Excellent info - and very applicable for. You made it easy for me to understand. (In my second year of retirement I listen to all your videos ) thank you to “Tom Cycle” - caught me off guard with the humour 😂
I was talking to my neighbor yesterday, and he was saying how complex retirement investing feels to him. It's like no matter where he looks, it’s either too risky or too complicated to understand
I agree. This is a very comprehensive look at different portfolios and how/why it affects returns. One thing I wonder is why you didn’t ladder the retirement income for Tom? He could spend a little more while he is young and scale back as he slows down in his 80’s. Thank you for your clear and informative videos!
Wow. I have watched a lot of retirement planning videos and this is the most comprehensive. The fact you tied the asset allocation details to the overall plan was something no other planner on YT has done. Most planners just say get 5% on your portfolio but don’t explain any breakdown on how to get there. Well done.
Thank you for the presentation. Lots of detail and excellent points to consider. I particularly enjoyed the way you demonstrated the asset mix/ risk/ fluidity over upcoming time lines.
Thank you for a very well done presentation. We hear a lot about retirement earnings but rarely can you find clear information on withdrawal strategies. This video is by far (I I have watch many of them from Canadian advisors) the most informative. Job well done.
Very clear, consise presentation of drawdowns plus showing why "safe" is not safe over the long term. So much good advice in one less than 20 minute video. The secured line of credit is also a great safety net. I'd add an additional tweek of continuing to add to TFSA annually from non registered account.
I’ve been looking into how to invest smartly now that I’m in retirement, but there’s so much information out there, it’s overwhelming. I don’t want to make a misstep and put my savings at risk
Like the videos, I'm wondering though why you don't transfer the maximum allowable TFSA $ from the taxable margin accounts into the TFSA? Seems to me that would be the first thing you would always do to reduce Margin tax. Yes, possible capital gains on equities but sounds like he has GICs in the Margin acct.
Good point. I actually mentioned during the video that one of the iterations we would want to run is pushing money from nonregistered to TFSA’s and to see the ripple effect of the tax free compounding.
I just turn 44 and awfully late to invest with barely any portfolio except my 401k, I have a decent amount of cash saved up and with inflation currently soaring again, I’m getting worried about about retirement, my intention is to retire at 55. How best do I maximize my savings of over $230k
This is solid advice-especially the part about knowing your risk tolerance. I’ve been adding some Bitcoin to my retirement portfolio with My Digital Money, just trying to get a good balance. Curious if anyone else is using crypto for retirement too?
I’m in my 50 and focused on making investments that will set me up for a secure retirement. I’ve heard of people making hundreds of thousands during market downturns, and I even listened to a podcast where someone earned over $650K in less than a year. What’s the strategy behind achieving such impressive returns?

What’s the difference between this timeline portfolio and general 60/40 portfolio? Will it handle sequence of returns risk better?

According to my Adviser; *Investing for Retirement is better than Saving for Retirement.*
