Thanks so much. Without your help I wouldn't have found the release clips and extra screw. Cable repaired after buying a new set of crimp spade connectors (multiple sizes) to ensure I found the correct size. Much appreciated.
Thanks so much for a really clear video. As an engineer I'm always looking for screws to undo. Your sixth sense for finding hidden clips was just what I needed.
Your welcome! Sadly it's hidden clips nowadays. Tiny thin hidden clips behind flush fit thin casings 😂 Sometimes it's sonic welded together for extra fun. It's why I rarely film the first time I've done a cleaner, as it'd be 25 minutes if gently prying and levering and hunting hidden screws before making sense of it 😂
well thank you very much for taking time to upload the video on how to get access to the damn switch , as it turned out when i finally could test the lead from end to end it was the manufactured plug on the other end lol, but i couldnt test the lead before getting access to rule out the switch TOP TIP FOLKS the factory plug on mine looked fine but had no continuity from live pin down lead ,and no the fuse was fine............ always worth buying a new plug to fit and cut off the first few inches of the cable
just fixed ours for the same problem, cut off about two feet from the plug end, fitted new plug and away we went, live had fractured and burnt through, vid was most helpful, thanks.
Thank you so much for this , I managed to repair the cable on my Vax, would have struggled dismantling my vacuum without this great walkthrough repair video.
Worked a treat thanks for sharing. Only problem I had was having to buy a 520 piece crimp connector set as I didn’t have any :-) still cheaper than new hoover !
Useful video, it would be handy if you showed what you were doing off the camera. I have a loose brown wire coming from the brush button but cant see where its come out of
Another thing I was going to ask you was when I'm hoovering on my VAX air cylinder hoover I keep getting this continuous squeak and I don't know how to get rid of it please. Many thanks mate!!
Thanks for a great video. I got my Vax stripped down, but then I realised I needed some crimps, which I've never used before. Please could you tell me what I need (size and so on)? Many thanks.
I just can't watch other people handling sharp objects. I've got to remember to talk to my therapist about that at our next session. Meanwhile, a great trick for cleaning brush rolls: a seam ripper. Please be kind to me and use one. Grateful for little mercies, Ontopof
G ood video and very clear, but you didn't have your camera high enough at times and I couldn't see what you were doing. But I managed to do it thanks.
thanks for video helpful to show how to get into the switches i didnt want to wreck my own one by prizing them open. There doesnt seem to be any gripping of the cable where it enters the housing on these ( the rubber gland thing is loose its not moulded on to the cable ) so eventually the spade terminals get yanked loose from the power switch especially if kids are prone to dragging it around by the cable like a pet pony. to other commenters that might be the issue if you have internittent or no power .
Hi sam i asked you before about the caps you gave me a link for ebay but i did not ask what size cap i would need would it be small 1mm-1.75mm, medium 1mm-2.5mm, large 2mm-5.5mm thanks for all your help.
I have one of these a U85-AS-PME the red light has come on but the brushbar is not blocked. The metal roller is not turning even when the belt / brushbar is removed. I can't see a manual reset nor an easy way to get into the mech to see what's going on. There are about 5 screws but the cover doesn't come apart easily.
My vax machines the revive orange one wire at the bottom is broke I think or loose it’s working but when pulled down or goes a certain way it will turn off I move it and it goes back on what should I do can I fix this
Hey, I have a Vax Air pets and family U89-MA-PFe, the brush bar stopped spinning recently and the red light indicating that the brush is block is on instead of green light. I have removed all hairs from the brush bar and tried replacing the belt but no success. The reset button also doesn't work, do you have any advise or tips on what needs to be done or what the issue could be? Thanks in advance!!
Your videos are a inspiration 😊. I need your help as well and my air VAX upright cylinder hoover mains switch remains stuck and won't go up or down to turn on or off and I noticed that there's a purple long piece of plastic which is very thin but is it the spring or the whole switch itself I need to replace?
Eeek, sounds like your switch button is broken rather than the switch itself. If your lucky, you might be able to take it apart and whatever snapped off isn't critical and it all works happily ever after, or Q-Bond might stick it together if it's not a tensioned item. Or bodge it and hot glue a pencil to the tip of the switch and use that with the machine back together! (put the model number into ebay and I expect you'll find a breaker/switch cover)
Hi there got a vax air total home red and silver started having trouble with the lead i have to move the lead at the hoover switch to get it to work when it feel's like it not sure what type of lead i will need on the video looks like your cable only has two wires if so is this just a standard cable many thanks for your help and video
Hi. It sounds like the lead from your description, you can buy flex with a moulded plug already supplied to save having to wire one up. The white crimps are these ones, you can use pliers to close them up as long as you make sure they've crimped on correctly rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F323604785667
Alright mate my Mac air reach stopped working yesterday no burning smell from motor, just switched it off to answer the door and when I came back and switched it on nothing, changed the fuse but that didn’t work do you think the motor has given up the ghost? Any help would be much appreciated
there not really classed as amps rating its indicating cable sizing e.g. red are 1.5 mm cable /blue are 2.5 mm cable and yellow is 4-6mm cable , a yellow terminal connector will handle the ampage of a 820w motor no problem seeing as the original cable looks to be 0.75-1.0 mm csa (to be fair he should have used a red spade connector for a more snug fit
Please can you help me with my Vax Air mach, it was going but intermittently when i put the handle up and down...but now it doesnt come on at all. Is there a switch inside to turn the machine on once you have the handle at an angle? if so how do i access it....please?
There's a switch or the possibility of broken wires. Undoing all the screws underneath then lifting off the top cover accesses everything, hopefully a good clean out/re seat will fix it for you!
Used on ebay, or buy a vacuum broken in some other way and swap the parts over is probably the only way I'm afraid. Unless vax lost it in their website, but they don't always
I have one thats identical to this one and im suffering from the same problem but with the help of this video i might do the cautious thing by atttemping to have ago.
Good luck! The actual cable replacement isn't too bad, worse case, you can chop the old cable off inside the machine with enough slack to use a choc bloc to hold the new cable on, just run the new cable through the cord clamp. It's getting to that stage that's a sod!
Yes, they are all very similar, the pain in the arse ones are the ones where the cord goes straight into the motor housing, luckily they haven't done that for a few years now I don't think! The cables are such poor quality on them
Another thing I was going to ask you was when I'm hoovering on my VAX air cylinder hoover I keep getting this continuous squeak and I don't know how to get rid of it please. Many thanks mate!!
This very cleaner used to squeal it's flipping nuts off in much the same way. Never bothered it or made itself apparent with dust leakage or something. Run it with the cyclone off, is the noise there? Then keeping it on, fit the bin. Noise come back? Hunting down and wiping clean ever rubber seal and corresponding mating face helps, but it comes back after a while. My mum never used to notice so I never drew her attention to it...

I come back to your video to refresh my memory every time I need to change the cable. Thanks so much!

Thank you for the great video. I've just fixed the faulty cord on my vax. I would never have found the hidden screw without it. Thanks 👍👍
Provided necessary confidence for a bit of strong arming, thanks so much!
Top man. New power switch and cable and mother's Vax is now back to life! Cheers dude.
just fixed ours for the same problem, cut off about two feet from the plug end, fitted new plug and away we went, live had fractured and burnt through, vid was most helpful, thanks.
Brilliant little video, managed to access loose spade connector and fix. Thank you 👍
Thank you so much for this , I managed to repair the cable on my Vax, would have struggled dismantling my vacuum without this great walkthrough repair video.
Great video Sam- lots of top tips and top work ad always- vax aren't too bad when they're maintained well!

Good job on this magnificent vax air Sam. Sounds like you've got a squeak in henry. Lol.
Thanks for a great video,...helped me repair the broken cable on my Vax Hoover
Thanks very much as my hoover is working now. God bless you Sir

I don't have any visible damage on the cable and it stopped this morning. I changed the fuse too. Any advice how to find the problem?
Huge faults with the cables. I’ve had pretty much 10 vaxes with broken cables at the machine end. Easy £25 20 minute change and service.
Exactly, you cant knock it too much!
Thanks for showing me how to uncover the on/switch. Shame I can't seem to source one 😒

Could be the switch? Usually motors don't just stop working (unless a carbon brush has stuck), they usually go out in a blaze of glory (and fire)
Still unsure how to connect the new cable to the cables in the vacuum. Do I need an attachment?
You'll need joiner crimps and a crimper to do it
Excellent video.
if the brush not work how chake it please
What amp is the yellow clip on the brown cable you replaced

Thanks heaps, ma man.
Where can I get the cable cleat and the clamp?
A scrap machine or make your own... Vax don't sell the parts individually. Might find them on ebay 🤔
Thanks, this was very helpful
in my vax air the brush is stop how i chak it
anyone know where i can get a new roller for a vax airlift hoover ty , cant find 1 anywhere
Used on ebay, or buy a vacuum broken in some other way and swap the parts over is probably the only way I'm afraid. Unless vax lost it in their website, but they don't always
Didn't you star in that film, the hills have eyes?
I've starred in many films, not always with a credited role though! (random scary man #4 etc)
tony you one fecking rude tw4t, everyone lelse here thanked the man for helping out , you slate him on apperance ,lets hope your a catwalk model huh

Ah what? so I could have sorted one of these after all.
I have done lots of them once you have done one there a peace of piss good job any way sam
Yes, they are all very similar, the pain in the arse ones are the ones where the cord goes straight into the motor housing, luckily they haven't done that for a few years now I don't think! The cables are such poor quality on them
Why didnt you just use the cable from that broken 6131 you got?
Crikey that's long gone! Used that cable for something, can't remember what now though...
Vax air reach is fixed
couldnt see a thing, all the wiring you did without the camera being on the job!!!!
Thanks you so much!
Fixed my VAX 👍😁. So proud of myself 😎😀
