if the tether isn't broken by the end of the combo, hkab's kd doesn't give any oki besides a manually timed c.S / 2D / yzn

Yup! They have to be tethered from S Kabari already, then you do the non-tether grab by holding grab and you can combo afterward :)

Baiken has 2 throws. Just hitting the button tethers, holding the button doesn't tether and throws them further.
If they're already tethered the hold version is what lets you combo.
