My first one bought in South Africa in 68 was 2.5 later replaced by a 2.3 before the 3.0 in 71,same colour as this one, champagne they called it,what an amazing motor,I loved it,thinking about the exchange rate back then it would have set me back about £1100,when the kids came I replaced it with a four door which was great but not in the same class as the coupe

These cars were built in Port Elizabeth, South Africa and the underbonnet labelling is consequently English and Afrikaans, not German.

@@rutzirutz5838 The P7 and P7b did not use the "Taunus" name in South Africa and if I'm not mistaken not in Germany either. They were simply "Ford 17M" and "Ford 20M", and many South Africans colloquially called it simply "The German Ford".

i had this only diference had two extra round yellow lights on the front metal grill, was the RS1600 as my first escort rally car not a road car as i was a driver till early 80´s already with the escort RS2000. Ultra rare ? you should see the older coupé with the extra lights fiited in the front chromed bumper that would put them at a higher level makin`the bumper curved, only saw this one i had but still in my city Beja, Portugal where lot´s of german families lived for three decades or a bit more , so they imported engines from south africa to european countries, the coupé seen on the video available here on youtube doesn´t look nothing like the one i refer ,had a slick look very sportive lines and low with special iron rally wheels not alloy, and missing the chromed round rims to this iron wheels to give a more depth feeling ,it´s missing in the video

14:34 This is not german, it is dutch. And 20m is not the body shape, 20m stands for the generation of the model within the Taunus range, just like MK1,MK2,MK3... Between the 1950s and the 1970s they built Taunus 12m, 15m, 17m and 20m. The m stands for "masterpiece".

    • @monk3yboy69
