One man has been charged after an hours-long armed-and-barricaded standoff with Winnipeg police officers at a North End apartment building on the weekend.
Police say the standoff stemmed from an incident Friday shortly after 6 a.m., when officers were called for an armed robbery at a home on Boyd Avenue, between Charles and Salter streets.
During the robbery, three men forced their way into the home, and one of them shot a firearm, injuring a 40-year-old man, police said in a news release Monday.
A 25-year-old woman who was inside the home was believed to have been taken by the suspects, who police say fled before they arrived.
The injured man was taken to the hospital in unstable condition but was later upgraded to stable.
The next day, police said they found out the woman was inside an apartment suite on the corner of College Avenue and Charles Street, and that one of the suspects in the robbery was also there with a firearm.
"As information started to reveal itself to police during the day, it brought our attention to the College Avenue apartment," police chief Danny Smyth said at a news conference Monday.
