I like the intro, and have a lot of love for O&G's armies of infamy. They're pretty dope in this set :) Great looking nomadic Waaaagh. Really fund dashing around the map and being a menace, and IMO boar boys are the best heavy cavalry (AKA the best unit?) in the game.
I am fearful that that mechanic of placing two units on top of each other, thus obliging a charger to charge both. That's a very significant discovery in my view, I'd not thought of that before. But this has all sorts of deeply corrupt implications. E.g. Duke and Green Knight place on top of each other to ensure incoming foe has to do multi charge. Double dragons land perpendicular to oblige charge on both. This makes powerful heroes even better as they can place next to vulnerable targets to ensure that if they are charged, they join in. On the charge rule there is of course no option to move further to ensure contact with only one target rather than two standing on top of each other. It simply has to be closest route, and if that brings target into double contact, then so far as I can tell that does indeed oblige a double charge. The abolition of the 1 inch rule for final unit place was absolute folly in my view and we are only beginning to understand its perverse implications.
It won't always work, for example if a unit is wheeling to make a charge and runs out of movement to maximise. Or if the base size is smaller (so a hero on a 40mm or smaller base might not have to charge both giants)
Yes the only reason you can wheel is to bring more models into base to base. I don’t think it should be played like that personally as if there was an obstacle (or enemy unit) which was partially in the way you would wheel around it to charge your target. It’s one of those things that is too niche to be faqd and won’t come up for most people.
@@d6wounds I think it's potentially a very big discovery because the most competitive players will deliberately play for it once they realise it. Two characters together, or a monster and a character, will be able to mutually defend each other by placing beside each other. Certainly my Monster slayer Duke is very interested in this, and has announced he will be landing in precisely these places!
@@DrBlaxill Off topic, but have you seen the Chaos release? I think we briefly discussed before what we didn't really want to see and as it turns out there doesn't appear to be anything to worry those of us with our old-fashioned collectors' hats on. At least not so far...
@@ClydeMillerWynant Yes I observed this- no rereleases of the old champions of chaos! In fact, rather a damp squib model wise- nothing new whatsoever, and also nothing old! I hope we see skullcrushers supported in the AJ, but that seems unlikely from what they've said. However it is intriguing they are delving into Storm of Magic and Monstrous Arcanum to fish out Giant Chaos Spawn, Warpfire Dragon, and maybe Skin Wolves. More monster focus I suspect... I think Chaos could really do with a change up, there are certain things which are so much better than other things in the existing list that the games are getting dull (forsaken, dragon ogres, dog lines, and heroes are the entirety of what I am fielding competitively- and it's getting boring...!)
Really good report as ever, you do an excellent job of explaining what you're trying to do, mistakes you've made etc. I won't tire of seeing the Boarboyz, but it would be great if you do manage to show us some Dwarf stuff too! Would it be unfair to suggest that the Wyvern maybe got you out of jail a bit in this game? Think with only a small amount of assistance he accounted for two giants, Oggdruz and a unit of trolls. Felt like he made up for things going a bit wrong elsewhere and a fair chunk of his success involved a fight you didn't really seem to want to put him in.
Thank you. O yes the warboss with ogre blade was definitely the mvp. Every list needs something with multi wound capability, in my opinion, to deal with monstrous units. The dwarfs are work in progress. I’m not sure how I want to play them in OW yet!
Very good batrep. I'm 100% stealing this list, looks like lots of fun. Have you considered bunching the wolf chariots together into a unit? I can't say I've run them, but it seems like it's not a very strong unit to be left on its own.
Thanks. The advantage of having the chariots separate is so they can be used as throwaway chaff. They also don’t panic each other as they are unit strength 3. If they were in one unit and one dies to shooting then the others would run away.
@@pabloalonsolasagabaster658 Its Old World. In 8th Chaos Warriors can take trolls as core if they use Throgg the troll king so thats probably the closest!
@@pabloalonsolasagabaster658 Both armies in this game come from lists in what's called an 'Arcane Journal'. It's a bit like an old WFB army book, but because you've already got the main 'Grand Army' list in a separate book (Ravening Hordes which has the main lists for all the 'evil' factions) the lists in it are sort of specialist ones. Each faction gets two in it's Arcane Journal though not all of them have been released yet by any means. The stars perhaps aligned a bit for one of the Orc and Goblin ones to be a troll army. Old World is based around old models and some that have definitely stood the test of time and lots of people would be keen to buy are the old Stone and River Trolls. The Troll Hag is of course more recent but was also something most people probably wouldn't have so an easy sell. The main Orc and Goblin list also gives so much choice (arguably it maybe isn't restrictive enough) that some more obvious things like a Night Goblin army can be done from that anyway. As you can see from this battle the lists do look to be quite a lot of fun. The main list is good too, perhaps the only downside of them viewed as a whole is that there's very little incentive for anyone to run any standard Orcs or Goblins other than Boarboyz, Chariots and maybe War Machines.
Nice battle report. During overruns, pursues and flee, you are not flying in this edition. Unless they FAQ it you cannot go over a unit. either way you didn’t clear it.
It was a fun game!
Forgive the partial paint -much progress has been made since then
Excellent report. Subscribed. Hoping to see these very often from you
Cheers, glad you like it 🤙

Cheers! Yes I agree boar boyz best cav in the game for their points.
Great batrep without having seen the troll horde in action I assumed the nomadic waagh was going to be toast. Actually looked like a great battle.
O yea two fast close combat armies with no shooting is always carnage
Great battle. Nice tactical knowledge abs ability to relay it
Troll hags are point graves, having two is a flex or a bad decision XD
Not easy to kill though…

Could you in theory have counter charged the trolls because they’re monstrous
No because they come under the ‘infantry’ category. You can counter charge monstrous cavalry however.

Have you got the rule reference for that? We looked through flying, overrun, pursuit etc and couldn't see anything to stop it!

Pretty sure you can. Says to use fly as your movement now
