Hey man! Love that you are trying flyfishing... bass are even better on fly! Tip i have for you for best action on trout is a 5/6 weight setup. Later in the mornings dont be afraid to vary you retrieve, slow figure of eight then long pul then short etc... probably going ro get more hookups this way. Another tip is to count the depths you are targeting... start by letting the line sink for a count of 5 before you start the retrieve and continue adding till you find where the fish are. LASTLY have fun! 💪
Thanks alot man. I really do appreciate the tips. I will definitively be looking into getting a different rod and reel. Im just doing my reaserch about a affordable set up, but also something that isn't terrible ether. Let me know if you know anything that good but affordable
@@BassingwithSascha no worries! Glad if it can help! Normally (in my opinion) for starting out any well known brands combo set is good enough to last a while before you want to become more fancy (sadly the stigma with flyfishing is you need a 20k setup to be a good flyfisherman which is not the case🤣). I do recommend explorer but stealth is also good if you can still get the combos. Only thing i would consider changing is to a better line than what comes in the combo... and a floating at that since it is staple until you can get another spool with sinking or intermediate for the reel. (Some ppl might argue with me here but i guess its up to personal choice.) Taking my 8 weight for a spin on tigers at komati this weekend... thats the fish you wanna grab on a 8 weight+ 😋 hope this information helps!
Thanks for the tip man I really do appreciate it. I have been looking into getting Xplorer fly fishing gear. It is the most reasonably priced for really good quality stuff. But I am enjoying learning a new way of fishing. It's really fun
I love your vids. but man it was hard watching you drop all of those trout! I'm by no means an expert catching trout but if I watch your technique I would say you need to not let go of the line at any point in the retrieve, the trout is so quick at taking the fly and if given any chance to take line you wont set the hook properly. when pulling line in, through your index finger lock the line with you have completed the retrieve with your index finger against the rod, then lift it to bring in more line, but keep contact with the line all the time. When the trout takes it, lift the rod to set the hook. the hook is tiny although the trout mouth is much softer than bass. also don't be in a hurry to horse the trout in and let the rod and line do the work. Trout are quite strong and can last some time so the fight generally lasts longer than bass, size for size. they also don't orientate to structure so casting out into the middle of the dam is fine. Also a landing net would really help. very enjoyable video to watch.
Thanks alot. I really did battle with my index finger. The line would always pop out and it was tough getting the line back under the finger. I also really battled to fight the fish. I think I might have been putting to much pressure on the fish and thats why the fish were coming loose all the time, as I presume. I do appreciate your input and i will be taking you criticism and ill try and learn. Thanks very much for watching the video. I do really appreciate it tho👍
had a look at the website link. can you tell us what the entrance price was for the day, and the price per kg to keep the trout if you want to? and are they open during the week?
So I actually cant really remember how much the entrance fee was anymore🤔 I think it was R290 But there are two sections to the dam. The one is catch and release and the other is catch and keep. Not sure how much it is to keep the fish. They are open during the week
So I’m looking at something abit better. I have done some research h and they say the line on the reels aren’t very good. So I’ll most probably gonna get a half decent set up
So i am also rather new . I mostly fishing with a 8/9 weight because of carp. The 5/6 weight setup with intermediate line works perfect as a allrounder. Go have a look at Mias tackle and diving shop in mindrand. They have a massive selection of gear and not too expensive. People tend to go either too expensive or too cheap. For about R3500 you should get a really good setup(rod, reel, line, tipet, leader ,flies)
@@BassingwithSascha thanks man I have one more exam and then I am off to the cape in my school holidays and when can I meet you can I arrange with dad to set up a fishing trip of your choice I will ask my dad to send you an email if we can do the trip
Use a 5 weight rod and you will land more. The rod is too hard for trout. You're straightening your hook because the rod has very little give. I fish there with a 4 weight rod and 5 wt line
Howzit going man. I've actually purchased a 4 weight trout rod about a year ago now and it made all the difference with landing fish. The rod that I am using in this video was my only rod so I wanted to give it a go. Thanks for the tip
Very cool videos man! Always love finding a local channel to follow
Thanks for the support man. I do appreciate it

Great vid, have you thought of trying to fly fish from your float tube.
I have been thinking of giving it a go👍 I just need to practice my fly casting first
Hey man! Exciting that there is trout fishing in Edenvale! Where can we get more info about the rates, rules etc?
Rates Are:
R100 catch and keep R80 per fish.
R280 catch and release.
R340 catch and release including float tube rental.
Well done and again a awesome vid.
Cant you bass there anymore?
Thanks for the view man. No you are only aloud to fish fly
@@BassingwithSascha that is not nice at all.
So were do you recommend going that is around here?
Dowerglen is another really good spot in the edenvale area which is pretty good

Hi can u fish with normal paddle tails for trout on spinning set ups or only fly
Um you can catch fish on normal conventional gear, But the edenvale quarry does not allow normal gear. only fly gear
Makes me feel better about my fly fishing fails 🤣👊
Bru fly fishing is really difficult. I really don't know how to fight the fish but also the hook set is awkward
@@BassingwithSascha we will learn 😂
Hi Sacha nice again buddy . What are the costs fishing there ?
R100 catch and keep R80 per fish.
R280 catch and release.
R340 catch and release including float tube rental.
Thanks for clearing that up👍
Hi man, what is the best rod for all types of crankbaits?
I would suggest a 7,5 or anything inbetween 7,5 and 8. It does have to be a medium moderate action fishing rod.
Thanks man.
Love your vids bro, just try being a bit more gentle with the trout, let the fish take line when it needs to, don’t try and horse in the fish 💪🏽💪🏽
Hi Man, Thanks for the tip. Is this why the fish were coming loose all the time?
Hey bud remember to lift youre flies slowly out of the water , its called fishing the hang
And saw youre fishing the rolly polly retrieve very good retrieve if they want it fast
O ok so how long to fish the hang for before casting again?
Yeah the rolly polly was working that day.
Hi what's a very cheap fly set up thanks
Hi there. I have no idea, i am very new to the sport aswell.
Take a lot has cheap starter kits including rod, line and real sub 2k.
6wt is a great starting size

Great video keep it up
So I think I will be doing that summer time. 👍 It's tough enough as it is to catch bass on normal gear. HAHA

Hey what is the entrance fee

No
only trout

A 9 weight is even over kill for bass its more of a salt water rod
So my nine weight fly rod was given to me about 15 years ago. This is all I have at the moment, but i am looking at getting a new set up.
@@BassingwithSascha get a explorer precast combo it comes with two reels and a rod case
