Thanks! I do have a pretty technical background: I have a masters degree in mechanical engineering, my normal "day" job is running product development teams for hardware and software, and I make large-scale kinetic art on the side. I haven't built a house before, though, so I've been spending all of my free time trying to learn everything I can in order to do as much of it myself as possible! Will make a lot of mistakes on the way, for sure, but I enjoy learning and know I'll be more satisfied in the end if I put my own sweat into it. Stay tuned and I hope you end up enjoying the upcoming episodes!

We built our rural off grid home in another state and didn't have to have any plan checks, permitting, site plans, surveys, no earth quakes, set backs, and protections for trees. There was no restrictions. Sure glad we left California years ago. Best of luck.
