Just inked up a brand new M805 ST in striking blue with an EF nib and can't believe how impressive this pen is. Writes perfectly. Thanks for convincing me to catch a Pelikan finally!
I wanted to thank you for your review. I just purchased an M600, which I very much like. Up until now, I have only owned 200 series Pelikan's. This is my first higher end Pelikan and I must say it was well worth the investment. Thank you again for your always helpful reviews.
Stephen, I purchased this exact model & colour at the beginning of this year (2018). it is as you say, consistent in quality with all of the Souveran range, as well as the smaller (yet still very fine) Pelikan fountain pens. As soon as I saw the 600 in that red stripe finish, the attraction was instantaneous; having large hands was not an issue in this case, because posted, it is more than sufficient, but I would concur in making the posting of same a little deeper. Of course, when you put this review together, Pelikan were winding down their wider nib range, now, four years hence, I was only able to secure a broad - the sizes below this are still all available. It is a fantastic writing experience, & for those seeking to upgrade from an existing Pelikan, then this is an ideal choice - even if you have to save up for it, it is well worth the moneys. My only word of warning, if you will, is that the M600 series can only interchange with other M600 nibs - but as (you) are aware, with the M200''s & M400's - swap all day long to your heart's content. Excellent unit from a world class manufacturer !! Thank you for such a great overview :)
I was always longing for an m600 review from you, and here it is! thank you. Although I can't afford either, the debate between m600 and m800 continues for me. Definitely a 'someday' pen.
Ok. As soon as I got to the point when you mentioned the possible Pelikan range shootout I had to pause the review to tell you I think the idea is brilliant! I have carried a M800 for over a year and love it and I have a M200 & vintage M100N (not sure if the"M" should preface that last one). Wonderful high quality pens, but I've been toying with the idea of a M1000 or M600 so 'd find that shootout tremendously helpful. Again, fabulous reviews so please do continue & thanks for the time and effort you put into making these available.
A little pelikan model trivia for you sometimes isnt known. The 200 pens and 400 are the exact same size. What differentiates them are the trim, resins and steel vs gold nibs. However the nibs are interchangeable and in fact even though the 600 nib is slightly larger than the 400 nib the section housing is the same size. I actually own a limited taupe m205 with a gold cursive italic 600 nib Binder ground for me. It's subtle but amazing how much cooler looking the 200/400 sized bodies look with a 600 nib
Great review as usual. I have a M600 Green o' Green finish, fine, that I love and that is one of the best writers that I have amongst a small collection I about 3 dozen pens. The nib is really beautiful and eye catching. Thanks for the thorough review.
A good friend recently gave me his green M600 with an EF nib. I'm a fan of italics, but I find the Pelikan to be the best writer of all my pens - an absolute joy to use as well as classically beautiful. I love the red barrel version in your review and that ink. Thanks Stephen - I look forward to your Pelikan Shootout.
I have never been sure of the pronunciation of "souveraen" (no German keyboard) because I have never seen the "ou" vowel combination in German. I've been learning German for about 3 years now (I basically know how to speak the language, I just need to massively expand my vocabulary).
Couldn't spring for the m600, but did snag an m400 in this red & black. This video (and the shootout with you and Aziza) made me do it. Gorgeous finish, wonderful writer, a classic fountain pen no fountain pen person would regret. Thanks for all the informative vids!
Hi Stephen! I too love this finish on the Souverän series! I purchased a minimally used red M800 yesterday. I hear they don't make them anymore, so you'll have to check the secondhand market if you really want one and I heavily suggest you do, since you like the finish. It's quite stunning and is a great size, although I do wish they made red M1000s. The nib on mine is quite stiff despite being 18k. I got a fine and the tines were quite tight, but that wasn't anything your video on making nibs wetter couldn't fix. So thank you for that and for your review!
Oh, and about the Pel shootout, a small recommendation? If you could throw in a bunch of common/prolific pens for measure, that'd be a huge help when picking a good size.
Drats, sbrebrown, you work fast. I blame all the people who were practically begging for the shootout XD It's cool, though! I could pick one of the models up eventually and use that as a reference :))
Thanks Stephen. Good timing, as I am just about to start saving some money to buy my first "expensive" fountain pen, and this is on the top of my list! I do wish they have the M600 in the white tortoise finish though (they used to, but quite difficult to find).
Hey Steven thank you for your great reviews. I would like to tell you that a shooutout between all Souveran models would be great, because I still couldn't decide between M400 and M600. Cheers.
Thank you! I enjoy watching your reviews. I also love Pelikan brand. I have the eternal ice (600), a splid blue M600 and an M400 in the red stripes. I DO notice that the cap unscrews in my pocket on all three of those... otherwise, they're great pens as everyday writers and as collection pieces.
Very nice pen, though I like it better in the green striped version. Thats a question of taste though. I really enjoy your new way of pronounciating "Souverän" as Pelikan clearly is german and not french. Thank you very much. Have a great day!
Them dropping the transparent stripes for seeing the piston and ink level recently was such a weird move in my opinion. It is what made those pens fun and unique.
I do rather like my Pelikans and always have at least one in rotation. Like you, my hands are on the large size so my M600 and my 800 get the most carry; the 400 is just a bit small for me (and mine at least has not as smooth as nib as the 600/800). Every so often I think of getting an M200 "for the collection" but pretty sure it won't see much use.
Hello Stephen, would I have to pay customs (in The Netherlands) if I ordered from thepencompany? I'm assuming not and that's why you recommend them for European citizens but just wanted to check. Thanks for another vid :P
Speaking of converters getting dislodged, that actually happened to the pump converter on my Ahab earlier today when I checked how much ink it had left. Long story short, I had Smurf hands for a good few hours :P It's an eyedropper filler now XD Thanks for the review!
I look forward to a shootout amongst the various Pelikans. Thanks for a fine review, Stephen. I was holding my M600 Blue Ocean in my hands as you were speaking, noting the various details as you mentioned them. I think the red pen is particularly attractive, and now I’m trying to figure out how to get one.
Hi , i would like you at first to thank you for your very useful videos. I have a question wich may has benn put .) As i look for a very smooth fountain pen , i have bought a waterman hemisphere , but i am a little bit disappointed , because the nib is not so smooth ( it scratches a lot when you begin to write ), although the form of the hemisphere is very good(comfortable and the weight is very pleasant). So i wonder what could be the best fountain pen , under 100 euro , with a very smooth nib ; that is the quetion. Thanks a lot.
I don't know how I missed this review but it's awesome. I have bought the pen in the green, and it's my favorite journaling pen. Since I carry it every day, and keep inking it, how often do you suggest I empty and clean it? (I always clean my pens before putting them away, but in this case I never put it away - LOL. Thank you for all that you do!
Hello, i prefer my pens to be wetter writers so i want to ask how M600 perform after 3-4 pages of continuous use? Does it keep the ink flowing or it runs significantly dryer at the end? Thanks
Stephen, why have you changed your way of writing the letter 'f'? It was what I always noticed about your writing samples. Anyway, keep up the great videos, even after over a year of watching I am still being entertained and educated. Thanks!
Hi, I have a suggestion if you may. I mainly use my pens at work (Government) on regular or printer paper and it would be lovely if you can do a writing sample on these lower grade papers so we can know what is the performance of the pen and specially on the smaller nibs F-M if possible. It's just because we don't have shops that carry most brand and I have to order online abroad.
sbrebrown I suppose that would work. I was wondering because I like wet writers and I have very fine handwriting which a broader nib would consume. I also did not want the scratchy feeling of some fines. I wonder if a Japanese medium would do me some good.
Nate Blubaugh You might love a Pilot 845 Medium. It's super smooth and wet. And it writes a fine line. I can use it to write complex Chinese characters in 7mm lines.
Sean Yuan Thanks for recommending this to me. I figured a good Japanese medium would suit quite well for my writing habits and preferences. I will check out the Pilot 845. Thanks again :)
I am struggling between the M600 and the 1911 large by Sailor for daily usage. I have a 1911 large with Naginata Togi nib, and I like super soft nibs. I read some articles online, some people think M600 is softer, but others say Sailor's 21K nib is softer, so I am kind of confused. In terms of your writing experience, would you please give me so recommendations? Thank you!
Would you please recommend some soft nib pen for daily writing to me? Additionally, if you have to make a decision between those two, would you prefer the M600 or 21K? Thanks
Chunyue Yang I'd probably prefer the 1911. If you want a flex nib for everyday use, consider the Fountain Pen Revolution pens with a flex nib or a vintage 14k flex nib.
yes, ive watched it, but could you do a video on your fountain pens that you use the most, maybe not your best ones necessarily, and narrow it down to 3/4 pens. That wold be very useful for me even though im only a kid, im still a fountain pen enthusiast and i fing myself a lot like you so a vid on your top pens that you use daily would be much appreciated and very helpful. Thanks.
mr brown have you ever interchange the nibs of the m600 to the m200, i`m considering doing that but i dont know if that would work, so i´m wondering if you ever try to do that.
hi sbrebrown...i have a quick question for you....my pelikan m600 extra fine is amazing. I do have a small problem...it lays down a very nice and wet stroke from left to right and top to bottom...but the right to left and bottom to top stroke is the exact opposite. its dry and very thin....barely visible....i do not know what to do about this...please let me know if you have any suggestions...thanks
sbrebrown oh...i just had it delivered by joost (appelboom is the best)to the other end of the world so i will have to try and fix it myself somehow. maybe i can try a little grind on some grit paper. have you ever come across an issue like this?
Hi Stephen, I am really curious about your Pelikan Souverän shootout. Thank you in advance for that. It is sad that Pelikan will narrow their nib portfolio. Hello there!!! I just love your videos!!! I have recently purchased a Pelikan Souveran M600 with an extra fine nib, and i can tell you I am already obsessed with it.. It is such a smooth writer... Just inked up a brand new M805 ST in striking blue with an EF nib and can't believe how impressive this pen is. Writes perfectly. Thanks for convincing me to catch a Pelikan finally!
When you said "Souverän" I thought that you are a native speaker. Good job!
I wanted to thank you for your review. I just purchased an M600, which I very much like. Up until now, I have only owned 200 series Pelikan's. This is my first higher end Pelikan and I must say it was well worth the investment. Thank you again for your always helpful reviews.

Yes, these are nice pens.
3:11 with it's baby. So cute 😆😆. Love the accent
Ok. As soon as I got to the point when you mentioned the possible Pelikan range shootout I had to pause the review to tell you I think the idea is brilliant! I am a large fan of Pelikan too.

I do believe the ou is relatively uncommon in German.
A shoot out between the pelikan pens sounds epic!! Great review Mr.Brown!
I'll get working on it.
Couldn't spring for the m600, but did snag an m400 in this red & black. This video (and the shootout with you and Aziza) made me do it. Gorgeous finish, wonderful writer, a classic fountain pen no fountain pen person would regret. Thanks for all the informative vids!
Zoo Ver Aan? Is this correct? A great easy to use pen, regardless of the difficult pronunciation.
I have about 50 or so fountain pens and my favorite by far is my Pelikan with a customized binde made of Conway Stewart casein. Have fun with it.
Thank you!
Hi Stephen! I too love this finish on the Souverän series! I purchased a minimally used red M800 yesterday. I hear they don't make them anymore, so you'll have to check the secondhand market if you really want one and I heavily suggest you do, since you like the finish. You're very welcome!
Yes, Great Idea on Showing the Full Souveran Series!!!!
It will be done.
Very nice. I have the Tortoise (white or otherwise) m600 on my wishlist. I love my m805, but I'd like to try the 600 line as well.
It's quite nice, the M600. Bit smallish, but a lovely nib.
Matt, what possible use could you have for an M600
The same as any pen: to write with.
The Pen Habit lol
Oh, and about the Pel shootout, a small recommendation? If you could throw in a bunch of common/prolific pens for measure, that'd be a huge help when picking a good size.
Sorry, just shot the video today... But I do compare the sizes of the pens to each other.
Drats, sbrebrown, you work fast. I blame all the people who were practically begging for the shootout XD
It's cool, though!
That's a stunning finish.
An m605 Stressman will hopefully be my first golf nib once it releases :)
Hey Steven thank you for your great reviews. I would like to tell you that a shooutout between all Souveran models would be great, because I still couldn't decide between M400 and M600. Cheers.
I have done such a shootout :-). I don't have a link here, but you can find a link on my website!
+sbrebrown Thanks for the information. Watching it right now. Have a nice day :)
what is the production cost is the most important question here.
I love them too!
I think if you can publish a book about fountain pens will be a massive success ;)
Very nice pen, though I like it better in the green striped version. Thats a question of taste though. I really enjoy your new way of pronounciating "Souverän" as Pelikan clearly is german and not french.
Thank you very much. Have a great day!
You're welcome!
Them dropping the transparent stripes for seeing the piston and ink level recently was such a weird move in my opinion. It is what made those pens fun and unique.
Would love to see videos on the full line up of pelican pens
It's a beauty, a perfect mid size pen, it's my daily writer in passion red, filled with "Café des îles" from J.Herbin, makes me happy !
I do rather like my Pelikans and always have at least one in rotation. Like you, my hands are on the large size so my M600 and my 800 get the most carry; the 400 is just a bit small for me (and mine at least has not as smooth as nib as the 600/800). No, you should be fine: the Pen Company is UK-based so you don't have to pay import duties.
Speaking of converters getting dislodged, that actually happened to the pump converter on my Ahab earlier today when I checked how much ink it had left. Long story short, I had Smurf hands for a good few hours :P
It's an eyedropper filler now XD
Thanks for the review!
The M600 is perfect size for carrying in a jacket pocket. Bit thin for me, but a great everyday carry pen.
Yes, I do like the size.
I am really interested in pelikan so a shoot out between all the m series pens would be very much appreciated.
The video is out there: Fountain Pen Shootout 67 A Flock of Pelikans :-)!
sbrebrown thanks for the link. My initial search didn't turn it up... whoops
Hi , i would like you at first to thank you for your very useful videos. I have a question wich may has benn put .) I would clean it every 4-6 weeks or whenever you won't use it for more than two weeks.
Nice review (as always)! I have one question. Is Pelikan Shanghai similar to M600? I have this pen. It is a very beautiful one!
Thank you! The Shanghai is similar in size to the M600.
Hello, i prefer my pens to be wetter writers so i want to ask how M600 perform after 3-4 pages of continuous use? Does it keep the ink flowing or it runs significantly dryer at the end? Thanks

I'll see what I can do, but most of my pens have broad nibs.
Thank you very much for trying.
Do you tend to use B or BB nibs for all of your daily writing / note taking exc.??
Typically, yes.
I love the color of the pen, Reminds me of Mortal Kombat for some reason...
Fatality!
Thanks for sharing and I would really like the shot out.
It's shot, so it'll be uploaded in the near future.
I want the performance of a medium and the width of a fine. What shall I do?
Get a fine and smooth it?
sbrebrown I suppose that would work.
Do you really use double broad nibs for normal writing? To me even medium nibs are too broad.
Yes I do.
Hello! Is the internal piston mechanism of Pelikan M600 made of plastic of some sort or of brass (like in Pelikan M800)?
I thought it was plastic.
Excellent review again! Thank you !
Thank you!
For the same price as the m600 what other pen would you recommend?
A simple Visconti?
sbrebrown Thanks. I'm pondering purchasing a pen in that price range and am exploring possibilities (lots of "p"s there, I know).
Thank you!
Chunyue Yang I don't consider either of those nibs super soft.
Got it, thank you so much
Beautiful color, great pen, and as always an awesome video. Not as awesome as Lord Windermere's ice bucket challenge, but still quite nice! :)
Thank you :-).
I have a medium 600 that was pretty much AMAZING!!!!!!!! Did I meantion REALLY REALLY GOOD! no skippy. Just writes well.
I love Pelikan.
please could you do a vid about a few of the pens/inks that you write with the most?
Check out my GOAT Pens video for that!
yes, ive watched it, but could you do a video on your fountain pens that you use the most, maybe not your best ones necessarily, and narrow it down to 3/4 pens.
I haven't tried it.
Great video! Can't wait to see the Souveran shootout.
It has been shot, so it'll be uploaded in the near future.
Very nice review, thank you
Stephen, please do the shootout among the Pelikans!
It's shot. I expect it to go up next week.
hi sbrebrown...i have a quick question for you....my pelikan m600 extra fine is amazing. I do have a small problem...it lays down a very nice and wet stroke from left to right and top to bottom...but the right to left and bottom to top stroke is the exact opposite. its dry and very thin....barely visible....i do not know what to do about this...please let me know if you have any suggestions...thanks
There may be an unevenness on the nib, but this sounds complicated, so maybe you should send it to a nibmeister.
sbrebrown oh...i just had it delivered by joost (appelboom is the best)to the other end of the world so i will have to try and fix it myself somehow. maybe i can try a little grind on some grit paper. have you ever come across an issue like this?
***** No, I haven't.
sbrebrown thanks for the replies. cheers.
you have a nice pronounciation of souverän, sounds nearly like we say it in germany ;D
Jeff hTekiller That's because he also knows some Germany :)
Hi Stephen, I am really curious about your Pelikan Souverän shootout. Thank you in advance for that.
It is sad that Pelikan will narrow their nib portfolio. However to appease at least the real enthusiasts who accept a trip to Hanover, they offer the following: Wünsch Dir Was Feder. www.pelikan.com/pulse/Pulsar/de_DE.CMS.displayCMS.197574./w%C3%BCnsch-dir-was-feder
So va RAN. Close.
Dismissing of BB and BBB is not the only change, the new B (with only one little bird on the nib) nib will no longer provide the stubby handwriting. Heart broken...
Paper?
Yes.
Hello there!!! I just love your videos!!! I have recently purchased a Pelikan Souveran M600 with an extra fine nib, and i can tell you I am already obsessed with it.. It is such a smooth writer... I could say it is almost perfect... Are there any other fountain pens out there that are such 'smooth writers' like that fountain pen or maybe even smoother? Thank you
Steven - I have a Neponset with a music nib I'd like to send you (as a gift since I don't like it very much). Let me know if you're interested.
+David Crohn If you can spare, it, I'd love to try it. Why don't you send me a quick message through my website and we can discuss this more.
No ring? You're not divorced already? I hope this was made pre-maritally ;)
Don't worry :-)
Such eye for detail.

He's waving his pen around.

Have you seen this video? A good history: "The Twenty-Six Old Characters"…: ruclips.net/video/1xUDehNvbrE/видео.html
Enjoy!
Germany is not Souverän ;)
it’s german… i’ll pass
Oh, and about the Pel shootout, a small recommendation? If you could throw in a bunch of common/prolific pens for measure, that'd be a huge help when picking a good size.
