The 10-episode scripted series, set as the real-life East High, where the original movie was filmed, follows a group of students as they countdown to opening night of their school's first-ever production of "High School Musical." With meta references and some docu-style elements, it's a modern take on the "classic" from 15 years ago. Well, the same thing happened with The Mandalorian, and on regular TV Big Hero 6, Tangled: The Series, DuckTales 2017, and Muppet Babies all got renewals either before the show even premiered or before the second season did. There is also how Agents of SHIELD got renewed for Season7 before season 6 even premiered. Sometimes the higherups just like a show enough to renew it before the show or the next season even premieres.
This is how you do streaming. You have faith in a show and renew at least for one more season before you axe it. We haven't even recieved season 1 but know there will be two seasons. It makes it worth investing in the characters and the story. Disney+ is already killin' it and it's not even out!!

Based on what they've done in the past, I would say that your predictions are probably not going to be too far off

Cookie Swirl B more seasons is possible if they are just doing short lived seasons for each season of their new original tv shows like if they only 10 to 13 epsoides. That leaves room open to do more epsoides and more seasons than shows that do 20 to 30 epsoides per season.
A Fun and Friendly Name high school musical already did a broadway show in the past so I don’t think they’ll do another one also the Disney plus show has its own concept that works for them so I can’t really see the disney plus show getting a broadway show
They need to create theater play packages for drama clubs and drama theaters and schools to preform the series season 1 as a play 2hr 30 min play or 3hr play

Cyclops823 - They did the same thing with DuckTales too and lucky for them, it ended up being an excellent reboot. But this is pushing it, especially since unlike DuckTales, this is on a service that hasn’t even been launched yet!
Keiji Johnson I think it’s mainly because Season 1 has 10 epsoides and no more than 10 so they probably renewed it for another 10 or more epsoides and got a yes.i think it’s a lot like Netflix original shows where the seasons are short lived giving them room to do more epsoides and more seasons than a normal on tv tv series
TVD Forever! The first epsoide did premiere before Disney plus launched since it aired on Disney channel because there was that whole first look at the new Disney plus series plus the 3 movies themed day on Disney channel

Something just came to my attention while rewatching the series for the billionth time; I began to wonder if making a 3rd season is even possible (since they’re already making a second one) because as we all know it follows they story of the East high students doing plays but...
They are only 2 plays a year, meaning next year
Nini, Ricky, Big Red, and, Kourtney will be a seniors
Ashlyn, Carlos and, Gina will be sophomores
And E.J. will be in college which means they will be losing a main cast member in their storyline.

It’s a season per semester, for example this season was the fall semester of ej’s senior year, nini ricky big red and Kourtney’s junior year, and Carlos Gina Ashlyn and Seb’s sophomore year.
So that means in season 2 it will be the spring semester.
So season three would be ej’s first semester at college, nini ricky big red and Kourtney’s senior year, and Carlos Gina Ashlyn and Seb’s junior year
What I think wii happen is they will follow the characters Into the real world like they did with glee when Kurt and Rachel Went to New York
Then end the series with Carlos Gina Ashlyn and Seb graduating

I'm so excited for this next season! I love this series so much! I enjoyed every episode in this series, they are so good and entertaining than I expected. I thought this will be boring, but it turns this really grows on me. I'm loving it in everytime I've watched it. Again I'm so stoked for the second season.
