The Tunnel of Trees runs from Cross Village to Harbor Springs*** Apologies for that mistake in the Voiceover! Look at me being human and making mistakes!
I’m in the very tip of the Little finger of Michigan. So many people miss the northern end of M-22 and it’s the best part! Also so many great roads(mind you they’re short) on the interior of Leelanau county and views!
Hey, you are in my neck of the woods. I grew up on a farm in Indiana, but as soon as I took a road trip to Michigan, I knew I was moving there ASAP! In the winter, we trade the bikes for snowmobiles. In the summer, it's such a nice place to ride. There are so many lakes and hidden camping spots. The summer temps stay fairly moderate thanks to lake Michigan with very few days over 90° and lows in the low to mid 60's. I've lived here for over 20 years, and there's still so much I haven't seen. There's also a strong motorcycle culture here that is friendly and welcoming to all riders. Funny that your the only other person I seen wearing the smart wool under garments. I think they are perfect for riding and wearing under my other clothes and gear. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed your trip. Thanks for promoting our beautiful state of Michigan!
Awesome video, I admire your desire to ride and share them with us to enjoy and new ideas for me to plan. Can’t wait for your next one. Stay safe out there.
Hey Staci thanks for the great video once again! Can't wait for the snow to be gone it's been a rough one so far! Keep putting out the videos they help keep me sane lol 🤘
Love the videos, I've had two great trips to AR thanks to your input. I hear you on the right kind of enjoyable spots, not too touristy/bougie to lose the experience of the area. I don't even have a motorcycle, I love your videos for ideas for road trips in my Miata. Very inspiring! The bike folks know where to find the roads.
That was really cool. I did the UP way back in 2011 coming up WI 35 to US 41 and US 2 on a 2009 Heritage. Then up MI 117 to the bottom shore of Lake Superior then on to Sault Ste Marie. I then entered Ontario and traveled Canada to Lake Ontario and re-entered at Lewiston NY. Here it is all these years later and remembering I promised myself to return and do what you just accomplished. Thank you for the memories and for sharing! Keep up the good work.
People!!! Ahhhh! I just want to ride! 😂😂😂 I sooooo understand that! You do a great job and I sure enjoy experiencing your trips with you! Thank you for everything! Sooooo enjoyable!
Love this video!! Rad edit on this. I did the M-119 in summer on my Lake Michigan circle tour, but your trip in the fall was friggin rad. So much better. BTW, the dog was adorable. As always, I really enjoy your content!
I live in the Petoskey area about 10 minutes from the tunnel of trees and also ride. I love going down it in the spring time, seeing everything bloom and all the smells are amazing! Less traffic too 😅
I have an old Air Force buddy that lives in Manistee, and she’s been telling how beautiful the Upper Peninsula is in Summer so I think I need to check it out now that you’ve given us a taste. No Pot Pies, bummer, but the burger looked so delicious! 😋
Awesome ride once again, Staci! Your editing gets better and better! One of these days I'll "escape" Texas and head to some of the places you've been! Thanks so much!
@@chassisresearchkid Depends on the time of year! That trade would be brutal for you in July-August! ;) It's actually going up to the 70s here this weekend and it's sunny, so I'll be out on my Spyder tomorrow!
@@ridetofood Yepper! This past July and August were practically unrideable, even with my light Bohn shells. Heading out today and tomorrow as our temps will be in the 70s!
Nice to see another video from you Staci. Funny how we jump on our bikes to get away from people and noise, and then we end up riding into places that are full of just that. Love your content, girl.
Glad to see this episode! And so glad you stopped in Manistee! The Outsider does have some good burgers. And the M-22 is so beautiful. We are a bit biased as we own a home in Manistee, but we always take a ride (car) up the 22 whenever we are up there.
Great video! I live in TC and love this area of my state. Yes, Tunnel of Trees is WAY over rated. Especially when the tourist are up here to ruin the fun. Pierce Stocking is in my back yard and I ride M22 as much as I can. It’s my take my mind off life ride. Thank you for representing Michigan so well. Hope your next trip treats you just as well. Safe travels!
Thanks for sharing that video. All of your videos are awe inspiring. I am always waiting for the next one. Its nice to have these as in most places here in the US its too cold to ride, but these videos always gets your mind ready for the next riding season.
Great video of a wonderful place that, sadly, has fallen victim to its own success with crowds and crowds of people. Since COVID, many such places have been almost overrun with peepers and looky-loos. As usual, you made me hungry and made me miss riding all at the same time! Charlevoix tries real hard to be both Nantucket and Martha's all at the same time, so you didn't miss anything there. The Tunnel of Trees can be weird to ride near sunset as the flickering dappled sunlight through the leaves is almost hypnotic! And, yes, Pierce Stocking is head and shoulders above Tunnel of Trees. You have room to breather. Amazing Milky Way shots! I can always tell when your videos hit home when I can't wait to get out and ride again!
So glad you got to enjoy Legg's. It is fabulous. The cabbage roll, the beer.. just out of this world. Especially during the summer when you can eat outdoors. So glad you did the Tunnel of Trees, too. Last October i took a group of students to the UP and we stayed at Porcupine Mountains State Park. It was a geology trip. I sent the students walking along the shore line to see if they could find some phosphorescent rocks. They did. But best of all, the Northern Lights were brilliant. The trip may have been about rocks but that is the memory they will forever hold.
Wow thanks for the Vid. I need to hit M22 and Leelanau County again this year before the summer crowds roll in. I've lived between TC and Charlevoix for most of my life and there are many great rides up here in NW Mi.
We stayed at a family cabin in Traverse City and road to all of the places you mentioned in July. I was still underwelmed by the tunnel of trees. I loved Sleeping Bear!
Awesome video! You totally captured the beauty and sensory feel only achieved by motorcycle. I live in Grand Rapids and bought a touring bike just to experience this same ride. Without a doubt bucket list worthy for anyone considering. Ride safe.
I'm a lifetime Michigander and I have not been to all those places. I put some pins in my map for this summer while watching this video, and subscribed. I just bought a classic Goldwing to do some multi-day stuff this summer, this will be on the list.
Makes me want to go back! We love that area and always camp at Wilderness SP too. Oh, and I totally feel you on that rich person vibe in some of those little boutique towns. We did kinda feel uneasy because we are definitely not that😁
I live in Harbor springs, ride 119 a lot. Your right , summer mid week is when you will find the least traffic , if you ride in fall when the leaves are on road, be very careful of wet leaves on road in am. they are very slippery !!!!!!!! I thought it was because I ride it a lot I was jaded, but I agree with you------hyped, nice ride but i too feel there are better rides in mich.
The Michigan 2024 fall color "peeping" Series (Upper and Lower) was spectacular footage. I'm glad you picked Michigan to film and photograph. The Western part of the Upper, and the Lake Michigan side of the Lower is an easy reach for those living in the Chicago IL area. This makes the West Side a much more "touristy" side of the state. If you ever come back for Michigan's fall colors, look into a ride along Lake Huron's US-23 with a side trip out of Oscoda Michigan heading west along River Rd to Lumberman's Monument and a short walk to its HighBanks overlooking the Ausable Valley. Maybe even add M-25 along the Thumb of Michigan's Lower Peninsula for more riding along the lakeShore. Yea lots of places to visit in Michigan, especially during the fall color season. There is a Hell to Paradise run...lol Excellent episode Cool 😎
Just gorgeous riding Staci. The Polish stuffed cabbage is called Galumpki. One of my favorite dishes. Most people just say stuffed cabbage. Those tacos looked incredible too. You always open us up to outstanding areas to ride and tease our appetites with all the different foods. My usual “ compliments to the creator “. Thanks girl. 😁
your previous video prompted me to plan a trip to the UP for this fall. Now I have to extend the trip for the west coast of the mitten! Trick seems to be to time the leaves. Your videos are inspiring Staci. Keep it up!
They can definitely be a little tricky to time! there's some news articles that explain how to try and predict it for each region of the state, though! that's how I planned my trip out
Michigan from Mackinaw City all the way to Muskegon was my favorite part of riding around Lake Michigan! We skipped the metro area and took a ferry back across to Milwaukee. When we did the Tunnel of Trees it was late July and we could count on one hand how many cars that we came across the whole road - it was fantastic, though the trees were all green so maybe not as scenic. I really enjoyed this whole series as it's a little closer to home. :)
I just rode this exact route last year for the first time and it is amazing. And yes the tunnel of trees in the summer is much better, I think we only saw a car or two during that journey. Anyway, great video Staci, journey well.
My Stacey and I rode the Tunnel of Trees on our lap around Lake Michigan quite a few years ago. We really enjoyed it but we also did not go with it as a destination, we actually went back north for it as we found out about it while we were on the ride and were in Charlevoix, yes it was a bit ritzy it was nice. We got into town the night of the mayfly hatch and they were horrible! It was also cherry season when we were there and the washed cherry stands had the absolute best cherries I have ever had! Thanks for bringing up a great memory.
omg the mayfly hatch. AHHHHH! i'm glad y'all get to get some cherries!! it was Honeycrisp Apple season and I truly wish I would have stopped to grab one or two, but the days are so short in the fall that I was always chasing the sunlight. So glad y'all have gotten to ride up there!
Come to New Hampshire in middle October . Made for bikes in the twisties and the color will blow your socks off . ride the Kanc , an adventure of a lifetime . Love your vid .
This is the first time one of your videos has been in an area I'm familiar with, I have family in the area. It's fun to go 'Oh, I know that road/restaurant!' rather than the 'oh, I want to go ride that road/restaurant!' For anyone riding the M-119, watch out for the turkeys.
I know you were probably short on time, but I hope you had a chance to visit the coastal roads all the way down the west coast along Lake Michigan. There are so many great small beach towns. Do your next trip during the summer so that you can experience swimming at the many beaches along the way.
You nailed it in Charlevoix…. It’s like a movie town, very upscale. Petosky not so much…. Traverse City is a step between Petosky and Charlevoix. I hope you got to stop at Torch lake… it is constantly voted one of the most beautiful lakes in the country. It’s right next to Traverse City. M-109 is the route that shoots off M-22 for the peninsula. Very cool trip….
No torch lake on this trip but I have heard great things!! I was too distracted looking at all the apple stands on the side of the road lol! Wish I would have stopped but I was so pressed for time with the short Fall days!
I don’t know when you went through obviously it wasn’t two days ago, but it is incredibly difficult to go through the tunnel of trees while the colors are showing without encountering just a ridiculous amount of traffic. I’ve tried all seven days ranging from eight in the morning till six in the evening, which are pretty much the daylight hours that time of year and the traffic’s always pretty brutal.
This is wonderful, hi I'm new to your channel what a beautiful ride that was, I'm from Michigan but moved south 27 years ago, I still love vacationing up there it's one of the prettiest states. It would be fun someday to do a ride together up there, there are definitely places that most tourists don't know about that are hidden gems.
we ate at Leggs Inn on the last day of the season. It was cold inside because they do not heat the building except space heaters in the bathrooms. We found the food average and would not return there
I live in Metro Detroit hadn’t been up to TC in about a decade and it had changed so much. Last time I went up there were two small bars now there are micro breweries and antique shops everywhere and million dollar condos. It’s both good and bad I suppose. I need to ride the tree tunnel next year I have a V7 Guzzi!
Sorry to hear the tunnel of tree's was underwhelming. I have property about a mile from Legs Inn and have ridden Tunnel of Tree's for most of my life -- it can be a great ride when there isn't so much traffic - have rubbed my casings on the road in many of those tight corners --- just have to hit it at the right time. Agree on the rt 22 ride as awesome --- I also lived on the Leelanau Peninsula for a couple years and there is great riding in that entire area. Too bad you were in such a hurry through this awesome part of Michigan - just north of Legs Inn is Sturgeon Bay - awesome dunes and often no people. then Harbor Springs and Petoskey both have great restaurants - even for us normal folks. Petoskey State Park is a gem! Enjoy the ride!!! :)
@@ridetofoodI saw that in my recommendations but I thought it was a previous video that I watched recently. I’ll go back and watch! I love riding the grate. On Labor Day every year, my family and I walk that bridge when they open it up to pedestrians for 6 hours.
Thank you for sharing! I absolutely loved this video (makes me want to ride my Harley to Michigan to see all the breath taking views you got to see). Sorry if I have asked this before but what camera did you use to film this? I bought a 4k sport cam sorta like a go pro but not sure I’m liking it. I do have an Insta 360 I will be getting set up on both my bikes very soon. Until the next one ride safe ma’am thank you again for the beautiful views!!!
I was just through that way about 6 weeks prior to you. I will concede that it was an absolute downpour when we went through it, but I was not impressed with the Tunnel of Trees either. The road was not in great condition, and the rain absolutely ruined any majesty it might have. I will say though that I absolutely loved M22. Nice twists and turns that were not too technical, but it just seemed to go on and on. Of course, even having been through there you have offered me new places to go to and put on the list to visit. If I may return the favor, I would like to offer you some places to explore, if you choose, if/when you return to the general area. 1) Redamak's - New Buffalo, MI. offers gourmet burgers and other great food. 2) Love's Homemade Ice cream in Grand Rapids. 3) Ludington Bay Brewing Company, Ludington, MI. - Outstanding food, and some great craft beers. I highly recommend the Sour Cherry Berliner, and the Tangelo Dream Pale Ale. 4) The Hook Lakeside Grill, Mackinaw City - It's a more than a bit pricey, but they offer some outstanding food and drinks. You have recommended so many places that I have been to, the least I can do is to return the favor. Thank you again for an outstanding video. You do amazing work.
I live in Michigan and have ridden many of these roads by car and my Harley's. The tunnel of trees is a must ride but I think it's overrated. Great video.
2:25 You mentioned 'no bugs'. Can you tell me 'when' this was filmed? I'm in Ohio (with friends in Michigan) and I want to ride the Tunnel Of Trees. I have not yet motorcycle camped. (I'm enough of an experienced camper, but haven't motorcycle camped) I prefer to camp in the spring or fall...so I avoid BUGS! Thanks (you may have mentioned when this was filmed, but I'm only at 2:30)
Thank you! Sometimes it gets annoying, I prefer to stay in one spot for a couple nights to make it more worth my while. But then I think of the money I saved by taking 30-45 minutes to tear up and pack down and I’m like…ok it was worth it now let’s go blow that money on a snack snack 😂
Awesome video! Love your channel... If your ever over in Canada, bluewater Sarnia area I'd love to ride with you... i just have a tiny youtube channel but it would be a great ride!
You missed out on Beards brewery in Petoskey. Yuppies have ruined traverse city. It used to be way better. I probably rode M-22 4 times last year. Always a good day ride coming from the Muskegon area. The tunnel is definitely overrated. Still end up doing it once a year, usually in the fall, and some how it usually ends up being cold and rainy. Which cuts down on the amount of traffic out there. 🤣
Who told you the tunnel of trees was the most scenic in Michigan? It's just a fall color ride, not even close to the best in Michigan. So many other great scenic roads.
Tunnel of Trees is ok, certainly not our best ride. M22 is great, however m26, US41, H58, the porcupine mountains (numerous roads) are all better in IMHO
The Tunnel of Trees runs from Cross Village to Harbor Springs*** Apologies for that mistake in the Voiceover! Look at me being human and making mistakes!
I love you for this. You are the very best of us all Staci. Keep being you. You make me smile very much.
Awesome Staci! Greatly appreciate you sharing your journeys! P.S. I love your calendar! Thanks
Staci, What were the dates of your trip? The bugs do suck in the summer, I would like to visit without the bugs. Thank you
lol - not many Michiganders know it ends in Harbor Springs
What makes Michigan so cool are the majestic inland seas that surround her. Nothing quite like it anywhere in the world !
It really is unique!!
I live in Michigan and really you did give a good prospective view about the places I need to ride to. Thank you
Yay! Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!
M22 is my favorite Summer weekend ride👍🫶🪶
Awesome!!
You are good at explaining and have a great voice. The high-definition scenery is also fantastic.
Thank you!
Also, puh-tah-ski (petoskey) and shar-la-voy (charlevoix) 😊
If I remember that for next time I will be impressed with myself lol!! Thanks

I just rode this exact route last year for the first time and it is amazing. And yes the tunnel of trees in the summer is much better, I think we only saw a car or two during that journey. Anyway, great video Staci, journey well.
Awesome!! I'm glad you've gotten to enjoy it! Especially with less traffic lol!
Yep that's the top "leaf peeping" destination in the country! lol
Wow, great video!
Thank you!!
You have the same vibe as " Itchy Boots". Michigan Up North is beautiful. See you soon , Thanks .
Thank ya!
Love the video!👍🏻
Thank you!! 🤘
This is the first time one of your videos has been in an area I'm familiar with, I have family in the area. It's fun to go 'Oh, I know that road/restaurant!' rather than the 'oh, I want to go ride that road/restaurant!' For anyone riding the M-119, watch out for the turkeys.
And the deer!
Glad you enjoyed it 😊🤘
I know you were probably short on time, but I hope you had a chance to visit the coastal roads all the way down the west coast along Lake Michigan. There are so many great small beach towns. Do your next trip during the summer so that you can experience swimming at the many beaches along the way.
I did ride some of it but I cant remember which ones lol! definitely want to visit in the summer on a future trip!
Such an inspiration! 😊
Thank you 🫶😊🏍️💨
You nailed it in Charlevoix….
Yeah the traffic was nuts lol
This is wonderful, hi I'm new to your channel what a beautiful ride that was, I'm from Michigan but moved south 27 years ago, I still love vacationing up there it's one of the prettiest states. It would be fun someday to do a ride together up there, there are definitely places that most tourists don't know about that are hidden gems.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
we ate at Leggs Inn on the last day of the season. It was cold inside because they do not heat the building except space heaters in the bathrooms. We found the food average and would not return there
Glad you got to cross it off your list!
You did really good with Charlevoix it’s Voy at the end! 😊. I feel like Traverse City is for Rich people too now. Wasn’t always that way.
TC felt a little touristy for sure!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yes! Rode past sturgeon bay on the way to cross village in the morning. Nice quiet country riding!! Definitely will be back when I have more time 🤘
@@ridetofood Next time your in Cross Village - try Moose Jaw Junction - great food, usually some bikes and four wheelers parked out front! :)
Hi Stacey! When you come to Colorado and ride. Wish I could ride with you...BTW great content! ☺
Thank you!
How was the ride across the Mighty Mac? Did you ride the grate?
I talk about and ride it in my UP video! 🤘
I use a lot of different cameras! You can ride my gear list at ridetofood.com/camera-gear
Ur just so amazing I love ur content thank u again
Thank you!
You do amazing work.
definitely gonna have to add these to my map!!! Thank you :)
Holy cow I had no idea the tunnel of trees was there... went many times to Petoskey... I should of ventured more north. Bucket list for sure now .
🤘 add it to the list!
Went this year its was lovely 😢tree didn’t change fully yet
Hopefully it was a little less crowded since they hadn’t turned! Shew it got so crowded so fast!
@ ah yess it stays crowded sunday are the best days is still crowded but it’s not unbearable
My home state 🎉
Check out chimney loop and float the ausable river
I live in Michigan and have ridden many of these roads by car and my Harley's. The tunnel of trees is a must ride but I think it's overrated. Great video.
agreed!
great ride mate loved it..... & yer lm the same when it come's to lots of people.... ld rather hang with the dog...lol.. cheers mate
Thanks (you may have mentioned when this was filmed, but I'm only at 2:30)
October! Peak colors hit at different times in the month every year though
@@ridetofood Living my whole life in the mid-west, I kind of figured it was October. Thanks
Are you bothered setting up and tearing down then repacking all the time? You have cool camping gear btw.
Thank you! Sometimes it gets annoying, I prefer to stay in one spot for a couple nights to make it more worth my while. But then I think of the money I saved by taking 30-45 minutes to tear up and pack down and I’m like…ok it was worth it now let’s go blow that money on a snack snack 😂
Taco on left looked good was that fried fish or chicken.??
🍱👀👍👍
Fish!
👊
This is the best life.
👍
🤘⚡️🤘✨✨✨✨
Awesome video! Love your channel...
If your ever over in Canada, bluewater Sarnia area I'd love to ride with you... i just have a tiny youtube channel but it would be a great ride!
I haven't made it to canada yet!!
Do they have food at the beardy brewery?! I don’t really drink anymore. Oops!
@ridetofood yeah. Fancy pizza, etc. those tacos looked good but beards brewery would have been better.
I barely drink myself. But bars seem to have some of the best food.
Another great video. Hear you on the people, especially allergic to those with high opinions of themselves. Couldn’t spell boucshwa..so.
Hahaha, it’s “bougie” I think. 😉🤘
The pronunciations of Petoskey (puh·taa·skee) and Charlevoix (shaar·luh·voy) are killing me 😂. Michigan town names are always pronounced weird...
Yeah I did zero research on those pronunciations 😂😂😂😂
I like - invitada a colombia 🇨🇴
Thank you!
Привет, давно тебя небыло
I’ve never been on a consistent publishing schedule lol
Who told you the tunnel of trees was the most scenic in Michigan? It's just a fall color ride, not even close to the best in Michigan. So many other great scenic roads.
✨google it✨
Tunnel of Trees is ok, certainly not our best ride. M22 is great, however m26, US41, H58, the porcupine mountains (numerous roads) are all better in IMHO
Lots of great roads in Michigan for sure!
