This is one of my favorite Marvin Gaye songs....which was dedicated to his wife, Jan, who was a Soul Train dancer. She was a beautiful woman, may she RIP.
"After the Dance" is a slow jam recorded by singer Marvin Gaye and released as the second single off Gaye's 1976 hit album I Want You. Though it received modest success, the song was widely considered to be one of Marvin's best ballads and served as part of the template for quiet storm and urban contemporary ballads that came afterwards. I’m blessed to grow up during the golden age of hip hop. However, I do envy those who were blessed to grow up during Soul Train. All those incredible sounds and music being played on TV every time it aired. Including Marvin Gaye.
RUclips is the closes I'll probably get to seeing a real time-machine in my lifetime. Although the info that is displayed in this video more wrong than not, I have this video saved in a couple different playlist. It's nice to beautiful black people grooving, smiling and happy. I miss Soul Train. I miss music like this. I miss Marvin Gaye. Side Note: An absolute dime piece appears at 3:34 ;)
This was undisputedly Marvin Gayes BEST PERIOD of artistic output and THIS GEM is in my personal view the most beautiful ode to a newfound love 💘 that I've ever heard. You can hear his feelings for Janice expressed in every single note, melody, vocal inflection.....Simply beautiful and priceless. If ever a song summed up Marvin Gaye as an artist this is it and one can say that he firmly established himself as a the very definition as a "singing POET".
This one bad mother right here, doing my college days I remember pulling up on the parking lot going to class Marvin gaye had my 8 track player on fire 🔥man I missed the 70's what a time
You can’t fuck with the 70’s; Hands down the flyest decade; What a time to have been alive…
The 70’s was the best era ever
I agree the music was/is phenomenal from all genres
"I don't want your number, I'm walking outta here with you..."
O.G. SHIT!!!
Marvin was like, if you're gonna make me lip sync then I don't really have to pretend like I'm actually singing.
Sounds like something he'd say...lol
He was a rebel it seems
😊
1976 was after the dance
I was screaming the same thing . I grooved to this album in my senior year of high school 1976.
Only a six year difference but at that time six years was eons apart.
This is one of my favorite Marvin Gaye songs....which was dedicated to his wife, Jan, who was a Soul Train dancer. She was a beautiful woman, may she RIP.
I know he was singing about a soul train dancer, but I didn't know She was a soul train dancer.
She actually wasn't a soul train dancer. He just added that. The whole' I want you' was dedicated to her not just this song.

This is the music that gave birth to hip hop. Especially James Brown.
Notice how slim and active everyone looked back then. Everybody actually danced back then…built in aerobics workout!
We wont see the likes of Mr. Marvin Gaye come our way again, not ever.
