I thought The Bridge was an amazing documentary. It was deeply profound in both the extent of pain the victims must have been feeling and the families as well, also, in reality, themselves being victims. Black Fish was a documentary that once seen can never be unseen and one can't go back to the happy place of the fantasy world that Sea World was trying to portray. Both excellant in different ways.

I'm not saying the director of The Bridge is a great guy, but the crew actually had an agreement that they would try to intervene in every instance they could and called the proper people required to prevent their deaths. The problem is that a lot of these people who jumped looked so normal, just walking along before in a span of one minute they hauled themselves over the railing and into the water. No one could have intervened for them in the first place, they would have died anyway. What he did to the families however is horrific, there's no denying that.
There was one guy where the camera literally follows him around. Throughout the movie, you will see shots of the camera following him. at the end, he ends up jumping. They may not have known he was going to jump that day, but there was a reason they followed him around while he paced back and forth up there.

Thus, I don't feel like there's any subject matter that is controversial but I understand events or circumstances around a documentary could be. For example not getting permission from a subject, especially a victim, or purposely misleading authorities, committing something illegal or unlawful, etc.*
The Act of Killing really is scary for us Indonesian. But that "G30S/PKI" movie is just much scarier imo. It was a propaganda made by Soeharto (New Order) to legitimize his regime, by spreading hatred towards communism -> it's related to the genocide that happened in the end of 1960s, as told in The Act of Killing. Sadly, even after his regime ended, and the film was confirmed as a huge lie, the hatred and sentiment still exists. How the brainwashing effect on our people minds still remains is what scares me the most.
I found this doc coincidentally while browsing a local rental shop. R Crumb is my great uncle. I grew up hearing stories about him, being told I drew like he did, and having a markedly different view of Genesis than others in my Communion class thanks to reading the copy of Crumb's illustrated interpretation that he'd sent to Grandma. Side note: Her comment? "Oh, he wrote about the Bible! What a good Catholic boy!" 😂😂 Our whole crew shares seemingly complementary traits of book smarts and flawed social reasoning, creativity and mental irregularity. Even as a member of the family, watching it was an enlightening experience re: how the family deals (or doesn't) w balancing support and independence, compassion and humor, and creativity and practical functionality (poverty playing a MASSIVE role in outcomes for smart, creative, and somewhat unsteady personalities) in their personal and social lives. Even as a fairly observant member of the family, the film succeeded in magnifying those flaws in an uncomfortable, heartbreaking, and revelatory way. Highly recommended.
This was really good, I agree with all of those selections. The ones I've seen definitely belong on this list and I can't wait to check out the others you highlight that I haven't yet watched!
tillicum died last year. they never did let him go free. seen most of the films on this list. blackfish and the bridge were films that impacted me the most.
Wow, I remember hearing about the last story but what was left out was that they were convicted of child sexual assault crimes - I was only told the father killed himself so that his son could use the life insurance to leave prison. Was definitely told to me by child sexual abuse sympathizers. What a wild list.
'24 and Ready to Die' is VERY interesting. It's on the Netherlands assisted suicide methods due to mental illness and follows a woman through her process toward this. It's very interesting.

good list, but one that you missed is called "Brother's Keeper"... the true tale of a brother killing his brother and the resulting court case in rural NY. Definitely deserves to be on your list.
the bridge, blackfish (on netflix btw), jesuscamp and Dear zachary are some of the best docu´s out there, granted they can be disturbing or morally questionable but they do what they wanted to document.
I have to admit that I am maybe not totally convinced at 100% of the authenticity of it... but no matter whether those specific testimonies are real or not, I agree with you that it's something VERY disturbing to watch because we know that those horrors really exist anyway... it's impossible to still have respect toward human beings after watching this.
I took classes in American Sign Language from Terry Kohut at Harper College in Illinois. He's such a pleasant, kind, and caring individual. It's so hard to see what he had gone through at the hands of those meant to guide him.
The only one I saw was The Bridge. The crew did manage to save a few people who appeared wanting to jump. Another documentary I've recently seen here on RUclips is called Dying Rooms. A heartbreaking reality about the orphanages in China after their one child policy.
Oh and enslavement and nightmare of captivity for animals to entertain for profit is so cruel and immoral that it is the same as the coleseum in ancient Rome. We haven't changed or learned at all.
Regarding 'Capturing the Friedman's' how was the son able to collect off the insurance policy if the father committed suicide? I didn't think you could collect if the person killed themselves.
The Red Pill is a good one. Thought I'd see it on this list. Protestors successfully got it banned in some theaters without even watching it first, not knowing what it's really about. It has horrible online reviews, and judging by what they write in the reviews, it sounds like they've never seen it either. A whole lot of people making assumptions the film. It's actually a really good film and has some really important info in it. I wish these people would watch it.

A documentary's purpose, as well as to educate, inspire, provoke thought and so on, is **_to document_**.
The way this dude says “gangster” is, well, the most gangster way possible.
Blackfish is actually what made me want to become an animal activist. (and of course, pit bulls and other "vicious" dogs)
Courtney K aren't you special
chupaxf no need for him to act like he's special
or her sorry
juicy jayham hues lmao yeah being an activist makes you real special. Who knew that the fact that someone wants to help was them acting " special "
Jacqueline Gutierrez ikr
That last shot of Robert Crumb is great - he's aged so awesome! This was a really well done video - thank you.
omg you're coming up so quickly! congratulations!
Crumb was SO good. I'm glad the film was so honest to show the darkness behind some creativity.
What a good Catholic boy!" 😂😂
Our whole crew shares seemingly complementary traits of book smarts and flawed social reasoning, creativity and mental irregularity.
Yes, I agree, that was the whole point!
This was really good, I agree with all of those selections. The ones I've seen definitely belong on this list and I can't wait to check out the others you highlight that I haven't yet watched!
tillicum died last year. they never did let him go free. seen most of the films on this list. blackfish and the bridge were films that impacted me the most.
no "child of rage"? Thought it should be in the top 5's.
True, "Child of Rage" is a disturbing film, but it didn't spark controversy. Otherwise, yeah, it's a hell of a documentary.
It's not really a documentary either. More of a single interview.
too mainstream
ardstsp And the Jesus camp one isn't?
Happily, ",Child of Rage" girl, her name eludes me, is a happy, healthy, married with children child therapist!
I love this channel sooooo much
I love this channel so much keep it up man!!!
Wow, I remember hearing about the last story but what was left out was that they were convicted of child sexual assault crimes - I was only told the father killed himself so that his son could use the life insurance to leave prison. Was definitely told to me by child sexual abuse sympathizers. What a wild list.
Jesus Camp was downright scary to watch.
I've seen it multiple times and I just. It's so horrifying and I hope those kids are doing okay
'24 and Ready to Die' is VERY interesting. It's on the Netherlands assisted suicide methods due to mental illness and follows a woman through her process toward this. It's very interesting.
Id like to see a part 2 with the videos ppl mentioned here
this is one of the best top 10 videos I think I've ever seen. It was very informative, not sensationalized, and it was well-narrated. Thank you!
finally a new vid from this great youtuber
Very good video!
One thing though... Andrew Jarecki is of Polish descent. And his last name should be pronounced as something like "Yaretzky". Except that - great job!
"Europa: The Last Battle" is the most controversial video series i've seen on youtube by a long way. makes all of these look tame
That was the 1st ideo of yours i have watched so far and it was great!Def going to be watching more.I really appreciate in your videos that you are totally biased on what is truth and what isn't but still gives us all of the facts!
I almost cried at Blackfish ngl. I’ve barely watched any proper documentaries but I watched this and have a huge love for Orcas prior and it was so sad
Dude, "film" is one syllable.
A great list ..but you forgot "the dying rooms" .
I'm going to Google this . (Edit). Ok, that's dark but absolutely unsurprising. China is big @sshole.
Im surprised "Making a Murderer" wasn't on here. "Gimme Shelter" and "Crumb" are two of my all time favorite Fill-ems!
thank you so much for doing this video! 💋 I knew none of these documentaries had existed.
so I learned something new today and I thank you for that. I also thank you for taking the time to do the research on this you did a excellent brilliant job and I enjoy it. Keep up the good work I'm looking for more good stuff!!💋💯❤
Congrats you gotten a new sub. You don’t get a random scary image that was use to death, that was isn’t in the video. You go to the point with your interesting topics and a clear explanative voice.
I can't thank you enough for posting this. Although is hard to watch, it's essential to know the truth. These victims must not be forgotten
who the hell makes a violent outlaw biker gang the set security for their concert?
You could probably do another one of these as there are so many great documentaries out there. So please think about it :) great video
If it's not controversial because of truth, it's not a true documentary.

So that’s where that meme reaction came from?Lmao
You sound American but a bit Irish, where is your accent from???
Niamh J he's Irish i think
I'm Irish, been told I have a Canadian/American twang to my accent though :P
Deburke321 that's what I thought, you think being Irish myself and named Niamh I'd recognize it quicker haha but you do sound very American too
where have you beeeeeeeen??!?!??!! welcome back
good list, but one that you missed is called "Brother's Keeper"... the true tale of a brother killing his brother and the resulting court case in rural NY. Definitely deserves to be on your list.
Great episode, can't wait for more
Just stumbled across your page and found great content. Got yourself a sub. Love the videos I have seen so far.
the bridge, blackfish (on netflix btw), jesuscamp and Dear zachary are some of the best docu´s out there, granted they can be disturbing or morally questionable but they do what they wanted to document.
REST IN PEACE TILIKUM
"„EYES OF THE DEVIL”. A DOCUMENTARY FILM BY PATRYK VEGA. By far the most disturbing video i have ever seen on youtube."
Thanks I'll be checking it out.
Well you just earned yourself a new subscriber! Love docs and I've got a few more to watch thanks to this video! Thank you!
A heartbreaking reality about the orphanages in China after their one child policy.
yet another amazing video!! keep up the good work 😊
Hi, thanks for this creative list. Great job! Inspires me to check out a few documentaries I haven't seen, yet. Thorough and well researched work!
Oh and enslavement and nightmare of captivity for animals to entertain for profit is so cruel and immoral that it is the same as the coleseum in ancient Rome. We haven't changed or learned at all.
very insightful. really appreciate info on all these fill'ems
Great list. Would've added Stevie (2002) to this list, but that's just my opinion. Keep up the great work
I've seen The Bridge and I thought the footage was from surveillance cameras on the bridge, but now i know how they really got it.
omg those poor children that is horrifying. someone should bring that to light.
Glad I subscribed, good upload
Regarding 'Capturing the Friedman's' how was the son able to collect off the insurance policy if the father committed suicide? I didn't think you could collect if the person killed themselves.
Well done
Thanks for the upload
You didn't rush, very informative and cogent
The Red Pill is a good one. Thought I'd see it on this list. Protestors successfully got it banned in some theaters without even watching it first, not knowing what it's really about. It has horrible online reviews, and judging by what they write in the reviews, it sounds like they've never seen it either. A whole lot of people making assumptions the film. It's actually a really good film and has some really important info in it. I wish these people would watch it.
I didn't know Gimme Shelter was controversial
I'd love to get these documentaries and show them to my kids at the nursery school. They're always eager for new movies.
I hate black fish that movie made me cry
Same
I'm loving your content, but just a heads up: film is not pronounced "fillum". You're adding an unnecessary extra syllable. After the "L" sound immediately comes the "m" sound.
Regardless,, your content is seriously good! You deserve infinitely more subs!
The Bridge documentary is in my recommended videos.
There's a few .. missing on my personal list. There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane, The Life and Times of Harvey Milk, Looking for Richard, Talhotblonde, When We were Kings, Bowling for Columbine, and last but not least .. Man On Wire. oh and 13th, 5 Oscar winners in there.
I thought suicide nullified life insurance?
