I want to learn the differential equations and one of the most renowned mathematicians in the world tells it to me while I'm sitting on my couch. I can't even describe how lucky I feel.
Dear Professor Gilbert Strang, I thank you for your marvelous introduction to Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations. It truly filled me with joy seeing it explained again. Please keep on teaching man. I really do enjoy these videos. I don't attend MIT. However, seeing your videos allows me to truly grasp the concepts being anywhere around the world. I'm sure you've touched the minds of many individuals and helped them all. I thank you. They thank you. We all do. Have a blessed day/night. Godspeed and may the Math Gods protect you.
"Those are the ones you see most in applications and those are the ones you can solve..........when you're fortunate!" - classic! Thanks so much for this course. I would like to express my sincere appreciation. Without open courses like this millions would have no access to this quality of education! Many thanks!
Thanks Sir. you are brilliant....I am a returning student....age over 60....Your video clip is a great start up for me....taking collage ......Math 24 and Math 26........I hope I can find more of your video clips.....thanks again.....very helpful....detailed and to the point.....
He is really one of the best Math teachers/professors I have ever seen! At least I am able to listen to his lessons without falling into sleep. I used to have some kinds of phobia against Calculus, but now, I am able to solve many Calculus problems (and only through online learning).. Thanks!
It's been so long since I did differential equations in college! there was one time I could solve these things so going to follow the videos for mental exercise... thanks!
This guy is an amazing educator! +MIT OpenCourseWare have a gold standard in Gilbert Strang. This guy is literally bumping Leonard Susskind out of my favorite teacher of all time slot.
I’ve done diff eq and linear algebra as two separate courses. As an Engineer I wish I would have seen more instances where my instructors tied the material we were learning to the real world,l. That’s not to say I don’t have a tremendous amount of respect for my professors but I really like the introduction to this video with the way he says there will be topics of application for what the course covers.
This is awesome, awesome, awesome! I have been looking forward to Mr Strang doing ODE's as much, if not more so, as waiting for major blockbuster movie! Thanks to all of his work with the linear algebra and engr. comp. sci. (applied linear algebra covering some of the best algorithms!) it is so much easier to understand. I purchased his book (linear algebra) last year and I personally think it should be the gold standard for all Universities. Thank you, and a thousand times more, thank you!
legendary warrior, I think you need to stop spitting junks and this can be achieved by shutting your shit hole. I can't ask you to stop thinking because you ain't gat no brain.
Currently taking my first ever DE course and I’m four weeks in already kind of lost, everything went and progressed so fast. I was planning on giving up and dropping the class but then I woke and decided to bring myself to a level of better understanding with this topic. I know I may not understand it all still but it won’t hurt to try. That’s why I’m watching these videos to better learn since I know class notes and homework is not going to be enough
I love u Sir Strang. For me u r d Guardian Of Mathematics. We feel fortunate to have u, follow u, and watching ur videos lecture. Thank u from bottom of my heart.May god u stay always fit and fine.
Wow!!!! I am so very happy i found these videos! I am going to watch them all and i am very grateful for the clear explanations! Beautiful to see the art of teaching done so well.
Dr. Strang is doing an online ODE course! Oh, how I've waited for this day. I went through his entire 18.06 OCW and it was absolutely wonderful, as was the book that went along with it.
Awesome videos! I'm so happy and grateful for MITopencourseware for this online lectures. I've been watching them to review myself and advanced study as an ME student. Commenting to show appreciation and for thre algorithm.
Dr. Strang, I've seen your Linear Algebra text--a professor at Grossmont College used it for his class--we had a different text. Your text is amazing--I have 4 different texts, but none are as comprehensive, nor abstract as yours😊
Nice efforts and good exposition about the overview of differential equations and its subject matters. I watch most of the blogs on mathematics in different subject matters prepared by you in RUclips. Sir, I love Linear Algebra book written by you. I am preparing for my post graduation in Mathematics, I am using your book along with the Linear Algebra book written by Hoffman & Kunz. Love you sir, from INDIA. Thanks a lot.
I remember there was another course video on RUclips about a year ago, which the name should be Linear Algebra and Differential Equations for engineer? but now it is this one that left.
There are number of courses that you might be thinking of... there is 2.087 Engineering Math: Differential Equations and Linear Algebra, 18.085 Computational Science and Engineering I, 18.086 Mathematical Methods for Engineers II. Here's a link that might helpful: ocw.mit.edu/search/?f=Lecture%20Videos&t=Applied%20Mathematics. Click on the Lecture Videos checkbox to only show courses with videos. We hope this helps. Best wishes on your studies!
.......................................great lectures..........!!!............all of them.............thanks kindly for these posts............Best Always.
I bet your exams are tough--do you or did you give partial credit on D.E. exams? My professor got her degree from U.C.L.A., & i loved the course--we used Zill's text for O.D.E., but I also have Boyce & Diprima--which text did you use in your course?

wish both profs healthy. Really appreciate!
AHHHHH im so glad MIT made this
Remind me of the other lecture "linear algebra" of Prof. Gilbert. And now 10 years after that. Very sensational. thumbs up
Especially love how the professor relates the equations with real world systems. Great Lecture! Please keep these coming! so succinct
all those years of experience and Gilbert Strang's deep smarts thanks MIT open
In federal prison, I watched a "Standard Deviants" video about DEs over and over again, until I got it. Beautiful.
He is really one of the best Math teachers/professors I have ever seen! At least I am able to listen to his lessons without falling into sleep. I used to have some kinds of phobia against Calculus, but now, I am able to solve many Calculus problems (and only through online learning).. Thanks!
I've been looking for something to study this summer. Seems as if I've found it! Thank you Mr. Strang and Mr. Moler!
+Steven Royalty Agreed!
Shhh dont tell these out loud normal people will hear it and call us creepy !
don't ruin your summers 😎
i wish i had done that over the summer in college or HS, good for you!!
8:52 Eigenvalues and eigenvectors decouples N coupled linear problems. A fundamental and great summary of linear algebra!
