So Dave I had the same thing happen to me when I left my bass in my car in the sun....the fix was some pop rivets. Hard to believe they didn't think of that....thanks
The made-in-China ones are better than the Vietnam cases. I watched a brand new Fender Bass case like that disassemble itself right in front of my eyes. It was just sitting there open, on the floor. The entire lower foam insert just let go and came out of the bottom shell entirely. Same deal on the ribbons and nothing but 8 blobs of hot-glue held it in. Pulled it all out and re-did it with an industrial hot glue gun.
I have the same Fender Hard Shell case for my Fender 2014 American Deluxe Jazz Bass FSR, and the same thing happened to it. I managed to fix it with Gorilla Glue clear epoxy tape, with a couple drops of Gorilla Glue and it seems to be holding, but yes, Fender, please take note.

Selling $500.00 guitars for $2,000.00 inside a $00.99 case.... Ahhh vulture capitalism. Our two local pawnshops have Gibson USA & Fender USA nice used guitars starting at $799.00. I wanted my first guitar to be an American made Fender Telecaster but couldn't afford one. So i bought a Squire FSR TV yellow model ($200.00) and had it set-up for $125.00 and am completely satisfied. I'm 66 and decided I'd like to learn to play....
@@TheWGLOVER He's correct - the drill bit is a "twist drill". No need to include the word "bit", the spiral bit is the "drill". Now, I'd laugh if I heard somebody call their cordless drill a drill motor, regardless of technicality. You could also call it an "18 volt cordless, brushless, two gear, analog speed controlled, keyless 1/2 inch chuck drill motor with reverse and 22 position clutch". After all, what good is a motor without the gearbox and chuck!? It's semantics. I'd never correct somebody on this, because in the end, common usage is more important than what is technically correct. When someone asks for the "sahwzaahll", you know to grab the reciprocating saw, even if it isn't the red brand.
I have a Gator case with the same issues. I tried hot glue, gorilla glue and then gave up. It kept popping loose. My next step thought was rivet the strap in place using some washers to kept the webbing and bracing the plastic. Couldn’t find my rivet gun so I will try your method.
I have one of those exact cases for my Fender US Tele... I'll have to see if mine has the same fate (just taking it on a 12 hr drive to a vacation spot and jam with my buddies in the Okanagan)
Hiscox cases for me all the way. I think I own about 8 of 'em and they have NEVER let me down either at home or on the road. Mind you, I think the Fender cases do look nice.
Those cases look great in photos and unboxing videos, like precision attaché cases in a Bond movie, but when you get one they're a bit underwhelming. Bendy plastic the courier has probably already split at the corner. Mone doesnt have wood under the handle. But I'll be sure to treat those straps with extra care now!
If you buy the case alone from a distributor because it's a Fender you pay astronomical prices. Just like Fender guitars these days they're over priced. The entire guitar industry has gone crazy.
I have one of those cases that came with a Tele I bought last year. I only use a gig bag with it since it’s a Fender. It doesn’t need a hardshell like a Gibson.
I have Fender moulded case from the 90’s that’s still in great shape. It’s my “leaving the house with a Strat” case. Seems they’re not making them like they used to.
It's called "shared manufacturing", Dave. The Chinese invented it. It used to be like when you bought a cheap product from China and and the thing was so half assed that you had to finish the manufacturing process at your home. Apparently, the idea was so good that they're using it in expensive products now.
Fibreglass and/or plastic cases are generally garbage in my view. If, when the hinges don't crack at their fixings, or as happened here, the straps fail, there are other traps. More often than not they employ an aluminum/alloy strip around the edge so to provide structural rigidity and ensure the top keys into the body when opening/closing. This lovely sharp cornered addition is created to guarantee the infliction of a delightful scratch along the guitar's finish at some point in the case's lifetime. So better to buy plywood cases peeps, or at least avoid using anything with metal strips adorning it, including the fancy carbon fibre jobbies.
I fixed the same fault on Gretsch case but I only had self tapping short screws although the box is ply so its holding, Dave you are the boss of repairs mine is bodged up compared to yours. You never showed how you got the grey padding foam out.
Nice fix Dave and kudos for calling out Fender for being cheap. I wonder how much extra it would cost Fender to make it like you did right from the start? Also, I never seen your other tattoo before. Does this mean you used to believe in Jebus at one time? lol
They used to be made of steam bent plywood which had lining blocks joining the sides to the top like an acoustic guitar that were glued in place then left to set before the covering can be glued on. The quality depended on how good the plywood was and it's glue but they didn't tolerate humidity for long periods and didn't like changing temperatures much either. Those injection molded cases can be made in minutes including fitting the lining and hardware so there's more profit in them ! They should be more stable in different climates and temperatures but it really depends on the quality of hardware and fixings, using hot glue to attach crucial parts is pretty stupid !
That shouldn’t even be a fabric strap. It should be a metal hinged bar fastened with rivets or bolts. (Bolts are better because they can be adjusted). When you think about it for about a second from a force/leverage point of view, those straps connected with hot glue are guaranteed to fail if even a little stress it put on them because of mechanical advantage of being so close to the fulcrum (hinge). Horrible design. Leo Fender would be ashamed.
This is not a QC issue, it's simply a poor design. As an engineer, Leo would be turning in his grave. There is an old poem called the Horse-shoe nail. Basically by saving a penny you lose a pound (sorry, I' English). Seems apposite.
Dave, here's another question for the common sense department. Why does that shitty case get poodle interior and they took the poodle interior away from the G&G custom shop cases? Fender is Absolutely Losing It!
I'll be "that guy"... You could have put metal grommets thru the doubled part on each end of the strap so the screw doesn't abrade the webbing. No, I don't think it is required - but you could have...
Sorry. But it was a manager that made the call. Likely over the objections of the engineer. They call it ‘cost cutting’ what it really is is ‘quality cutting’. Oh yeah, then the manager blamed the engineer. Or tried too. If the engineer was savvy he kept the email where he told the manager it was a stupid idea.
if you know where to look. you ca find any screw at home depot, lowes, ace or actually any hardware store. I said this in a way once before. Prove me wrong and I will give you a 1971 Precision bass.
Safety straps to prevent accidents attached with hot glue ?
Somebody in Quality Control needs a good talking to !
Save a nickel and lose a dollar ???? Must be an engineer from Boeing at Fender……
At least no doors were blown off or passengers sucked out
@@dabsaferent a bullet, buy a gun? Vegas vacation. Lol
Why not? They had a rocket scientist design their failed solid state series in the late 60s
Bean counters “ Let’s use shitty hot glue instead of bolts because its cheaper “.
You fixed that case just like a machinist would Dave!
Ya they ain't the only case company that dose not know.
Dave, you forgot to adjust the truss rod on the case. 😂

Another reason to consider Fender alternative instruments and products!😊
Drill Motor is the proper term. The drill is the bit that makes the hole. Thanks for using the proper terms. Smart guy Dave is.
The drill is the machine that spins the drill 'bit'. Eg hand drill, bench drill etc.

My G&L has a case just like my 1972 Precision had. The good old days 🎸
Don't blame this on me, I went G&L decades ago and never went back
I have a Gator case with the same issues. I tried hot glue, gorilla glue and then gave up. It kept popping loose. My next step thought was rivet the strap in place using some washers to kept the webbing and bracing the plastic. Couldn’t find my rivet gun so I will try your method.
The old SKB cases were far better. But you can't beat the original G&G hardshell cases.
Wrong. You *can* beat them. And they continue to function perfectly 🥰
Dave's World of Fun Stuff...Wow!...You Ungooched it!....Just Great!
Had the same thing happen to a Road Runner case.
My fender case broke just like that, and the lock failed and that was the first day. I bought a gator case have had no problems since.
I have one of those exact cases for my Fender US Tele... I'll have to see if mine has the same fate (just taking it on a 12 hr drive to a vacation spot and jam with my buddies in the Okanagan)
Daves way.
Good fix. Davey's on the case!
Hiscox cases for me all the way. I think I own about 8 of 'em and they have NEVER let me down either at home or on the road. Mind you, I think the Fender cases do look nice.
More case Arts and crafts
Got the same one. Did a quick QC. Mine (seems) pretty solid.

I have a ‘70s LP with the “chainsaw” case. It weighs more than the guitar

Great video.
I have one of these with my jazz bass. She's expensive so gets babied, case included, but I'll keep an eye on those straps 🧐
I used pop rivets with back up washers on mine. Worked fine. Shame on Fender!
My Ric case failed the same way..twice. I complained and they sent me a new one…same. Scheit
That happened to my fender case it had sharp spikes hinges and popped right off 😮

I don’t like those injection molded cases. I love the old school Fender Tolex covered cases especially the tweed.
me 2 but the case weighs more than the guitar
Damn. Companies are just getting piss poor cheap.
The one time you didn't have to check the truss rod first!
sanity experience skill and uncommon sense wins again.
That’s why they call them Fender washers..

just pull
Six beer job indeed
It’s the simple things designers miss, when they miss
The case is supposed to last at least as long as the guitar. Does this mean these new Fenders are going to start falling apart in 8-10 years?
Nice fix Dave and kudos for calling out Fender for being cheap. I wonder how much extra it would cost Fender to make it like you did right from the start?

Those are reform school tatoos..you can ask, but you might get punched out :)
Nice work Canuck. But can it be intonated? Apparently when it was designed it was a 12 beer job. Peace
Whatever happened to quality and pride of workmanship?
Those cases are cool, until they’re not. I have a couple of the nicer quality ones for telecaster.
Dave I’ve got some old car seats can you reupholster them for me.
That's just a downright shame.
Everyone loves a “six beer job”. 👍🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Where! Where! Under the chair.

But will they listen ?
fender should use the vintage tweed cases this case is cheap micky mouse stuff at best
I knew these new Fender cases were crap!!!!
Arent they just branded SKB cases?
I prefer Gator anyway...
Made by Gator actually, is what I was told.
Low-bidder bids low
Even those cheap Glarry cases are built better, come on

That’s a miserable excuse for a guitar case to be sure! The no name guitar center cases are better than that….
Dave, here's another question for the common sense department. Why does that shitty case get poodle interior and they took the poodle interior away from the G&G custom shop cases? Fender is Absolutely Losing It!
Wow, that's a really shitty looking case

American guitar companies are becoming just like American automobile manufacturers. They don’t GAF about little things like fasteners.
The trouble with that common sense is that its not that common...........................................................
The junk that gets passed off as quality is disgusting. What next.........paper machete?
if you know where to look. you ca find any screw at home depot, lowes, ace or actually any hardware store. I said this in a way once before. Prove me wrong and I will give you a 1971 Precision bass.
Not in Canada ..sorry
Go Oilers 2025!
go play golf :(
So I'm gonna say pathetic ... there done ✔️
Note to self.....NEVER buy a Fender case.
Great video.
