But as you said, no blind spot monitoring, backup camera, etc. Also, Porsche added power steering to the 944 for the 1984 model year (mine was an ‘84), and all 968s supposedly had it. Owning a 968 I can add a bit of information. The 968 does have power steering. Also the clutch is much lighter than the one in my Boxster S 03 (986). In a 968 you really have less of a need for park assist and such as the visibility around the car is really excellent. Power is a bit down compared to the Boxster S and to get power you have to rev the engine. Once you are in the VarioCam range the engine pulls and is very eager to rev. Said another way I doubt that the reviewed example is in the best shape it could be.
Most people that replace the clutches in these cars, buy the Sachs kit, which uses the pressure plate from the 964 which is way too stiff for the 968. There is a specific 968 pressure plate but it's only available through the dealer. I'd lay money on that being the issue.
