Domesticated rats are basically tiny dogs if properly socialized in their first weeks of life! They love you with the same intensity, bordering obsession at times. The downside is they can literally become deeply depressed if you leave for a trip... their health and lifespans are also terrible!! Imagine your dogs dying every 2-3 years... they truly are "the heartbreak pet".

I have bears, chipmunks, hummingbirds, bluejays, quale, rats, mice, rabbits, crows, blackbirds, and many migrating birds. Too much wildlife to poison anything and I don't want dead animals in my walls. Thank You for this video. We used to have a pet rat and he was a pretty smart and cool pet. I can't hurt them.

At age 22 I did something pretty stupid.
Don't ever get drunk and attempt to place a rat in your mouth ,
Well it latched on to my tongue.
48 hours later I became very ill
48 hours longer and my body was covered with what looked like chicken pox. I was never sicker
Being puppy sick and hallucinating I went to the E.R.
The Doctor said I had rheumatic fever and hauntra virus both
    He compared it to plague.
He could not explain the bumps . Well I'm 55 now and never been ill since then , really no flu no colds nothing.coronavirus had nothing on my immune system.

They won't be nearly as good pets as the domesticated ones! Domestication is a long-term selection of the traits we prefer in pets. Wild rats will remain very skittish and high-strung. They will be able to bond and love their owner the same, and will have many of the same base qualities... but they will be overall harder to own and handle.

Terribly misleading video. Rats are not just some clever, innocent, misunderstood specter that humans irrationally fear. Rats disgust people because they reproduce incredibly fast becoming immediately overwhelming, they are very unsanitary covered in and spreading their own waste, and the destruction they cause is devastating.
I feel like you must not have ever experienced the anxiety of failing to deter rats that have affected your life if you can ignore all that to have the attitude presented in this video. "Rats may not be as much of a plague-spreader as we think" and "poison is not a solution" are not reasons to try to coexist with rats.

      Then they'd be squirrels.
The other day, I caught a squirrel and shaved its tail. Suddenly, it was a rat! 😳

@29:17 The sign in this artist illustration depicts the Parisiennes being sold dogs and cats to be eaten (look at the sign's wording). This is interesting because Europeans are always chiding other groups for eating horse, dogs, cats, etc. But they did this too!

It’s difficult to co-exist with rats as they’re carrier of Leptospirosis.
