    This has been very eye opening and interesting! For the last 2 years I have been working on trying to do my own Etsy shop with apparel and home decor print on demand items that I design the image and a company prints and ships, as well as working on my illustration skills. I always thought that licensing would not be viable as a job, but I can see the field is wider than I thought and I am very interested!
    I have a background in apparel production and because I come from a different country it is the first time I hear of the title surface designer, but that fits well what I do it makes me more curious to learn more about this.
    I am thankful I saw your video! Please make a part 2! Maybe talk more in depth about finding clients/companies or red flags and things like that? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!

      With a background in apparel production, you'd have a lot of expertise to bring into art licensing!

      Me too Sean, me too! It's funny how surface design is all around, and yet no one knows about it :o Better late than never though, because I feel that I've found my true passion and I'm jumping head first into this world and making my surface design portfolio now!

    I'm interested in surface design! I have a whole folder that I once sent to ONE greeting card company and... then just didn't go beyond that. I should fix up my portfolio and go for it elsewhere!

    I need to start licensing.
    I've done design things that I only charged chump change for, then that person blew up online to make I don't even know how much money off selling merch with my design

      I'm so sorry to hear about that hun :( Keeping your copyrights and charging royalty can definitely be advantageous, but what artist thinks about that in the beginning?

    I've been comissioned a few times lately to create an illustration for wallpapers and cloth and I really enjoyed it, so I planned to teach myself a bit more about pattern creation and look for jobs. But I did read a bit about licencing and I'm really interested in going in that directipn.

    I have that same pencil case, so cute! I'm interested in how freelance artists that license their work find trend information, especially if they don't have a licensing agent.

    Hi Vanessa! Can you help me? I would like to make pre cropped stickers for goodnotes. but i don't have an ipad or the goodnotes app, i do the art in photoshop. Is it possible to make these pre cropped stickers in photoshop?

    • @ArtBusinesswithNess
      @ArtBusinesswithNess  3 года назад

      You can right-click on a layer in Photoshop and select "quick export as PNG". This automatically exports a PNG that's cropped tight just to the image you exported. However, when the planner community says "pre-cropped for Goodnotes" they mean a Goodnotes file with all the PNG stickers placed individually on it so they can be lasso'd and copy/pasted easily. And the only way to create a Goodnotes files is with the Goodnotes app. When I first started, I asked a girl to do these files for me in exchange for getting the stickers for free. But I made $500 in the first month and then just invested in an iPad and Goodnotes. Best decision I ever made, since I've now made over $30,000 from my stickers and planners!

    Hi! This video is very interesting also for me. Could you please share where to find companies and art directors? Are there some directory for that? Thanks

    • @ArtBusinesswithNess
      @ArtBusinesswithNess  6 месяцев назад

      You can find companies and art directors with an online search, or an in-person store search! I like to take photos of products I see in stores. On the tags you can see the name of the company, then you can look them up online. There are also directories you can buy.

    • @eelettricblue
      @eelettricblue 6 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately I’m in Italy and there aren’t so much shops and products to browse. What’s the name of the directories to buy? Maybe are there some sector fairs where find the list of attendees? Thanks again

    • @ArtBusinesswithNess
      @ArtBusinesswithNess  6 месяцев назад

      @@eelettricblue You can browse online too :) I'd encourage you to start looking around you more for any products that have art on them, I think you'll be surprised! You don't need to be in a city that has lots of cool shops. Even at the pharmacy or grocery store, there is art everywhere. I live in a small town of 14,000 people and I still am able to do company research in stores. For directories, I don't know them by heart so I'd have to Google it to find it for you. I'll leave the Googling to you since I'm sure you can do it beautifully ;)
