I stumbled across this video and was drawn in. I had done a ground up restore on a smaller boat, and I just bought a SR250 Sundancer, which thankfully doesn't need this kind of work. Was really hoping to see this project as it progressed. Six years later it looks like it must have lost momentum and fizzled out. Too bad, it would have been an amazing transition.
I know this is an old video but Rule #1 - Never buy a boat that’s not running. You won’t know what other hidden issues might be present. I see at least $10000 grand worth of work for a boat that at best will be worth $8000. The dashboard should have been the deal killer. Just finding the original pieces in good shape is going to be a task. An engine on the low end you’d be lucky to get for $2K for a used runner, the outdrive will run $1k, the gimbal another grand, the miscellaneous controls, another grand. This is assuming you’re doing the work yourself. Upholstery is expensive - I just paid $200 to have my bench done and that’s in one color. The only way this would work is to find the same wrecked or rotten boat for very cheap and swap everything over, with the knowledge that this boat isn’t itself, wet.
Free? That's a steal😂 i love restoring the big cruisers
Looks like a friends boat that he stored and forgot..lol I'm thinking about buying it and follow your progress

I am looking forward to following your project. Take lots of video if you can. Were you able to inspect the transom and stringers?
Did you ever finish. would love to see a updated video.

Did it ever get finished?
We'll see if you do anything we can follow...
I see a divorce coming soon......
