    I have been thinking of a Prius, but I can't abide the design - it looks like it's already been crashed. The Corolla looks more normal, great review.

    The Corolla originated in Japan and is of course sold in Japan as well. When comparing the overseas specifications and the Japanese domestic specifications, the latest Corolla has some differences in grade and appearance, but in fact the dimensions are different between the overseas specifications and the Japanese domestic specifications. This European touring wagon has a total length of 4650 mm, a total width of 1790 mm and a total height of 1435 mm. On the other hand, the domestic specifications in Japan are slightly shorter, with a total length of 4495 mm, a total width of 1745 mm, and a total height of 1460 mm. why? This is because we are considering ease of use in Japan. Roads are often narrow in Japan, but due to housing conditions, parking space is limited compared to overseas. I don't know about the UK, but in Japan you have to park your car and make sure you have a place to apply before you buy. Of course, if you have to park outside the premises of your home, you have to pay a monthly fee. In Japan, you cannot park on the road in front of your house every day. You will have to pay a fine for parking violations. If you get the chance, take a look at "Parking in Japan" on Google Street View. And again, don't you think it's rare in the world that the same Corolla has different dimensions?

      Thanks for detailing some of the differences between Japanese and European models. The Japanese model is available with the Hybrid all wheel drive system which is strangely absent in Europe despite the preponderance of inclement weather in Northern Europe. If I am not mistaken, the 2.0 liter Hybrid powertrain is not sold in Japan. As a Canadian, I am confident the very practical Corolla wagon would be more popular than the somewhat cramped hatchback version. Sadly, Toyota refuses to sell it in our market. The popular theory is that Toyota wants to force consumers to spend more money on a RAV4. Ideally an AWD Corolla in the larger European dimension would suit us best.

      @@rightlanehog3151 Thank you for your reply. Are you from Canada? Touring wagons are not sold in North America. It will be Toyota's decision on the North American market. Japan is said to be a slightly special market compared to overseas. In Japan, three models are sold in the Corolla series, but more than 80% are hatchbacks and touring wagons, and less than 20% are sedans. Sedan is not popular in Japan today. Consumers are now only buying compact cars, minivans, SUVs and light vehicles that are unique to the Japanese market. Manufacturers are also reducing the number of sedan models. Models exclusively for Japan are still on sale, but only the Corolla, Camry and Crown. * These English sentences are finished using Google Translate. There may be expressions that do not convey well to you and are misleading. In that case, please forgive me.

      @@jamespn We love wagons here in Canada but have lost most of them due to the overlap with the American market. We had the Prius V, Venza and Matrix on sale here for an extra model year because they sold so much better on our side of the border. This Corolla wagon has been in production in England for less than a year and sales/production of a slightly smaller version just started in Japan. We know they would sell here but the question is whether Toyota will bring them over or force everyone into a compromise with a RAV4 Hybrid or Prius. BTW Japan gets an AWD Corolla Hybrid wagon with the same drive train that is offered on the Prius. I suppose there would be no harm in writing to Toyota USA to express interest in this version of the Corolla.

    Toyota of North America has made some headscratching decisions the past few years. As things are, leaving the Corolla wagon in Europe + JDM isn't one of them. The Corolla wagon would have been a competitor against Rav4 hybrid CUV on same showfloor. IF, however, the Prius had moved to plug-in or pure electric with last redesign, THAT could have opened the door to the Corolla hybrid sedan, hatch, wagon (with the AWD 7hp rear axle motor option 😍) replacing Prius C (aka "Aqua" in JDM) and Prius V in NA market

      Yes but mpg is down to driver and road conditions. I get 58 mpg from my 2006 Prius but between 70 and 78 when I hire the latest Prius. As stated that 2.0 won't be as good as the 1.8 but I suspect it would give me about 65 mpg.

      It is basically the old Prius. Same hybrid train, ICE and transmission ( with an added launch gear ) at much lower price-points, better kit, on-road handling and safety features. Win-win all-round.

    • @aacmove

      In Europe about 42% of people (like me) live in apartments. Until every car park (mine is shared public), and roadside parking space has electric charging, the majority of us will not be able to make the switch to electric. That is the cold hard fact of future EV ownership. And, at the pace we are going, I don't see that happening in the next 10 years.
      BTW where have to park near my home there are 500 spaces and only about 6 charging points, which hasn't changed in about 7 years.

    • @JohnKellett_kreativarchitects
      @JohnKellett_kreativarchitects 5 лет назад +3

      Barry Tse , a Toyota ‘hybrid’ uses petrol or diesel most of the time. The ‘electricity’ used is generated from the energy provided by an ICE. The fact that my diesel car has done over 50 mpg for over 200,000 miles means it uses less fuel that many ‘hybrids’, and therefore less polluting than a ‘hybrid’. You have been conned by the power of Toyota’s marketing :-) When my car needs replacing it will be replaced by an EV that uses NO petrol or diesel.

    • @itheus
      @itheus 5 лет назад +9

      John Kellett first i do not think there is a toyota that uses diesel hybrid in the uk. Secondly i am talking about emissions not MPG/fuel consumption. Using less fuel/Less MPG does not equate to less emission/pollution.
      Hybrid technology allows you to recycle energy so as far as i am concerned it results in less emission.
      I dunno who is conning who, but even EV car is equipped with hybrid technology.

    • @JohnKellett_kreativarchitects
      @JohnKellett_kreativarchitects 5 лет назад +1

      Barry Tse , but only LESS emissions than petrol or diesel (petrol cars pollute with CO and other pollutants). EVs virtually no polluting emissions in use and can be virtually none through generation of ‘renewables’. Even the possess of making EVs can be less polluting than ICEd cars with batteries than be used and recycled for decades. ‘Hybrid’ are a very short-term marketing con to allow car manufacturers to continue to use the expensive engine manufacturing factories they have built. Diesel power emits less CO2 than petrol petrol.

    I do not understand in 2020 someone still recommend Diesel on cars. Diesel is only suitable for Truck and Locomotive. With the emission regulations, Diesel is choked to death although it was really good before headache from DPF filter, NOx cat. with urea injections, EGR valves, etc. was required. In small car, it is way too noisy and smelly. Diesel is death in Cars application. For the money, nothing beat Hybrid with Toyota base designs that is really reliable and proven. Others like Honda, Hyundai, and Benz used stupid transmission design for their hybrid and proven to be the weak points. Because others cannot make super reliable e-CVT with All gears (no belt) and evolve from the past 20 years.

    • @rondhole
      @rondhole 4 года назад

      @Jinn Genie I know why no more diesel for small cars in England in the next few years. The are all indeed death by nature. Diesel is for heavy trucks, SUV, or Land cruiser in war zone. Only recently Honda change their transmission in hybrid, not belt-cvt anymore like Benz. But in Benz, other parts always fall apart and check engine light as bright as Christmas tree.

    • @rondhole
      @rondhole 4 года назад

      @Jinn Genie Because naturally, Diesel is adiabatic/explosion process, high temperature produces a lot of NOx and SOx, stink and noxious. With gasoline hybrid, you get the same efficiency on the highway and much better in the city. Full EV has problems with range and for large companies like Toyota, VW, or Ford that make millions of cars, it is Greener to make 50 hybrid cars than just 1 EV car for the same amount of battery and only few can afford. Tesla is a replacement for luxury like E-class Benz or 5-series BMW, not Diesel Astra.

    • @rondhole
      @rondhole 4 года назад

      @Jinn Genie suck it up, Diesel is dying. Even in Germany, where most diesels were produced. People won't buy Diesel except for some old minded germans. Used diesel cars have no value and no one buy it even at a lower price than the gasoline version even it was more expensive when it was new. I am sure in 10 more years, hybrid cars will be more common than diesel and maybe more than Turbo 3 or 4 cylinders unreliable engines. Most Toyota hybrid lives without issue for more than 15 years, even the hybrid battery has 15 years warranty in UK/Ireland with unlimited miles. Don't expect any European cars have such a solid warranty. No European cars are even close in terms of solidness and reliability. These days, even only upper trim VW Golf can compete with Corolla, the rest are using primitive torsion beam suspension.
      180 HP hybrid is more than enough for compact cars, there is no primitive turbo gasoline or Diesel match that power with the same efficiency. Toyota makes some turbo like UN officials vehicle, Land cruiser Diesel for warzone.
      Most VW, Benz, BMW, Fiat diesel are so finicky, something off, the limp mode is triggered, Very annoying and still unacceptably stinky smell. I bike2work and passing diesel cars is the most hatted situation.

      @craig mitchell pillred This is my main concern with full EVs, I live in a terraced house with no allocated space to park my car, this is the same situation for many people, particularly in urban areas.
      It's these urban areas that an EV makes the most sense & yet the infrastructure isn't there to make best use of current EV technology.
      This is where hybrids make more sense, you have much lower emissions than a regular ICE car but you can also travel with electric mode for slower speed journeys.
