  • I was asked to add this to the Christmas lineup this season and I learned that it isn't specifically a Christmas song, but there's a message here for all of us.

    This song was originally written for Cher by Diane Warren, but never was used. Diane Warren and Kevin Olusola rewrote this song together to fit Pentatonix. They did an incredible job.

    Thanks for reacting to Pentatonix again. Actually they did include a string section on this track. They are starting to use a bit more instrumentals in their work. Also, PTX always includes on their Christmas albums songs that are not actual Christmas songs. These may be songs with a wintry feel, or feel good songs, or songs with a message.

      This album, in particular, they said they used instruments because of the inclusion of so many different cultures and guest artists. I don’t think they’re moving toward using instruments regularly though.

    Pentatonix bringing love and light to this world ❤️🙌🙌. As others have said, they did use stings on this one and in a lot of other songs on their new album Holidays Around the World. I think they’ve proven they can do true a cappella at this point, I love that they’re fusing their brilliant vocals and exploring with instruments ❤️

      @B Fly I'm well aware of Sweet with John Batiste and Dianne Warren. I'm not sure there's another song ptx did background for her. They released sweet 2 different times with her months apart. All I was originally saying was Cher recorded this 5 years ago and it sounds like exactly the same song except for the verse Matt does that was added by Kevin. I was just clarifying he didn't write it because it was already written. Did he add a verse? Sure.

    Hi Cutie
    Yes finally some Pentatonix. I think that they evolve so much. They have always been great but their voices are more mature now. I love them so much. And the lyrics are powerful.
    Life aint easy. I have been sick so long now after covid that I dont get much money. As a single mum Im struggeling. I skip some of my medicine to save money, I always give food to my kid but 1-2times a week I cant afford to eat myself. I cant give stuff to others becouse I dont have any money. But I can be a good person. I can give love, time and a helping hand to others. I can be a sholder to cry on, lissen to your problems, make someone smile or laugh. There is so much I can still do to people around me.

    They do occasionally bring in instruments...Kevin on the Cello, Scott on the Piano, Matt on Drums. There are definitely strings in this one. They had violins accompany them performing this at the Hollywood Bowl. And Diane Warren wrote this. They are the first to sing it tho so not a cover.

    • @moragcarnie843
      @moragcarnie843 2 года назад +1

      Cher sang it, with a children's choir, in a documentary about Syria in 2017 (Cries From Syria) - you can easily find her version on youtube. However, she chose not to distribute it (I read somewhere that she didn't like her own vocal; but possibly, given the context, she also didn't want to monetize it). Diane Warren therefore retained the rights, and she also added a short bridge - the part that Matt sings - that's not in Cher's version. So, even though PTX are not the first to sing the song, they are the first to publish/distribute it for sale, and the change made by its original songwriter apparently means that they can technically claim it as an original. As for their wholesale abandonment of acapella in favour of instruments all through their latest album - it's an interesting experiment. Not sure how much pushback they're going to get from acapella fans about it. Personally I really like the songs on the new album, and I think we're looking at the beginning of PTX 3.0, if you think of the Avi years as PTX 1.0, and the first 5 years of Matt as PTX 2.0.

    • @taniareads8751
      @taniareads8751 2 года назад

      @@moragcarnie843 good point about the evolution of PTX. I love their A Capella work, enjoy very much their collabs with Lindsay Sterling and using one off instruments a la Kevin and Scott, but have to admit, the latest album is not a favourite. I get trying new avenues and exploring different directions. Just my opinion, I like the A Capella work even if it's layered as in the Lucky Ones Deluxe (Anchor, OMG!) I hope they don't bring in too many instruments or other artists. I want to hear PTX!

  • @ruth2141
    @ruth2141 2 года назад +4

    It's hard to realized on first listen when you are concentrating on the vocals, but there is a string section backing them up. They have used strings or choirs for a fuller sound before, especially on the holiday albums. And the last couple of years they have been experimenting with instruments, vocal engineering, and synths on some songs.

    Kevin collaborated with an associate Dianne Warren to bring this amazing song to the voices that could truly bring it to light. This might not be a "normal" Christmas song for PTX, but it is still a very powerful song and you easily appreciated the subliminal meanings.

    Yeah, there’s a string section in this song. Some of their newer music uses instrumentation. Their new Holidays Around The World album features many artists and instruments. The focus is still on the vocals.
    The other video from this album, Kid On Christmas featuring Meghan Trainor, is the most unPentatonix song I’ve heard. It’s still a banger and I recommend it.
    Also, recommend their track of Silent Night featuring The King’s Singers from this album. It’s a cappella.

    To be honest I was skeptical about Pentatonix when I first heard them in one of your videos. Their vocals are great of course but it kinda felt like it wasn't really my cup of tea. Probably because I had my mind closed mainly to rap. Then I realized how stupid I was... I really love your rap reactions because I know most of those tracks already, but I'm equally (or even more?) excited when I can hear masterpieces like this for the first time.
    Love it!
    P.S. (Another update, hope I'm not bothering you too much with these 😄)
    On yesterday's session I asked my therapist if it would be good for me to begin to slowly take my happy mask off, that I was thinking about it since last sesh and I think I might be ready to show my real self in front of my friends. He was shocked, he never thought I would be willing to make such huge step that fast. He said that it would be great because pretending I'm good while I'm really not makes me even more depressed... and asked me what makes me wanting to open up so quickly. The answer was simple... I just love the version of myself here, in these comments where I don't have to pretend anything and it would be amazing to be that version in real life.

Out of everyone in the group mitch can bring out the emotion in the audience.
