Enjoyed the podcast! Julie Andrews is my fave. The Sound of Music is my all time fave movie! Now that she’s the voice of Lady Whistledown on Bridgerton I get to hear her even more. 😄
Hey! First time watching your podcast. I went to Britain when I was in college and loved Bath. I still remember the acoustics singing with my choir in one of the stone cathedrals. Current British show is Great British Baking Show that I watch with my daughter. Also can’t forget Call the Midwife :) Thanks for the chance to win the earrings! I have two dear friends I can share them with.
Ah! Well I wish you good luck with the drawing!! It was probably Bath Abbey where you sang (the huge church that dominates the landscape), and if so, I've sung there, too! I sang with the Bath University Choir when I lived there and I have really fond memories of the Christmas carol service we sang there.
Hi, I loved the episode. I love the Miss Marple novels, TV shows and movies by Agatha Christie. There's also a lot of British police procedurals that I enjoy. I do have pierced ears 😊.
Miss Marple has been mentioned more than once on this channel and on my Instagram page. Christie is just...*chef's kiss*. When I read her, I frequently ask myself, "Why do I ever read anything else?" 😁
I was so sad when you said that this would be all for today.. because I could have kept watching and listening to your adventures and yarn project plans. You are making me want to go back to Ireland and squish some Aran yarn :)
Your vest looks great! It reminds me of my favorite PBS series “All creatures great and small”. . Original books by Alfred Wright, Really enjoyed this episode. How nice to be able to take your grandmother on the trip… she must be so grateful.
Hi! Great idea for the contest. I'm an American, but a long time lover of all things British. I especially love the old 'corny' British comedies, such as Yes Minister, Keeping Up Appearances, Are You Being Served...etc. I also love the way reality contest shows are done like The Great British Bake Off, and The Great British Sewing Bee. Enjoy!
Hello! What a fantastic job you did on your vest! I live in SE Ontario and there is a small village nearby called Bath :) I have family in Scotland and plan to travel there and all about Britain/England at some point in my life. I have always love all things 'proper' English lol. I loved all the pictures you shared. I am currently making Dreams of Aran by Drops, which is an all over cabled pullover. I enjoyed your video!
@@knitphen7232 It is a fun pattern. Especially fun is trying to decifer what exactly they mean because it's not a 'hold your hand' pattern like new designers put out. lol. Once you get the gist of what they are describing it's actually well written. I can recommend :)
First. Please skip over me for the earring drawing, but you mentioned my favorite entertainer, Julie Andrews! Had to chime in! Thanks for taking us along on your amazing travel adventures! Wonderful to hear about the places you and your family visited. Simon is super. And the rose. Your Fall River Vest is magnificent. Beautiful colors! Irina's shawl too! Look forward to seeing what you create with the gorgeous yarn treasures you found. Best wishes for August and your visit to Florida.
What a wonderful trip. Your vest is stellar! Great that you advocate for the Wool Industries around the globe. And Simon sporting his jaunty egg hat is so cute. During the Pandemic I knit, knit, knit while I binged the BBC series New Tricks- all 12 seasons! Saw me through. A memorable period of life that seems distant yet still vivid in my mind. A pleasure to join you on your travels today.
You know, when I was a kid I had two anthologies of all the Monty Python scripts (or maybe they were just the best ones...can't remember), but my cousin and I loved MP and we would read the scripts and play the parts ourselves. "That bird wouldn't 'voom!' if you put 4 million volts through it!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for a great tour of England and Ireland. I especially loved to hear about Ireland where I went last year for the first time. You should have gone to one of the Aran Islands - next time perhaps 😉 I love to watch historical British TV series, e.g. Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife, but I also like crime shows like (now old) Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren, who is one of my favourite actresses. I also adore Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice or in the movie Love Actually. I must admit I prefer British films and TV shows to American - sorry. If we talk about literature I have a weakness for some of the young male poets from World War I, e.g. Rupert Brooke and Siegfried Sassoon, but I also love the original Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Have a great time in Florida ❤
So many good British TV shows. My favourite atm is ‘Hinterland’ set in Wales. However Doc Martin is my all time fav. Stunning setting and great characters.
I'm not familiar with Hinterland, but Doc Martin is great. My grandmother wanted to visit Cornwall because of that show, but we didn't make it this time around. Looking forward to watching Hinterland!
Thank you for your visual yarny tour of the UK and Ireland. I love Simon and your colour-work vest. I just steeked my 1st project a month ago; so much fun! Earlier this week I saw the great British band Squeeze live. They were awesome and brought back great memories from my youth. Loving the podcast!
Squeeze!! Wow!!! That brings back memories....I remember one of their albums among my stepdad's collection from the 70s/80s. How have they held up? Still good?
Way to make a girl feel rely ancient! They have held up really well. They will be touring USA with Boy George or the English Beat later this year so ransack your stepdad's record collection, get your vintage Squeeze t-shirt and get dancing!@@knitphen7232
Hi I’m a Brit living in England loving your podcast and my favourite program is Line of Duty I just loved all the series. Thanks for the shout out for all the yarn shops you visited.
Hi Stephen, thanks for another great episode. My favourite British actress is Anne Reid, I loved her in the film The Mother and Last Tango in Halifax. I’m not sure whether you’ve seen Happy Valley which is a fabulous UK TV series, but James Norton was amazing in this. I used Donegal Tweed last year to make a Christmas stocking and it was beautiful to knit with, I purchased it online from Folklore Yarns and it was quite inexpensive for the quality. You could buy it in different weights and as much as you needed from the cone. Happy knitting and enjoy the rest of your holidays!
Great episode, beautiful knits. It was nice to see all your happy smiling relatives and friends. I love the Brit Box shows, Sister Boniface and Father Brown among others and many Acorn shows as well. Anyone who throws in the word “whilst” gets a thumbs up from me 👍Have a great time in Florida
I love the Shetland series and also Vera on britbox. If you ever get out west to Montana, I'd love to visit with you as I consider you a friend. I live in the Mission Valley near Flathead Lake. It is a beautiful area. I'm so looking forward to fall so I can wear all my woollies. Love the Yarn Story RUclips channel. I really enjoy your channel as well. I learn so much from all the knitting channels I watch.
I'll look you up if I'm ever out that way! I still haven't made it to Montana....but I think I've only made it to about 28 states so far....I had a goal of making it to all 50 by the time I turn 50....but time is running out on that... :)
Hi Stephen the actress has to be Dame Judy Dench , writer,I agree, Agatha Christie but Karen Baugh-Menuhin, and Richard Osman; TV series Shetland by Ann Cleave ..another great writer . Love your podcast as usual 🎉🎉❤
Ah, Dame Judi!! She is someone I would love to spend an hour talking with. I'm not familiar with Karen Baugh-Menuhin or Richard Osman, but I've made a note to check them out!
Hey, Edel! Guess what? YOU WON THE EARRINGS!!! Congratulations!!! Now I just need to send them to you. If you click this link - forms.gle/31yT3ECJR2mC7oBr9 - you'll go to a Google Form where you can give me your address. Once I get them in the mail to you, I'll delete your information. But please respond to this message after you do so I can be sure that it was in fact you who responded and not some random person scrolling through the comments. :)
Stephen Fry is a British National Treasure in my opinion. Actor, writer and tv presenter. Go find episodes of QI you tube if you haven’t. I was in Ireland for a wedding then went to London and Bath last month. I went to WOOL in Bath and bought a British wool cone and buttons for my current project. It was an amazing store.
Oh yes, he's great! Who can forget his portrayal of Oscar Wilde? Have you read his book on appreciating and writing poetry? It's really wonderful. "The Ode Less Traveled" it's called -- I recommend it! Wool is such a lovely store -- I'll definitely be back!
New viewer here... your episode popped up as we are vacationing in Ireland (currently near the ring of Kerry. On my way to Dublin I watched "The theory of everything" (2014), the life of Stephen Hawkings thriugh his wife tale. I really like Eddie Redmayne in it.
I can’t think of anything more ‘English’ (Yorkshire actually), than Last of the Summer Wine, and I love it because I grew up where it was filmed in Holmfirth, in the heart of Yorkshire.
Ooh, I'm not familiar with Last of the Summer Wine, but I've added it to my list of shows and movies to look up! I REALLY need to make it to Yorkshire one of these days. Because most of my connections are in the south, that tends to be where I go when I visit, but there's so much more of the UK for me to see!
Hi Stephen, I really love the versatility of Helena Bonham Carter as an actress she just keeps reinventing herself, many movies under her belt, I just enjoy her screen appeal. How about you?

Isn't she a treasure?? Have you made the trip to Salzburg to do the Sound of Music tour? It's sooooooooo beautiful!!!!

Awwww, so sorry. All good things must come to an end, they say. :) I'm ready to go back to Ireland myself! It was such a wonderful trip!
@@knitphen7232 I highly recommend the Dingle peninsula ☺️
Love hearing about your trips abroad. Also enjoy hearing Vera Stanhope stories from Ann Cleeves.
I need to give those a listen -- I love watching Shetland (also by Cleeves, I believe), but I haven't experienced it as written. I need to!
Your vest looks great! It reminds me of my favorite PBS series “All creatures great and small”. . Original books by Alfred Wright, Really enjoyed this episode. How nice to be able to take your grandmother on the trip… she must be so grateful.
A classic! I think we're both incredibly grateful for the time and experiences we were able to share.

OBVIOUSLY Mr Humphries is hands-down the dapperest dandy in all of the isles! Mayhaps Grace Bros is where my interest in fibers began!?
Loved your vest! Favorite British Author/JRR Tolkien
One of my faves as well!
