Whatsapp does seem to get better lately! I'm sure more of us doing this method in the video helps them even more. I did notice a new wave of spam coming this week too. But I have no doubt it'll be gone soon too. You just reminded me to report one I got a couple days ago!
I got a message from a random number and I was so scared for a while. There wasnt a link but it was like a file they sent. I went into the chat but did not open the file. Im safe right? I blocked them right after that
Yeah opening the chat is fine. I open the chats myself just to block them and never ran into issues.

I swear... it's evil. and annoying, but reporting them, minimizes for me at least. Another thing?! how they can get my number from facebook? I'm not showing it to anyone.
Our number have to be public records somewhere. But I haven't gotten any spam lately. They seem to add improvements in the recent updates.

Yeah I already have all my settings set to just contacts only. It doesn't help.
Ever since I got my new number a few months ago I've been getting random messages from "females" every day. They always appear as female and it's 3 or 4 or more of them a day. And not just from Whatsapp. The default Message app from the phone, phone calls. They try to video call me.
I'm about to change my number and I sure asf ain't paying for it. I never even wanted to change my number to begin with but my mother found it was cheaper or something so now I'm being harassed. I never had this issue with my old number so I'm convinced this new number is on a spam list.
Sorry to hear that... I hate how these companies just reuse numbers nowadays.

No, the only way they can access your phone is if you selected any links (that would take you to a website or another app normally).

Only if you opened links from spam numbers. Besides that everyone gets them no matter the number. I can say, after I did these steps myself I haven't gotten any spam messages in a long time.

@@dpirate I've still got pictures appearing in my photo album from wattsapp but I have removed all the strange contacts I had on WhatsApp. I've changed settings to only contact as well. But how do I stop pictures appearing on my album ? Appreciate your help already. 👍
