I've always found it funny that Star Rail fans always make fun of Genshin's powercreep without realizing that their game started having powercreep since year 1 xD
Were they not able to see how some Genshin v1.0 characters are still usable even on newer contents?
@@jiffonbuffo Usable is an understatement, some version 1 units are as of now as insanely broken as they were before and can easily carry you through the game's content
Star rail fans don't make fun of genshin's powercreep, they make fun of genshin's lack of endgame, the dev team that ignores community feedback, the stingy rewards that genshin players get and the constant white knighting the genshin community does for a dev team that has back stabbed them again and again for 4 years.
I honestly prefer that over a stale metagame like Genshin's, but only because of how long the patches of both games are, even if your fave gets powercrept the next patch you get at least 2 months to have them be the best in their thing, which is much more than other gachas (Feh please don't powercreep winter Fjorm next month I gave her so much already)

@@edgieststalker8141yea it’s crazy how much Lingsha can despite being an abundance character. Her healing is pretty weak imo, but those debuffs and team wide cleanse on top of her damage makes her an all-in-one character. I feel like if they are gonna make new abundance characters, they have to go towards the route of additional gimmicks on top of average healing so as to not power creep other abundance characters who just do healing, I.e. Luocha, Bailu, etc.
That's another issue. Why bring a pure sustain when you can bring a damage dealer that also happens to do good sustain.
@@joshvente6898funnily it’s because super break in general is based purely on toughness damage which is why the devs based the archetype into the non-dps paths.

I remember when I had to go through The Swarm Dif 4 with Lynx as my sustain... I genuinely don't know how I still had sanity after that.

@@ognamesweretaken5836 Lynx with Pres mc or double preservation or literally just picking half the destruction blessings would make you pretty handily beat swarm. Most people found swarm hard because they didn’t know what the hell they were doing more than the sustains being weak.

Yeah the star rail powercreep is unreal!
But I understand why it happens. They wanna sale you the new characters and in a game so limited on player input, the only thing you can do is make the numbers bigger.
That's why I've stuck with genshin for 4 years and dropped star rail after 1 year, I don't feel outdated after 3 months of saving pulls in genshin!
In star rail's favor, it does a good job of providing a lot of endgame modes though, they certainly do a better job of giving you content to use your shiny new toy with.
It doesn't have to be this way. Reverse 1999 doesn't do this nearly as much as HSR does, and in their 2.3 patch Reverse 1999 will get a new progression system that aims to bring them back up to current standards. So not only is the power creep not nearly as bad as in HSR, they are deliberately going out of their way to reverse the power creep that did happen. People do not seem to realize that by implementing such excessive power creep you're not only raising the value of new units, you're also diminishing the value of older characters. At this point the HSR should just be honest about it and stop doing reruns completely.

The "new content" (it's just reskinned simulated universe or MoC) is the reason this huge powercreep exist.

HSR sees units after their 1st rerun as units that aren’t money makers anymore. By all means all the units i said above are good in their own right but please… dont be surprised when Hoyo just makes a better version of them.
@@trickmonster7905 Kafka and Black Swan are still fine tho, they didn't lose nearly as much relevancy as Blade or Jingliu. Also Topaz is better than she ever was, after 2 reruns.

GENERALLY speaking HSR stops caring about a unit after their 1st rerun. You cannot tell me Kafka and Blackswan are in a good position rn because they just aren’t.

I love star rail but yeah a character expiry date in there is always very near. With older units becoming absolutely useless with time. Whereas Genshin allows for any team to succeed with enough time and effort
If Genshin cut healing in half for most units it wouldn't be enough. mobs either 1 shot you or you just dont care

The funniest reason for the problems of sustains in star rail is the failure and complete lack of maintenance for the sub-tanking role or units that would appreciate a specific type of sustain due to a conditional. This includes units like Clara, Dest MC, Blade, Arlan, and Yanqing.
I’m gonna mention Harmonies again. Harmonies stole the sub-tank role from units like Clara while buffing the hypercarry, because these units have nothing to build besides speed, bulk, and occasionally one other stat. They don’t require conditionals for their buff requirements either other than living. Robin had a chance to not be like this but they decided she was going to be CC immune in the entire ult. And because sustain, Pure support, pure support was 90% of teams, 3/4ths of your team was always bulkier than they should be with the one dps then having deeps stats. Due to the sub-tank role just not existing as an actual playstyle instead of a “yeah I put HP mains on the buffer” and defensive play being non-dynamic by the time people pressed basic every turn with Luocha and Bailu all the defensive role responsibilities belonged to the one sustain unit going +SP with no agency on how they approached sustain. No non-sustain except bronya has a cleanse anywhere on their kit for the team.
Most new dps completely forgo old defensive destruction skills such as automatic CC Res and self-healing in favor of just pumping damage except firefly who I’m convinced they gave an HP focused playstyle and then decided to toss it for no discernible reason. All defensive play is on your sustain unit and nowhere else.
TLDR: 1.X Star Rail had a problem with roles they tried to make but failed. Pls abandon the idea the old characters can be saved, you can’t save them and be interesting simultaneously until they rewrite the game to be able to do that, because the early characters are almost all incompatible with the game they actually made
Aventurine > Gepard makes sense tho. You pulled for limited 5* stars sustain to survive better, if your Aventurine works almost the same like Gepard then what's the point?
And I'm glad you mentioned Fu Xuan because even tho powercreep is real, FX still works better for Single Target Nuke (and HP meta) while Aven is more for AoE attacks.
Is crazy how much doomposting Fu Xuan gets these days even though she's a really competent sustain and also has 2 of the rarest buffs in the game, HP buffs and crit rate buffs. it's true that there's only one HP scaling dps in the game and that he isn't the most relevant character but I feel like it's something worth noting.

Even if it "makes sense" the problems it still causes are undeniable. There are so many different ways that you could craft a new character to differentiate them from existing ones that just making them do the same job but easier than a previous character is the most bare bones lazy way of doing it.
@jukesdtj656 that's because Gepard has an really basic kit he's just "big shield" with really good aggro sprinkled on top. That's not exactly hard to powercreep even if you're not trying to. Aventurine greatly differentiates himself from Gepard with his FuA identity

gallagher > luocha is the most egregious case of it imo
gallagher in break teams is expected to be super good but gallagher is a better SP printer because of his ult AA. this also makes him a better quid pro quo holder which makes using robin easier.
everything in the game is weak to fire these days which also helps gallagher.
whilst luocha prints SP and (imo) is comfier than gallagher in non break teams, his buff removal is useless and gallagher just has better utility
In all honesty
Luocha has been like this since his release. His dispel hits like one relevant target in the entire game and is otherwise literally just healing with no other utility, he’s about as capable of healing you comfortably as Bailu but with the stipulation of having one cleanse.
He was going to be replaced the moment literally anything that gave utility came out.
The devs even made the new enemy buffs irremoveable erasing luochas only utility above the rest of the abundance class
I remember when Genshin hand-crafted new units to deal with Shielders. They made Rifthounds that deal damage over time to attack that they connect with (ignoring Elemental Burst i-frames) and the armored Abyss enemies that remove your shield altogether.
Recently they've just made it so that some enemies just deal ass-tons of damage
This is the exact reason that made me drop HSR. It's not even a year and Fu Xuan and Luocha got released that look like broken units and after I dropped, Aventurine just completely crept Gepard. I couldn't keep up with power creep esp. when I need a lot of resource just to build 1 character too.
Imagine power creep in a game being so bad five stars become irrelevant as the meta evolves
2:22 this sums up why sustain powercreep exists in one game but not on the other, in hsr you will get hit when it's the enemy's turn, not much way around that, but in genshin? You could simply not get hit. So why get the new character that does nothing but heal more when you aren't even losing hp enough to justify that? Think about Kokomi's release flop. This, and Zhongli does everything Aventurine does and came out in 1.1. However, he isn't necessary to go through the game's content, the shield is just a confort thing, so much so that Layla, a 4 star unit, can do praticaly the same in terms of mere shielding qithout that being an issue. Because, in the end of the day, you could toss your shielder and just dodge to not get hit.

Regardless of game, I love healers. Prefer healers over shielders. No point to shielders if my team is dead or on life support (yes, I know skill issue comes into play but still)
I really like HSR but I hate how most cases you can't even enjoy your new characters before they get powercrepts not too long. Km a very casual player and I'm not far at all (haven't progressed to the second planet for many months- and I just do dailies)
With Genshin, the power creep is actually pretty forgiving. Not everyone is meta and a lot of recent characters has given worth to even older characters.
But HSR, from what I've seen at this point, if you don't get the newest characters, you're f*cked.
That does get pretty demotivating as the only reason I got onto StarRail is because of Welt and now Boothill.

But isn't that what Mr Leech said that was fine in genshin? Isn't part of the video saying (and I'm paraphrasing) "sustainers being better buffers is acceptable since they don't powercreep healing?".
The point of the video is to say that sustainers are sustaining more than before, which isn't true IMO, but that's another story. It isn't about sustainers buffing more than before, because according to the video (I don't play Genshin so don't ask me) Genshin does that too.
Also powercreep is very real in Genshin as well; Arlecchino, Neuvillette, Mualani, Kinich, even Emily are all way above 1.X and 2.X standards, it's just that Star Rail has a cycle based endgame which incentivizes people to compare DPS based on the number of cycles they take, unlike Genshin that as long as you clear the character isn't powercrept.
Blade, Jing Yuan, Imbibitor, and even a lot of 4 stars can still clear endgame, it's just that the moment they take, let's say, 3 or more cycles they're rendered "worthless" by the community.
Also sidenote but Boothill is extremely strong, and Welt just needs 1 god dang team that actually uses his kit to become good, so don't lose hope yet.

Play Reverse 1999 instead. It's also a turn based gacha game, but with far less power creep and with confirmed plans to directly buff older characters in the near future.
I had started star rail 2 weeks ago. I do feel these effects but not on that extent. During farming I can use my friends max level character for fun which makes it very comfy.

It really isn’t unfriendly, you just spike in power the moment you pick up a limited.
Don’t let this dude fool you, he’s just kind of negative about Star rail even more so than genshin because he had an extremely unpleasant experience with it, the game is extremely friendly to new players and you can expect to clear ALL end game in about half a year or even less with full stars or score if you are smart about investment.
oh, the honkai game has terrible power creep? yeah, and the sun rises in the morning.
The fact that baizhu, a healer, powercrept healers as a whole makes me giggle a little
DU has tried to apply band-aid fixes to the healer disparity with tons of max HP increases and a weighted curio that turns overhealing into shielding...but I'm not sure translating those mechanics into a future abundance character's core kit would fix the issues.
i did not expect star rail in this video but i started playing the game not so long ago and its really boring for me. i want to like it cause i love the character demos but the combat is boring, running around without being able to jump or anything is boring, the mcs answer options are sometimes annoying the dialogue is also kinda boring at some point and the whole system where enemies basically have elemental shields like abyss mages in genshin is just really annoying. you always have to switch out your characters in any domain or any exploration just because your damage dealers dont do damage if it isnt the right element and there are no elemental reactions, for me its just a big downgrade to genshin except for the rewards and the more i learn about star rail, the worse my opinion about it gets. its a shame cause the characters are so cool but i have to uninstall. hoyo cooked with zzz tho, this game is a 10/10 for me rn, even better than genshin as of right now (i am only adventure rank/interknot level 30 in this game rn)
This is pretty much what i saywhen i bring up older characters in hsr since if the enemies get too strong you have no reason to even pull old characters on reruns because you basically cant use them in any meaningful way
Depends on the character. For example if somebody loves the d.o.t centric play style, Kafka is not replaceable. Even if Mihoyo released a lightning d.o.t character with higher modifiers people would just run that character with Kafka.

Like look a Acheron, she is basically a DOT who can crit her DoTs and she doesn't need Kafka and is way stronger than her.

@Konkonnie Acheron is not a d.o.t character. Any character that releases with a primary function being d.o.t Kafka will sync with regardless if they are AoE or single target.

I remember when Hector was the most broken thing for pvp during release.
I got through some of the Penacony story quest in Honkai Star Rail last night, and I literally cannot do the fights for precious chests in the overworld in Penacony without having Natasha on my team. I honestly hate having to rely on her and Bronya all the time to constantly buff and heal my DPSes. I have had to set the bigger boss fights to casual difficulty just to get character ascention materials. In Genshin, I could have a team of a DPS, two sub-DPSes, and a healer/sub-DPS, and it works out well, but the powercreep with Honkai Star Rail definitely makes the game a more unpleasant experience than playing Genshin. I also hate how you can't use any healing foods in battle as well.🖤💜
The game really revolves around haveing a sustain and either one or two buffers. Like if you are running a dps as a hyper carry you double buff them and have a sustain preferebly the buffers/debuffers and sustain synergize with your dps. Follow up teams usually run more than one follow up attacker but its because it synergizes well together and leads to follow up chains. Genshin isn't much different but it puts more emphasis on reactions so you need sub dps , buffs and either a shielder or healer.
@RobRuckus65 With Genshin, I am very used to balancing out my reaction teams and with Honkai Star Rail it has been a bit of an adjustment for me having two spots on my team being dedicated to healers and supports. I also really hope that I could pull a really strong 5 star healer in the game at some point to help deal with that issue.
@@VeronicaStorm98 That is an issue with star rail have to wait for a good sustain to be available. Gallagher is a really strong healer for a 4 star he works best on a break team but is still really strong on a none break team. Lynx is also a really decent healer for four star especially if you ahve a character that wants to get attacked like clara or blade.

I hope this covers the additional Shielder issue in HSR, where Shielders have a much stronger ability to prevent the team from dying by having a restorable health bar at all times that is on top of your base health, while healers are reaction based, where you restore your base health, and the healing is additionally reliant on the healers mobility, against bosses like Hoolay who just do whatever they want healers even if they’re 10x better than Aventurine in future patches, Aventurine will still be better against faster bosses.
That powercreep fest alone is the reason why I havent played HSR yet
Something like that happened to me on Genshin when I started Inazuma, still that made it funnier, I hate when things are easy on games, I think it depends of the person
Inazuma just sucks. I have some very strong teams in genshin and inazuma is still my least favorite place to fight stuff.

In FGO it’s hard to compare because your either getting hit by normals that do negligible damage or getting hit with nps that to negligible damage unless it’s a berserker or they one shot you theirs literally 0 in between and for sustainers their all garbage if it’s pure hp and if it’s for shielder theirs only 2 that are used mash which is basically trailblazer/ first unit and castor ia that negates up to 15 attacks with ult while being one of the top buffers for one of the 3 mettas
The day I got Aventurine was the day I let my Bailu retire and beat Golden Gears hardest difficulty.
Let's forget about the sustain aspect of sustains and instead speak about a fun thing that's gonna happen in hsr. Next patch, after Fugue's release, would you believe me if I say that an abundance character is gonna become among the top 3 dpses of hsr ? (superbreak is such a crazy mechanic that, if Fugue's kit stays as the leaks say, Lingsha is gonna match Firefly's dps in Moc and outdo her in pure fiction)
It's funny to think people thought they'll kick the harmony mc out of Firefly's team once Fugue is out, but now Firefly is the one that's gonna get kicked out of the team lol
The new meta team will become Lingsha, Ruanmei, HMC and Fugue. Yes, a team with zero dpses is gonna have one of the highest damage ceilings in the game.

It is difficult because the enemies bulk becomes too much for some older units pre sumeru unless they have cons. Even some have bulk to the point not even some of the more broken units can clear without godly artifacts
I respectfully disagree.
First of all, every single 5 star sustainer is able to sustain a team by themselves, Aventurine, Fu Xuan, Huo Huo, Lingsha, Luocha, and yes, Gepard and Bailu as well, comfortably at that, so Aventurine doesn't render "all previous sustainers useless".
The example you gave, Fu Xuan, is most definetely not true, Fu Xuan is still and absolute unit of a tank, only being considered worse than the newer sustains because she offers less utility, which was your argument on why Genshin's "sustaincreep" issue isn't a problem, NOT because she struggles to keep your team alive. Anyone that has their Fu Xuan team dying needs to reevaluate their Fu build.
As for the 4 stars, well we know 4 stars are meant to be weaker than 5 stars, that's just standard gacha practice, but i'll say that all 4 star sustains balance support with sustain, unlike limited 5 stars who tend to have both:
March cleanses, counters and gives aggro, in exchange, her shield is sp intensive and single target, and her freeze has low uptime, she's still usable especially with characters that want to be hit like Clara or Yunli.
Lynx is the abundance version of March; gives aggro, cleanses (a lot), gives HP and ATK and has CC prevention. She's also sp flexible since her ult heals, granted, her heals are low, but you want to use her with tanky characters like Blade or other characters with counter.
Preservation MC is barely a sustainer, to the point even Prydween has them in the "specialist" tier as a breaker.
Gallagher is extremely good for a 4 star, but sometimes even his healing gets called lackluster. However, he applies atk down on enemies on ult, he also breaks fire weak enemies a lot, which helps sustain, and he's the single most sp positive sustainer, meaning an occasional skill isn't going to kill you, he also applies break vulnerability as a bonus, and cleanses too.
Hell I've even seen 4 star clears (so not exactly fast) use Natasha, and while she has close to 0 utility, counting cleanse, she has pretty serviceable healing that's more than enough to sustain a team with good investment.
And then we have galaghar
why does everybody says benette heals? its a bad heal thst works in a small radis, barbra is a better unit and healer then bennette as his circle impact is a joke
Plus the self pyro application on YOU gets you killed more than helps so there's no point to him even healing anyways

I keep telling people that honkai's power creep is nothing to mess with and how its been affecting HSR.. and yet my F2P friend tries to constantly fight me on it non stop by sayinf how wrong i am. I'm not. I know honkai because i played HI3rd where after 1 patch they deliberately make the battle areas/abyss like game modes to be against your unit to the point they bareky do damage or none at all because your team comp is now ineffective against the enemies they chose to give immunity to.
I even have an SSS rank w/ signature AND stigmata signatures who's the painter A rank. Ever since her first run i have had to deal with bleed immune enemies to the point i cant use her in the teams shes optimal in.. the spear lady who transforms into a battle suit to fight? Barely does damage after her first run. Same with the nun that has the butterflies. And those 2 are S ranks.. aka 5 star units. SSS is basically c6.
Unless your units are SSS rank with maxed out stigmatas and weapon, you are screwed clearinf a damn thing.
HSR has the same issue.. they nerf so much and do nothing about it because they rather watch you suffer by releasing new units and bulking up new enemies that go AGAINST the previous units. The only ones that have a chance to survive are units that can apply weaknesses

Yo buddy can you please make a video about Neuvillette VS Mulani. Like it's now frustrating that most of the Mulani Mains thinks they are the best character ever released because they can do 1 Million DMG in a single hit.
Like they are people who say they don't care pull whatever you like it doesn't matter but deep down they support on the other sides.

As a person who mains both Mualani and Neuvillette and has them whaled out, I’ll share my opinion.
As of now (Mavuika isn’t released), it depends on what you do, but overall imo Neuvillette is better.
If you care about speedrunning and boss killing, Mualani blows Neuvillette out of the water (pun intended) in any level of investment.
For overall quality of life, over world gameplay and smooth gameplay, Neuvillette easily wins and it’s not even close.
Overall Neuvillette is better but I can see the argument about Mualani being close.
I disagree they have been making characters that synergize really well with other characters. Yes adventurine is really good but he only really shines on a follow up team or with acheron. Fu xuan is also still really good and is also really good with acheron. The new healer lingsha has one team she is good on and thats a break team so either firefly or the new ninja girl. Huohuo is still amazing on any team that needs energy. Lynx is one of the few characters that can give aggro to one of your characters. They all have purposes just not all teams are good at all content.
