Abby it’s okay that you aren’t a wood worker. Oh there is a way to get 9 x 9 inch wood post but it would coast a lot plus it would need a lot of clamps, wood glue, biscuits/dowels, a big saw, a big planner, and big sander. More importantly it would be really heavy.

Before I watched this video I felt overwhelmed to make a bed loft but thanks to this video I feel confident that I can do it. You made this seem so easy straight forward so thank you for making this great easy step video

Nice build; I don’t get what all the hate is about. Loft beds are about saving space, and yours accomplished that for sure. Buying an adult loft bed pre-made is over $2,000, so you probably saved a ton of money. It looks very sturdy as well.
You did a great job. It would be really helpful if you muted the background sound and added a voice over explaining exactly you were doing with background music.

well done! a couple of suggestions: 1) the junction to the wall has too many bolts to close to each other. I suggest 4 / 6 bolts in total spread along the lentgh of the beam. The risk is that on poor walls that 4 bolts group could break a squared part of the wall. If you spread the load evenly though, there's no such risk because the wall "manages" to take the load 2) the whole rectangle looks very tough (good!) but offers very little resistance to horizontal loads which could deform its shape to a parallelogram. You could avoid the problem reinforcing the structure with diagonal beams while building it in the first place. Now it's too late but you can still use a steel thick wire, X shaped between the angles, across the bed, to have a way better resistance (I am an engineer: I can give you the math behind if you want) well done anyhow! it looks like you had fun!!
Marco I'm gonna need to see some of that engineering math you're talking about. I am a carpenter of 25 years and I disagree about the strength of the rectangle. Those half lap joints on the 2 center boards add tremendous lateral support to the structure, especially with the dimensions of the wood at hand. You could throw that part of this build off a 3 story building and I guarantee it won't even rack that thing out of whack. So go on. Show me the math.

Calculations: assuming poor wood (1MPa compression resistance) AND only the 2 internal beams resisting the laterale force AND simplifing a little the static scheme Just to calculate faster AND the joints are made really tight with no gap at all you need roughly 250 kg of lateral force to make the joint fail. I underestimated how wide the joint was

If the wood Is poor for some reason you can Just consider 1MPa. Is not really ez to tell u the match behind in a text (i Need a simple drawing to explain the strutture scheme). Anyhow i calculated the maximum load using a triangular stress shape oh the joint. Each of the 2 identical triangle Is equivalent to a force. Call It N. N=(sigma.max)*(joint.lenght)*(joint.depth)*0.5. the 2 N generate a momentum, call It M. M=N*(joint.length)*0,333. U have 2 internal beams so u have 2 M. Also each beam have another momentum resisting the force from the Wall. We can approximate this situation as if each M was halved. (Strong approximation). The external load, call It L, generates a momentum, call It W. W=L*(beam.lenght) From the laws of statica W=4M Now you have everything. Out numbers inside and you'll get soneting close to what I got, depending on what numbers you put inside. I am Sorry for my english. I am italian.. not so ez.

I see a lot of people asking what kind of wood it is. As long as it's pine, cedar, fir... It doesn't really matter. Even heavier, denser woods like maple or oak might be overkill and even dangerous in this setup and it's feasible that he could have spent WAY less on pine 2x4s instead of 6x6s and still made a SOLID loft bunk. The only thing I see that is really of concern is the fact that this isn't properly anchored to the wall. AT ALL. Not sure what the code is in Argentina for stud-spacing, but I would imagine it's similar to the US. Generally 16" on center. Here, the lag bolts would have been overkill if not for the robust posts. Since it's only really anchored in a couple spots and it's questionable how deep those bolts actually travel into the studs given the post and drywall thickness, I'd be worried about body weight on top of that thing over time. Also looks like you scrapped the box spring for some THICK MDF panels. That is SERIOUSLY one-heavy-loft you've got there. If those bolts run too deep, he risks compromising the integrity of the stud, too shallow and he runs the risk of ripping those bad-boys right out of the wall. 2 of those bolts on each corner are likely drilled only through the drywall/plaster and are sitting in the empty wall cavity. Should have used 2-3 long, narrow construction screws all along that back plate at each stud making sure no utilities ran through.
My suggestion is to place your lag bolts on each stud in the wall. 4 bolts that are 2" apart seems crazy, only because studs are usually 1-1/2". Depending where you live its 16" or 24" On Center stud layout. Hope it didnt fall down .

Mind you, this is 3 years after vid was posted. But it’s problematic to have a continuous piece of wood underneath a mattress. You need to at least drill holes, or better yet have separate planks with space in between. This is to avoid humidity and mold buildup.
I hate it how on these time lapse videos, most of the time, we get so invested with our time on a 10min video only to get 30 seconds of the actual finished project looks like.

wow that is really expensive for this project, you can use any wood, i choose pine beacse is cheap, please make sure of choose good Billet and screws and choose a good wall, Do not leave weak points in the joints and stick everything with glue, good luck, feel free to ask!

Using 4x4 for the leg supports was smart. 4x4 a bit over kill for the frame though, 2x4 would have worked fine in my opinion. Over all good build.
I suppose from an aesthetic perspective it keeps the whole frame the same width so nothing looks out of place

A mattress has to be able to breath through the slats, so being on a flat board will cause mould to grow under the mattress.

You should always do your pencil line cuts first then cut out in between, this allows for a better way to cut the joint

In order to avoid the humidity of the matress would be better than you use several thin plates of wood.

Why use glue and bolts to attach the cross beams? If you just used bolts then it would be a knockdown loft, easier to move when necessary.
