I also did it in one day in late June, in 2016. To this day, it’s my favorite day hike I’ve ever done. The most “epic” part was descending into the Thorsmork valley from the glacier, and I recommend everyone does the hike in that direction, starting at Skogafoss, for that reason. My knees felt like they were gonna fall off too - that snow is a killer!

Thanks for sharing! How did you get back from Thorsmork?

Adventures in Aviators I think the same as what you did but the opposite. Bus from Thorsmork to Seljalandsfoss, then Seljalandsfoss back to Skogafoss.

I did it in one day as a kid, we were told that you didn't have to sleep in the cabin unless you really wanted to, then you could make it a 2-day hike

I plan on doing this exact same hike in June. How did you guys get bus tickets from Skoga to Selj and then to Thorsmok? Wife and I plan on camping around skogafoss and getting the first bus in morning to get us to thorsmok as soon as we can so we can hike back to skoga in 1 day as well

Hi Zachary - I believe we bought them from the booth at Skoga. They had schedules and everything there. Have a blast!

Great video!! Is the cats spine as steep of a drop off as it looks in the video?I have a fear of heights so kind of dreading that part

The scariest (most narrow) part of the trail has a steep drop to one side but a rock wall on the other side, with a chain to hold on to attached. Just take it slow and lean towards the wall, and you‘ll be fine. The part shown in this video isn’t quite as narrow or scary as it appears in the video, at least not that I recall. :)

Do you have access to river water or waterfall waters to drink from on this hike?

I do not recall many times when the river was easily accessible. Definitely bring you own water to be safe 👍

I haven't done this hike yet, but people seem to recommend you to carry water for the whole hike as there aren't many (or any) water sources.
