When we started I had my wife quit because the entire income was thrown out to child care and son being sick and staying out of daycare while still paying and my wife having to take off work because he was sick and caught a bug a daycare. Do what is best for your family I worked 2 jobs and now own my own business and getting started and getting on your feet with zero help is very tough and I applaud you and your husband. If you can stick to a budget and have lower rent, you are way ahead of most Americans raising a family. With so much violence and bullying- please stay as a Mom at home! There is just so many women have children and the husbands get violent and abusive because of the financial stress. Women are pushed to get 1,2,3 jobs to help with bills!
    A stay at home Mom is one of the toughest positions women do!

We decided that he would go to nursing school, and I would do licensed daycare in our home, as I would be in the same situation as Melinda, regarding paying for outside childcare for two. I laugh to think the going rate for daycare then was $10/day! 7am to 5pm. I was licensed for 12 children, and it was rough, but, we made it. You do what you have to do. No shame there

If you need more income you could open a family daycare and take in some more children and get paid for staying home and caring for your children. I opened my home to other children and I only had four children most days but it gave me a decent income. 😊😊 it’s something worthwhile to consider.

  • @ml1049
    @ml1049 2 месяца назад +3

    Listen, as long as you two are paying your own bills, it's nobody's business as to whether or not you have a "real job". Which is a ridiculous idea to think that running a household and raising a kid isn't a real job, for those of you who don't think it is, just try it for yourself.
    Before getting a job and finding daycare for your child, every young family needs to approach the idea logically, at the kitchen table with a pencil and paper.
    Start with the amount of expected income from the job.
    Now deduct the following;
    Cost of daycare
    Gasoline
    A second car and insurance
    Will the job require nice clothes?
    Realistically, how much will you spend on the occasional fast food dinner because you're too exhausted to cook?
    All I ever wanted was to stay home with my two kids. But I worked and we didn't realize any better quality of life because of my added salary because of all the things I mentioned above. And when I look back, it's one of my biggest regrets.
    I still believe it's possible for one person to stay home with the kids, but you have to be willing to budget, cook at home, wear thrifted clothing and make things last. Buy a used car and keep that sucker maintained.
    Free yourself from others judgement and hurtful remarks. What others say or think should have no power over the way you want to live your life.
    Take it from an old lady, raise the children you bring into this world and don't hand your babies off to a virtual stranger to care for and just hope everything works out.
    Stick by your guns girl.

    Funny how people say staying at home with your kids isn't a real job but paying a babysitter (about $20 an hour in the DMV) is a real job. What they really mean is $$. To be honest, most of the women I know who work do so not out of necessity but for niceties (nicer clothes, car, restaurants, etc.). I have done both and found part time is the best of both worlds once the kids are in school. It is difficult to find part time with professional jobs but I managed to do so a few times. Pay and promotion takes a hit but I didn't care about that, more about their well being.

So you moved to the highest place to live in the country and you and your husband chose to have a child before being financially stable. I understand raising a child is work I get that but there's other jobs that pay better than minimum wage and with your income you could probably get some type of help with child care. I know you love Liam and your a good mother and a good person but in these days and times it takes 2 incomes unless you're content with barely getting by. Aren't there jobs you can do at home even if it is part time ? You like cooking heck sell cakes maybe cook some hot plates for the local elderly people. Believe it or not I'm just trying to help. I just can't see a family of 3 living in California making it on one income unless your husband is making bank.
