The high tension scoring sounds @ 2:05 are great. You can hear it working.
I want one too, for my GardenSurvival😂
Very nice. Thank you for taking us with you on this journey and all the commentary. Do you ever do a coffee etch to finish off?
You bet, thanks! Sometimes I'll do a coffee etch, depends...
What does a coffee etch give you?
@@The1KMnO4 it gives a higher contrast between the etched and unetched steel.
That is a beauty. Are you still doing your mailing list?
Thanks! I haven't lately, once I get more caught up on orders I want to
Missed out on those hawks so I'll have to pay better attention here.
@@nicholaseedy3244 cool, thanks man
Good series, but one question:
I’ve made one successful Damascus blade and have a few more billets in progress, but I found that I needed to sand lightly after the etch to shine up the 15N20, which stands slightly proud of the 1084. You didn’t do that, or at least didn’t cover it, and I’ve not seen anybody do it on instructional videos.
I’d this just one of those things that is assumed, or do you really not touch it after the etch? In particular I tried the coffee darkening after the etch and in both cases, I found that the 15N20 was brighter but not super bright and requires some highlighting.
Can you comment on that?
Yes the blade needs cleaned with fine paper each trip in and out of the etch, which accomplishes what you're talking about.
Thanks for the clarification. Like I said, nobody really covers that detail, and I wanted to make sure I was t missing something because I couldn’t get a good result without it.
How fine a grit do you go to before etch?
@@johncannon3593 no problem. I'm surprised I didn't cover it in the video, but it's been a long time since I've seen it so I'm not sure. Minimum 800 to a thousand. Bolder patterns need a finer grit as it shows up more.
Weeeee!!!
“dubious”.... good choice of words. 🤣 I’ve been kicked of Facebook for naming the point of origin of most of the cheaper so called “Damascus” blades that are sold online.
Haha, yep
4:03 my ears!!! beware headphone users
Why no looking at camera? Are you being interviewed by ghosts?
Trying a different format...
Damascus steel was taught to men by one of the fallen angels. 😉
Great stuff. This series is very well done with so much good info in it! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
