G'day ACG, Tim the audio lead from Broken Roads here. Thanks so much for your honest review of the game mate. We at Drop Bear Bytes are taking all critical feedback seriously and will patch ASAP to get any bugs encountered fixed. We will also be patching in more VO, sadly limited resources meant that VO had to be pushed to the back of the pipeline and I'm a one man audio team, so I've been playing catch up with the VO integration but much more is coming. The game won't be fully voiced as there is so much dialog and our resources simply can't accommodate it but I truly hope with the incoming fixes we can give you a better experience. Cheers again mate!
Hey, are you looking to hire more audio engineers to the team?
@@CSGrayScale G'day thanks for reaching out. Not at this stage no, but in the future who knows, so if you want you can contact us through our website mate
@@sundaysunday9718 No drama mate, 'preciate the quick reply!
Thanks for taking criticism constructively!
This is a golden example of how to interact with the gaming community/critics/customers/potential customers. Other games could learn a lot from this. I will be buying this game, but when I buy it now I have the added feeling that I'm supporting good people rather than giving my money to a house of snakes.
Just, thank you for telling the truth. I'm having a hard time finding reviewers who will bring up any negatives lately. Appreciate a reviewer on the side of gamers, instead of developers. If that means eventually having to buy your own copy of the game, at least you can sleep at night.
This game has really rough reviews though - 58 at metacritic, which is the worst number I've seen for a game I was excited about EVER.
@@aVataR_ehyeh Oh? I hadn't researched it that thoroughly yet, I'd just listened to Mortismal's review, which was much more glowing and seemed to gloss over the problems a little more.
Isn't a broken road inherently rough?
Did sweetbabyinc have a hand in this?
Like many, I feel it would be more realistic to let the player jump between philosophies or moralities in the dialog choices. Being a full Humanist should not stop you, like in real life, to sometimes make a Machiavellian decision. This cool Moral Compass system becomes less cool, and criticised in negative reviews, when it serves to limit options (the passive penalty would be less Moral perks for example or some more radical choices being locked-out).
This is an indie crpg, not being fully voiced doesn't bother me whatsoever. It also having bugs is no surprise to me, BG3 is still gettiny biweekly bug fixes with a thousand times the budget.
Mortismal Gaming said he was able to fix settings for resolution and get it running quite easily on his Steam Deck.
So? The criticism still stands.
Is this the Australian game that was supposed to be like Disco Elysium? Or am I mistaking it for something else?
No it's this one
Thanks! I don't know how I feel about this. Was hoping for a different game I think.
waiting for a game like disco, is like waiting for a tv show like breaking bad.
@@JRheustop waiting and just go read books, it’s the same thing as playing DE
@@adamjensen2304 This is genuinely a good advice, except for the amazing voice over of Disco Elysium which doesn't exist in book form, and even not really replicable in audiobook form.
Thanks for breaking this down. Looked interesting, but worried it would need more time in the oven, like you seem to indicate. Hoping it comes back around later.
Disappointed to hear this has spell casting in it. Watched a few previews and I don’t recall that ever being mentioned.
Yikes, seems Ralph from Skill Up not going to be happy about this...
But oh well, nothing can be perfect. It may had been delayed, but I guess its not enough to iron out the issues they had.
Why😂 because he's Aussie......damn you need to get out more
@@ProjectEve-xxx Given that they release a video and recommending this game before it came out, I guess it kind of sucks to see an Australian game he was hoping for end up with plenty of rough patches.
Tho not sure why you have to add that last bit, kind of unnecessary don't you think?
@@ProjectEve-xxx Because he's been on about it since it was first mentioned?
This is 100 percent a Early access game that was released as a full product 😅
I have been hoping you would review this one! Thanks for your valued take on it!
One negative review (Steam) claims (and it is believable) that some dialog/story options are not truly accepted as they then railroad you (force you) to accept an important story path (main quest), so some options may be illusions of choice of course. Many players might not notice or just adapt, or accept that not all options are viable. Still, many claim the choice/consequence design is weak. I do not know how true that is. I still bought it to support the studio and I will have fun with it, accepting its limits.
Thanks for this review. I've been looking forward to this game for a while.
I’ll definitely pick this up, but it maybe be a few months
as always love your videos. here is the comment for the algorithm
Are there any options to switch on line of sight indicators? Something like battletech utilizes may help with the tree blocking enemy issue
I think its a lack luster game. Combat is bland and unexciting, the story doesn't really pull me in.
It's not every day I see a homegrown game like Broken Roads, and yet in it's current state I can't excuse buying it just to see how it plays. Who knows? Maybe in a few months, the devs will add more content, expand on old stuff and iron out the bugs. But it's a shame. I've been looking for more post-apocalyptic CRPGs lately, and I've already played ATOM RPG and Wasteland 2/3!
ooof. I heard it was a little bit longwinded and now the bugs galore.
Well, I was gonna wait anyway so let's see how it evolves with patches
I love you called out the Horizontal Stripes trend.
Look interesting-like the art style
'Planet Crafter' next please!
Hehe, everybody knows that kind of DM who just wants to kill the entire party... 😂😂😂
Always here for more CRPG coverage
To only have the characters talk every once in a while is how old games like BG1-2 and tons of other RPG's were made back in the day. It's like that so at least you get an impression of what the person sounds like and you can do the rest of the reading with that particular voice in your head, works really well.
Reminds me of ATOM RPG
You always tell it like it is and a lot of people appreciate that.
ah well, wait for patches and a sale I guess.
I'm 25 hours in and loving it. If you like cRPGs, there's a lot to like here. Especially when the story picks up after your first two hours!!
Another fantastic review filled with expert wordsmithing. Well done my man!
Looks like a knockoff Wasteland
Wasteland but styled after Disco Elysium
iv been waiting for this game

This looks like a mobile game i would recomend a wait for sale
1000th like mhwhahaha
TBH this game looks like 'DEI checklist: The Game', glad it's getting the recognition it deserves.
I can't for the life of me figure out if your comment is supposed to be positive or negative. 😄
Looks sooooo dated.
First! Wooo!
man I so badly want a harry Dresden game just like this set in Chicago and all the places he visits with his huge cast of characters. his stories are literally made to be presented in this game style (an intense CRPG.). this looks amazing to me. just finished wasteland 3 and have been really wanting a new itch to scratch and this looks like it may be it
Keep up the good work Karak. 👍
Not the next Dragon's Dogma 2 then?
Mad max!
Hm seems a bit too combat-heavy. Can such combat encounters only be avoided by fleeing or also through dialogue? Thx!
Solid review as always! Thanks, Karak! God bless and stay safe!
Thanks so much for all your hard work man. I spend a lot of money on games, you are my go to reviewer. Studios have made money off me because of your recommendations so it seems fair you should get a cut!
Thank you so much man and glad I helped!
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
🤣🤣 cut your finger nails review brah
Just save yourself the trouble and play Days Gone instead.
Oh, god no. Not even remotely comparable, btw.
Looks like a game from 2005
Thats actually a compliment. Games from 2005 had way better graphics than Cyberpunk in 2020 had at launch
@@chucknorris8704 No they hadn't.
