it's very serious, but the good news is I've got great doctors, wonderful nurses, and I'm in a great hospital. And I'm winning. Was struck a severe blow last week when I was informed my second eldest boy had been killed in a freak car accident in Victoria. I can't get to the funeral. He was only 47. Relatives hadn't been informed at the time of the article so his name doesn't appear. He had rolled his work pickup and flagged down a passing motorist to call for assistance, he had sustained minor injuries only. Another car came around a bend in the road, swerved to avoid the stationary car and struck him, killing him instantly. www.bordermail.com.au/story/7734342/man-dies-on-markwood-road-trying-to-flag-down-a-car-after-crash/?cs=11
Hey Sean. I always welcome feedback. I'm a huge Zep fan and I know that live he does it all on the six until the chords but here's what happened. I'm not sure how much you follow the channel but my primary focus is the 12 string. I did the intro on the acoustic 12 for a video and it didn't sound very good. When I broke out the double neck yesterday and cranked up the amp I thought it sounded full without the high g making things weird. I've been thinking of covering this for a while. I do a series called covering the classics where I do a deep dive into the history of a song and then try to play a faithful version of it in the studio. If I tried that with this, I would have been in the weeds. I'd still be trying to get the first 4 measures down just right. LOL. Anyway, I am glad that you enjoyed it at least in part and I do appreciate your time and comment. Please enjoy the rest of your weekend and take care. Mark
I was thinking the same thing but you are the reigning king of the double neck (now that lead belly is dead and Leo Kottke is old). I thought for sure the high g would be wonky but it sounded interesting. Let's face it, your vocals stole the show. After belting out the last section in key (almost but you really went for it and did it just as well as I've ever heard anybody do that part live except for maybe Heart) everybody's going to leave with a good taste in their mouth!
@@8MinuteAxe I think you should do a cover of The Song Remains The Same on that guitar. I'm actually thinking of buying one of those so I'm watching every video I can of people playing one and getting their opinion on it. I'm trying to decide between the Harley Benton or a Chibson. The Gibson is just way to expensive and even the Epiphone model is more than I want to pay. Especially for a used one.
DUDE! I haven't talked to you in forever. You were like fan #7. It's so great to get a comment from you. I hope you're well. The entire thing sounded very trebly for sure. It's hard to get it just right. Rendering the video changes it a good amount and then the compression it goes through upon upload really gives it a whack. It's near impossible to get the right amount of reverb on the vox. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and take care. Mark
I really loved the performance and i came here to see the twin because i am considering buying a double neck so I wanted to get some inside on these beautiful guitars. You nailed the solo note perfect which leads me to the question as to why did you play the intro on the 12 string instead of the 6 string which is where jimmy plays it? Just curious i guess. Rock on dude 🤘
Hey man. I really appreciate the kind words. Initially the song was supposed to be all about the twelve string or the double neck. Once I got into recording I took a step further you're absolutely right? I should have gone back and played all the parts the way they are on the record Or at least plated on the six. Last summer my band did a reunion show. We all flew up to connecticut in practiced for three days. The day before the show I try to hit the high notes on stairway and lost my voice. We played a sold out show to about 2:50 people and it was a lot of fun. But it was personally disappointing that I couldn't sing at all. I have no idea why I told you that story but every time I see a comment on this video. I always think about what would happen if I didn't do that. Lol. Thanks so much for checking out the video I hope you have a great weekend mark
You don't get out much.lol🤣🤣🤣🤣 Your voice is very loud and clear,I enjoyed your singing more to your playing, but leave the 12 string at home,People don't respond to complexity ,they just wanna hear the song, its not about what you play, but how you play, people just wanna have a good night to remember, their not gonna remember any songs you played,or what guitar you used, just keep it simple and have fun, great work on that stairway 😅
I've been doing this for over 30 years, probably 1200 gigs and I couldn't agree with you more KK. One of my students did his first gig ever this past weekend. I told him, people remember the singing, and most people's baseline is really low. He was fine. People dont care about solos and only a few drunk guys that have been playing for about a minute will ask about gear. It's funny, a guy was complaining last week about how the speakers in his hand wired reverb deluxe are voiced. I said Bill, I assure you that nobody has ever commented on my speakers after a show. Tonight is actually a big night for me. After 25 years of teaching, I have my last lesson with a kid ever. I shit you not KK. I've been teaching only adults for the past 5 or so but my neighbor begged me. He just informed me via text that tonight will be her last lesson. I just high fived my wife and said, that's the last one. It would be great to get rid of beginners as well but nobody cares about theory or ear training anymore. Anyhow, thanks for checking it out brother. Be well and take care. Mark

Hey Orville. It's great to hear from you. Please have your son send me a couple of videos if/when he has time. I'm so sorry to hear that you're in the hospital. I hope it's nothing serious. I'm going to be completely offline for the next 9 days but lets try to connect the week after if you're able. Thoughts and prayers your way. take care. Mark

Hate to be the one to bring it up but you're supposed to play the beginning part on the 6 string neck. It still sounded pretty good though.
Especially for a used one.
nice doubleneck
That Harley Benton double neck isn’t bad at all sounds fantastic if you ask me
Nice amplifier. ;)
The 12 strings were too high on treble, but the solo and your voice were amazing !
Mark

Thanks for your response, take care you too Mark !
"Solo" sound absolutle amazing.
Amp, guitar or... ;)
Mark.. magnificent.. do this.. get a female vocalist..record stairway with her in the studio.... Let go and rock it brother..
The beginning is played on the 6 string not the 12. but still really good.
Awesome video as usual. How much does that Harley Benton two neck weigh?
Greetings from Chile, very well done Mark! Loved the Benton BTW! Is it stock or any mods?
Dude.
Video Now.10) I chose this video because Garth and I were in the thumbnail. Party On Garth!!!
I think the guy on the right is better looking. Must be the hat.
#6
Huh! I thought Jimmy started the song on the 6 string neck...
I really don't want to learn stairway because I'll just play it too much and not be able to play anything alse
Mark
🤗 A Very good teacher, indeed, and good luck on that gig tonight😅🔥
