I actually really like this story. The justification for the Marine garrison is weak - they're not greedy. But the idea of a space marine force overseeing a vital supply world isn't unheard of, or bad. I like that the Flesh Tearers see the people as just so below them and just want to leave. Fun fact, Captain Gorn dies on Baal defending the Tomb of Sanguinius from Fabius Bile's mutants, and Sergeant Nox was an honor guard to Gabriel Seth during the Devastation of Baal. And of course Tarikus has other stories about him as well. And I think Captain Consultus is the Marine who becomes one of the new Tetrachs of Ultramar. I think its the same Marine. But I remember reading this way back when. Its a fun little side adventure.
It is interesting though that Gorn treated the local planetaries governments staff of command with more respect. Relisten to the ceremony where they officially hand over watch. Gorn treats the object symbolizing the local government with a certain respect, yet our Doom Eagles disregard it as worthless as soon as the transfer is completed. It's very subtle, and I don't know if it's intentional. But very interesting
I think the implication is that the Flesh Tearers allowed the Chaos cult (or even created it) as a mask for their killings. Plus garrison duty for heavily bled chapters makes sense, especially for the more valuable resource worlds
Usually I'll wait til the end to share my thoughts & a 👍/👎-- I can already say just 5 min in, this is one of my favorite tales you've shared w/ us over the years
yeah like why even have it as a razorback, why not use the three doors in the back where they were sat, they crawled over the driver to all jump out of a hole? lol
The algorithm really fell off in my feed for your channel. I've missed so many videos. Hopefully things get back on track because I love your narration.
*Here come the red* they stalk while you sleep *Here come the red* Your blood do they seek *Here come the red* Your soul do they claim *Here come the red* And you'll never be seen in the sunlight again
From what I'm getting out of this, having Flesh Tearers in the area looks so similar to having Khorne cultists running around that it even fooled the Flesh Tearers. Because the way things played out sounds a lot like Gorn was accidentally covering for a Chaos cult because all of the signs of it just sounded like the stuff him and his men got up to regularly. As to the fight with the Faux-Marine, yeah a normal human wouldn't last a second against even an unarmored Space Marine but one of those Marines almost died to a bunch of daemon-rats so there's no telling what that mutant in the fake armor was juiced up on. And he had to be juiced up on some kind of Chaos-roids for that story to make sense just because of the size that The Red would need to be. Remember the whole thing was that it was pretending to be a Space Marine and it was doing it so convincingly that it even fooled Tarikus until he punched through it's breastplate. And I'm sure that him and the natives would have noticed if The Red was two feet shorter than all of the other Space Marines. So that would explain why he lasted 5 seconds against Tarikus instead of the 0.5 seconds that a normal human would.
So i somehow stumbled upon this channel after listening to a 40k campaign called Da Krew... This is my 3rd video Ive listened to so far and im definitely thinking this is becoming my favorite channel to listen to at work.
I think the Flesh Tearers just had no idea bout the mutants or the cultist, they just assumed the locals were catching on to them feeding and trying to stave off the red thirst and so they ignored it. Since they also left right after it was found we can assume it was a pretty small cult, one dude and some mutants is not a threat worth the time of two entire chapters. But since the mutants are immune to bolt rounds and need to be put down with fire and plasma it kind of justifes them hanging around a little longer (how many plasma rifles do you think a chapter can really field lol)
Thank you ABP for your hours and hours of amazing story reading and lore telling. You and Leutin are definitely my two favorite 40K creators. To your health, prosperity and peace this year and always!
There's more then a few chapters that either are honouring their garrison duties from the 30k Imperial Crusade or have been gifted/taken over these requirements due to the world's previously been host to the traitor legions. Plus you have relic world's, tomb (not the Necron kind) world's etc etc etc so it's not completely out of order for context of this story. Makes a little more sense for maybe a fleet borne chapter or even a certain crusading chapter who has more marine's then "allowed" 😂
The Returned is one of my favorite 40k stories and one of my favorite videos you’ve made, so it’s super cool seeing you doing another Doom Eagles story!

Greetings BorderPrince, once again, I can only say excellent audio production. Discovered you half a decade ago. In that time I have thru hook and crook paid for or "wheeled out" audiobooks for free from the internet by asking , or rather being clever in how I word my searches for free audiobooks . I have actually listened to every audiobook available in the Horus Heresy ( near 300 books) thru the sige of Terra to the end and death 3. As well as stuff that's come after. Chronologically speaking. And so I come back to you for the great wealth of audio stories that seem to b without end. And so kick ass well done. Damn, how many have you done ? It's really kinda incredible. And it seems these days that Warhammer 40k is really going strong as far as all the people whom are getting into the table top gaming. Though I am not one of them. There are many people I think , wondering where they can find Quality 40k rich in lore and adventure that CANNOT be found in audio story form, not anywhere else that I am aware of. Truth is I still have only listened to half the stuff you have done. Anyhow, just wanted to thank you again, and hope you be well.....
Thank you AB for your work I truly appreciate everything you do I love 40k so much and I love how you portray every character you bring life to them like no other. Thank you again
@@ABorderPrince I can look past marines on garrison duty, its unlikely but plausable. I can look past calling an APC a tank, minor writers error, but I love the idea of a space marine seeing ceramic or glass or whatever that fake armour was and not knowing the difference between fancy cooked dirt and metal alloy turbo armour. "Im a tactical marine, not a technical marine. I know actions not things, and like, facts and stuff..." Its like an angry marine turned dude bro.
"Our is Rage, black as space. And thirst, red as blood..." ‘The kindness of angels is the sharpness of a sword blade’ - Chapter Master Gabriel Seth Brother Sergeant Suhr Tarikus and Brother Sergeant Nox, meet again during the events described in "Black Tide"
Ya, was wondering WTF at a few of those explanations part way through... like, was this a fan story you found perhaps? Oh well, good reading, and good listen to overall while painting.
I don't hate James Swallow but it's weird to see someone acting he's the superior writer and standard setter modern Black Library has forgotten. His books are o-kay and I feel like he's struggled to really write books that fully realize the story potential of the blood angels and their successors, and this left a gap that was filled by Guy Haley and others that removed a lot of their ambiguity and mystique in favor of making them far more generic and basic vampires (going so far as to invent garbage like retractable fangs) who just so happen to be space marines.
".....6 Flesh Tearers arrived."
The other half of the chapter was going to be late.
lol
They still have more sustainable force retention and replacement than the Flesh Eaters if Seth is to be believed.
I never get tired of hearing these. You've got one of my favorite voices, and I appreciate your work. Thank bruv
Agreed. Keep them coming!
thank you sir

Tarikus’ saga continues. I love when you continue to follow characters whose stories you’ve narrated before.
A good story and well narrated. The moment of bemusement over the Razorback's top hatch made me chuckle.
To be fair, razorbacks have two top hatches. Those spots storm bolters would be.
yeah its like why even say its a razorback
o yeah but in that case why say its a razorback, what they all crawled out through the drivers spot instead of the 3 doors in the back
