Thanks, George. A well-balanced review. A few things to add, if I may. (I've lived in both places.)
Jomtiem has a long (several km), straight beach road, whereas Hua Hin does not. And the beach road has a near constant flow of Song Taos (Baht buses), which go all the way from the South of Jomtien to the North of Pattaya making it very easy and cheap to get around. And much of the drive is along the side of the sea. Because Hua Hin lacks this, it feels less like being at the seaside unless you live somewhere like Kao Takiab virtually on the beach. In Hua Hin, I therefore find I use my motor bike a lot more.
If you prefer a villa to a condo, then there do seem to be a lot more of these in Hua Hin than Jomtien. (Having said that I still managed to find a 3 bed villa in Jomtien, 900 meters from the beach road to rent for THB18,000 per month.
One commenter mentioned the proximity of Jomtien to Bangkok. I agree. And especially the main airport which is only a couple of hours on the coach from Jomtien. (The dual track rail, which isn't high speed as often reported, and isn't open yet, will not make getting to Bangkok from Hua Hin nearly as fast as from Jomtien.)
    Hope this helps.

After being in both Pattaya and Jomtien, I am amazed by how dirty and trashy the water is at both beaches. Floating garbage and very murky polluted water. Got a 4 inch by 5 inch skin rash that lasted for days after swimming at the beach in Jomtien for just 15 minutes. I spent 3 months living there. I hear Hua Hin is much cleaner.

Another good comparison would be the smaller nearby towns of Cha Am and Bang Saray!

Great video, thanks! My wife and I moved to Hua Hin a week ago and so far it is great. Wondering whether the age demographic is more diverse in Jomtien as going out the average age in Hua Hin is around 70 and up which is great but we would like to also make friends our own age. I am into Kiteboarding and motorcycles, we may go check out Jomtien and compare.

I think both places have their own pro and cons... but Hua Hin have many affordable property to rent or buy... Jomtien is close to Pattaya, so things could cost more. Food, in either cities, have plenty of options and affordable

Great video! My wife and I are looking for something a bit slow paced and we're going to be checking out both regions.
However, we're also interested in ease of transport. Which area is easiest to get around? Does Hua Hin have Bolt and is it as easy to get around as Jomtien? Next, what about hospitalization? If we needed medical care which area is preferrable? Finally, which area are the locals more conversive in English? Is that going to be a major barrier in either area? Thanks!

Found Pattaya very noisy and bustling. For an older person that’s a bit overwhelming and disorienting. Compared to the slower pace in Hua Hin . Market prices and beer is similar in both places . Shopping centres in Pattaya big and selection unbelievable. Jomtien is quieter than Pattaya. Sea water looked polluted in Pattaya and jomtien . Hua Hin seems better for older retiree.

I heard its quite common to find snakes on Jomtien beach especially in the trees - is this an issue you have come across?

Yeh there are loads of snakes around Thailand. Not seen many in JOMTIEN but they are there for sure. Most of the time we see them dead on the roads unfortunately

Yes we are interested in air quality. No way would I retire in a place with brown air to breathe. Lots of mosquitoes is another issue ... Koh Samui is off the list for that reason.
