It is not necessary you repeat it all along, generally when you repeat wastage is less but i feel it should also complement the outer finish of the cabinets! So i prefer selecting it according to outer finish.

So nice of you, minimum - try not to go more than 2ft width per shutter that is around 8ft of wardrobe space with regular bifold fittings

Is pu finish always more expensive than laminates or there are exceptions and economical pu finish options are available
Pu finish is more time taking and expensive.. if you want to go for economical option try enamel paint for matt finish
