Nice job coaching the boat captain in on his first time backing in to the slip. Longboat Key is a great place to stopover cruising to the Bahamas out of Panama City FL during my sailing days on a Morgan 32
Great job instructor - looks like the captain is well on his way. One of the most exciting aspects of boating - no two outings are ever the same. Keeps it interesting and fun
Excellent job of instructing Captain. I know what you are talking about feeling what the weather and the boat is doing. I truly believe some people have the touch and some don't i tried for years when I was boating to teach my father the feel of what the boat and the weather was doing he never could get it my mother would not go out without me driving the boat LOL she didn't like my father driving the boat she said i was much better at it than he was. LOL.
nashguy207 thanks for sharing. Your experience (or shall I say your folks experience) is not all that uncommon. Some have a better feel for it but practice can only help!
Great video. The way it was explained to me (by the captain at marinemax when i picked up my boat) and it just clicked was. Center the rudders and then forget you even have wheel. ... Then just operate the boat the way you would a loaded and heavy shopping cart. Everyone has pushed / maneuvered a loaded shopping cart around a supermarket or home depot / lowes. Since that little lesson docking and even tying up to another boat at anchorage on a windy day as the anchored boat was swinging hasn't really been a problem.
Excellent docking, looked like prime conditions tho, smooth water and little or no wind. We know that once you throw in one or both of those variables, things can be more difficult. Really like your instructional video's!
gjm666 thanks for watching and for your comments. Everyone SHOULD start their practice of anything new in prime conditions. Then build in adverse conditions after mastering basic fundamentals. We believe that having muscle memory of how to shift, for instance, will allow a new boater to better deal with additional wind or current. But if we start with either strong winds or current and the new boater has yet to understand how the boat responds to simple gear shifting...well, that’s just asking for a less than optimal experience. 👍🏼
WHOEVER IS THE CAPTAIN, HE THINKS WAY TOO SLOW AND MOVES EVEN SLOWER. HONESTLY, NEVER SEEN A GUY REACT SLOWER, WHOEVER WAS CALLING THE MOVES, FANTASTIC JOB ‼️🛳 Vinny 🇺🇸
A new boat owner was at the helm. (Did I say NEW boat owner?) He hired me to coach him with his first big cruising boat. Lots to learn and we all learn differently. Thanks for watching.
Good morning, Captain! I just discovered your channel and going through all your videos. Great stuff! Other than your guidance, did he just single-hand dock that boat? Thanks!
Yes, this is the type of training we offer. Docking, anchoring and other boat owner skills. We promote having your docklines secured to the boat and then back into the slip. Easy to grab a line to secure the boat. Of course the fenders are deployed too. Single handing takes a little more preparation but it works for a crew of two also. Check our website www.CaptainChrisYachtServices.com
Very informative you made it looks easy. I hope when I purchase my 40 ft in a few years here in California that I can find a captain like you to teach me.😎
rjshather I travel wherever you and your boat are. Thanks for watching. Come join us in Florida for a 2-day seminar that will prepare you as you search for the perfect boat. www.captainchrisshipstore.com/
Robert Frost yes. This client wanted to learn to cruise on his own. He first came to our 2-day seminars - Cruising 101 and Introduction to Boat Systems. Then he allowed me to coach him on what boats would work best for single hand boating. After purchase, I joined him two different times for two day sessions. This allowed for some practice in between. 👍🏼
Some people take a bit longer to process directions when learning something new. Easy to become overwhelmed if you didn’t grow up on boats. Good thing he knew enough to hire a professional trainer, right? So we cut em some slack.

myvalium1 you bet! It sure can get exciting. 😎
Very impressive.
Nicely done, bringing that 453 in. She does control nicely with those big props.
Chris Potter all it takes is practice. 👍🏼
Your best docking video ever.
Larry Belt thanks! And we did this with no deckhand. 👍🏼
@@AskCaptainChris Solo docking is good pratice idea, some of us would be mostly solo, and sometimes you never know when you will be solo.
Robert Frost prepare for the worst case scenario and hopefully you’ll never need it.
Great instructions. I couldn’t agree more with all of your tips. Thinking five seconds ahead is very helpful. ;)
Tommy Watters thanks for watching. Appreciate your kind words.

That’s one way we teach. We each learn differently and once we find the visual that works: practice!! Practice until it becomes muscle memory.
Nice job captain
Celal thanks for watching.
Nice instruction on backing in, it definitely isn't as easy as some make it to be.
Mike Ramsey thanks. A bit of practice helps.

Wow! Great !
Great Job Capt Chris, you are an amazing teacher. What's the length of the yacht?
Eugene Hill I’m thinking this was 47 feet.
Correction this is a Silverton 453. So 45 feet.
@@AskCaptainChris Great guidance Capt👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Time to put backup cameras on big ass boats .. along with competent help
You only get competent with practice.

Looks fantastic ~ Was this just you instructing and a solo captain ? There has to be special instructions for single handed docking and undocking.

What is undocking?
Undocking- the present participle of undock: To move away from a dock.
F’N listen will ya!
