Introduced in 1963, the Mercedes-Benz 600, internally designated the W100, had few peers apart from the new Rolls-Royce Phantom V. It featured a new 6,332-cc overhead-cam V-8, a dry-sump design with Bosch mechanical fuel injection that developed 245 hp, as well as air suspension for a wonderful ‘boulevard ride’ and a high-pressure hydraulic system that provided every power assist imaginable. Smooth, quiet, and comfortable, it was a magnificent machine in every way.
For customers for whom the standard 126-in.-wheelbase 600 sedan was not imposing enough, there was the long-wheelbase, 153.5-in. Pullman model, available with either four or six doors and a ‘conversation pit’-style rear compartment. Just 487 Pullmans were produced through 1981, although only a few were built, all to individual special order, following 1972. Many were delivered new to various rulers and heads of state worldwide, and some of them remain, well-maintained and still highly impressive, in government fleets to this day.

The quality extends to the color combination. Any gentleman with a navy blue suit knows you need burgundy leather shoes. And just look at that burgundy interior. Delicious. 👌🏼

Classic luxury car..
I owned one of these cars, traded it in 1979 for a 1970 Chevelle SS Convertable, 454 LS7 460 hp, 4 speed, posi rear end, Full options. Still have the Chevelle. always wondered where my 600 limo wound up.
Hopefully somebody who knows the Pullman grabbed it. They are a PITA to repair correctly, especially the hydraulic system, which is basically everything on the car. Outside of the Mercedes Classic Restoration Center, I think there's only 3 mechanics in the US capable of repairing these cars, to factory spec, or better. They really were something. No expense spared. Good luck with that Chevelle SS! Nice car!
yeah, i remember that car. the charming goofball who traded me his limo for an old chevelle. a very nice chevelle, of course, but the reasoning always baffled me a bit. anyways, a few months after i got the keys i sent it off to Les Dunham to get her decked out with those chrome Cadillac Sunglasses and some various other odds and ends. came out absolutely breathtaking. i remember sometime in the mid '80s this, shall we call him a "street entrepreneur" who had mucked up some of my dealings in the mid seventies finally but the dust and i showed up at his memorial service personally in the Benz with my best aviator sunglasses and Louis Boston overcoat to show his "associates" that their shenanigans never even slowed me down. i bought several of his cars off of his mechanic later that week.
i'm glad to hear the Chevelle still has a home in your garage, you sure were excited when you came to pick her up. here's to many more wonderful rides for the both of you

Virtually NOTHING came close back then, & CERTAINLY not now. Maybe the Silver Shadow, was sort of the 600's competitor, but for today, I'd rather have a W-100 any day.
