This time, we will introduce you to Hakozaki Shrine, which is famous in Fukuoka.
At Hakozaki Shrine, there are events such as the Tamatori Festival and the Hojo-e Festival.
It is widely loved as a forest that decorates Fukuhiro's four seasons.
The history of Hakozaki Shrine
Hakozaki Shrine is also called Hakozaki Hachiman Shrine, and is counted as one of the three major Hachiman shrines in Japan, along with Usa and Iwashimizu Shrines.
The main deity enshrined is Emperor Ojin (15th Emperor), who was born in Kada no Sato, Tsukushi Province, now Umi Town, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Empress Jingu and Tamayorihime no Mikoto are enshrined here. There are various theories about when it was founded, and it is difficult to say for sure.
According to ancient records, in the middle of the Heian period, in Engi 21 (921 A.D.), Emperor Daigo, by divine edict,
He was given the ``Surrender of Enemy Country'' (Shinpitsu) and built a magnificent shrine on this land.
In the first year of the extension (923), it was relocated from Chikuzen Oita Shrine (Honami Shrine).
After its founding, it was deeply revered by people from all over Asano as a place of prayer, and also played an important role as a gateway to exchanges with other countries.
During the mid-Kamakura period, during the Mongol invasion, a so-called kamikaze blew and the city overcame unprecedented difficulties.
It is also famous as a god of warding off evil spirits and good luck. Later generations included Takauji Ashikaga, Yoshitaka Ouchi, Takakage Kobayakawa, and Hideyoshi Toyotomi.
Hakozaki Shrine flourished as famous military commanders from history visited the shrine and worshiped the divine virtues of Hachiman Omikami, a deity known for his military exploits and cultural achievements.
During the Edo period, Nagamasa Kuroda, the first lord of the Fukuoka domain, and subsequent lords of the domain never neglected to revere it.
Since the Meiji era, it has been with Japan aiming to become a modern nation, and in the same year, it was designated as Kanpei Chusha,
In the 3rd year of Taisho, it was promoted to the status of Kanpei Taisha, and in recent years, it has gained reverence from all over the country.
It is widely loved as a forest that colors the four seasons of Fukuhaku, such as the Tamatori Festival and the Hojo-e Festival.
