  • During AFib Awareness Month, Dr. Brett Gidney gave a sneak peak into his EP lab and reviewed the catheter ablation procedure via Facebook Live on Facebook.com/GetSmartAboutAFib. Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) is the most common type of cardiac arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat. Rate and rhythm control medications are often a first course of action in managing AFib. If you don’t respond to or can’t tolerate drug therapy for AFib, catheter ablation may be recommended to treat your arrhythmia. Catheter ablation is a noninvasive procedure that uses a thin bendable wire called a therapeutic catheter. This catheter is placed through your vein and into your heart where the electrical impulses of your heart can be studied and treated. For more information, visit GetSmartAboutAfib.com.
